If you could afford it would you swap your holiday for this reason?

It’s forecast to rain for at least half of my week’s holiday from 22nd March.
have found an equally priced holiday somewhere else where forecast is much better.

Sunbathing, pool, beach holiday.

would you swap or chance it? I wouldn’t get any money back for cancelling at this late stage so basically paying again.

I did this exact thing a couple of years ago (you might even be able to find the thread!) I only lost the cost of the flights as I hadn’t yet booked accommodation, but it was 100% worth it. I switched Malta for Seville. When I was at the rooftop pool in 30C instead of enduring 17C cloudy weather, I soon forgot about the lost $$$.

The most important thing is that you enjoy your holiday, so if you can afford to switch, you definitely should.

Squirrelandhedgehogs · 14/03/2026 21:06

I would chance it. When we went to Mauritius BBC predicted rain all day every day. In the end there was 30 mins of rain all week, rest was c26C and mainly sunny.

Iamblossom · 14/03/2026 21:07

Argh .... 2 completely conflicting views ...

I would dig as deep and broad as you can into any weather forecast. Sometimes they headline with rain, when in fact it's only going to rain for an hour, after dark, and just a light shower.

Svet19 · 14/03/2026 21:29

Depending where you're going. If it's Europe, I would swap (I went to Greece last year in april and I was freezing by the pool in the rain). If you go to Carribean/Mauritius / any hot destinations then you'll be happy to "cool down" a bit in the rain. I hope you'll have a lovely time

APatternGrammar · 14/03/2026 21:32

I wouldn’t be confident enough of the forecast that far out to switch now. I‘d probably consider at least a plan b (e.g. a spa for a day or two) if there’s anything like that near where you are going.

Iamblossom · 14/03/2026 21:32

Thankyou that's so kind

Swap would be Agadir to Hurghada

I always think weather reports are only accurate up to about 7 days away, so you are in that period now to know the forecast. If poor weather is going to frustrate you and spoil your enjoyment, then I think you should change.

Lovelynames123 · 14/03/2026 21:36

I would swap. We once went to Spain in May and it rained for 8 out of 11 days. I was looking to fly somewhere else but the whole of southern Europe was a wall of rain.

As it was, I booked a holiday for 6 weeks later to Majorca, whilst we were still in Spain, thinking how lucky we were to be able to do that whilst a lot of people's one holiday of the year was spoilt

Iamblossom · 15/03/2026 13:02

DH is pointing out that flying to a war zone isn't the greatest idea. Sigh

mummybearSW19 · 15/03/2026 13:06

Are weather reports for either location, considered accurate this far out?

if not then I might wait a little longer before I swapped.
also check. Does the forecast mean rain all day for those days? Or just 30mins of torrential rain at 5am?

and yes. I would move location for better weather, rather than put up with it. Unless there are sufficient other things to do - spa, diving, reading, watching films…….

BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation · 15/03/2026 18:13

If you could get a refund or partial refund, I'd swap. If you have to pay for another holiday, I'd chance it and have a second holiday another time.

ForAmusedHazelQuoter · 15/03/2026 20:26

I’d go and get a plan of lots of excursions and activities.

Swap would be Agadir to Hurghada

Is it safe there at the moment with how close it is to Israel?

Fayelajane · 15/03/2026 20:32

I'd go with your DH on this one...

EasterlyDirection · 15/03/2026 20:33

I think your DH has a point.

BollyMolly · 15/03/2026 20:35

Egypt isn’t a war zone and even if it rains, it’s unlikely to rain enough to spoil your holiday.

For that swap no it's pretty close to conflict and given the trouble people are having getting home 2 weeks later I wouldn't risk it.

damelza · 15/03/2026 20:39

Personally I'd stick with Agadir. Things can change a lot in a week. I wouldn't fancy going to Egypt at all, and that's got nothing to do with the current conflict. I just don't like it there. Being escorted by armed military from Luxor to the coast was something I will never forget. Terrified that we would be ambushed. And that was years ago now.

Squirrelandhedgehogs · 15/03/2026 20:50

I am with your DH. Never found weather forecasts that accurate re rain until very close and it's rare to be all day. I would have a look for indoor back up activities like indoor pool, spa, museums or car hire if that's viable there so can see scenery especially if just short bursts of rain. I tend to carry on and just adjust clothing or go in sea/pool in the rain, wet anyway unless too cold / too heavy rain. If it was a rubbish holiday at end would take another break later.

jamaisjedors · 15/03/2026 20:58

On BBC weather the end of that week is looking good in Agadir

decorationday · 15/03/2026 22:56

Hurghada is fine. Egypt isn't involved in the current conflict. It's not difficult to look at the FCDO advice.

I wouldn't swap because of a weather forecast. They're not certain and they'll have changed by the time the date arrives.

Iamblossom · 16/03/2026 08:33

Very helpful comments the is all. As pps have said, weather forecast is actually cheering up slightly for Agadir. I don't particularly want to pay again and we wouldn't get any money back as it's now so close to departure date. Fingers crossed it will all work out. I think Egypt is safe at the moment but it seems silly to take any risk just for a holiday

OP posts:
TikTokker · 16/03/2026 08:41

Yes for the weather but I’d never go to Egypt again in peaceful times let along now so not very helpful. Is anywhere else forecasting sunshine that you can look at? I didn’t like Agadir much either 😬

BBC Weather is horribly unreliable.
