If you could afford it would you swap your holiday for this reason?

It’s forecast to rain for at least half of my week’s holiday from 22nd March.
have found an equally priced holiday somewhere else where forecast is much better.

Sunbathing, pool, beach holiday.

would you swap or chance it? I wouldn’t get any money back for cancelling at this late stage so basically paying again.

I'm in a similar situation where there's a storm heading to the canaries this Wednesday and looks to be hanging around for 5/7 days we are there. We don't have a package holiday so can't swap and so would lose everything we have paid but if we COULD swap I definitely would. I can get rain and storms here for free!

amargaritaplease · 16/03/2026 08:46

we had very rainy forecast for Agadir, eventually it was only one day of rain and the rest sunshine, this was a couple of weeks ago

Thankyou that's so kind

Swap would be Agadir to Hurghada

In that case, I would swap. I've always found Egyptian weather to be quite stable once you get past February

Honeypizza · 16/03/2026 09:31

I find Accuweather has been fairly accurate when travelling abroad, and that says rain on Sunday and then sunny for the rest of the week.

Iamblossom · 16/03/2026 09:37

@Plump82 yes you seem to be facing the same weather, I do look at canaries etc
Does seem to be improving in Agadir for next week so am keeping optimistic

I had thought about a different area of Gran Canaria if we hadn't paid for our accommodation but seems like the weather is hitting all over. I'm currently reading how to play Uno and will be trying to convince my husband it's a good way to pass the time 😂

Iamblossom · 16/03/2026 14:52

Uno is great. And if you are that way inclined there will be loads of other people sitting around in the rain so you can play with them too! Or drink wine.

I went to agadir in January with no expectations of sun. The forecast was mixed but had 4 days of what I would class as nice English summers day warmth
However Egypt is not in a war zone either

Plump82 · 16/03/2026 16:43

There will definitely be much wine drinking!! We have already decided we're starting each day with a bloody Mary!

samarrange · 16/03/2026 17:22

When you say "Forecast to rain", what do you mean? Do you have a detailed forecast saying there will be heavy rain clouds all day every day, or are you looking at a weather app with an icon of a cloud and a 55% chance of rain - which means a 45% chance that there will not be a single drop all day?

I ask because the apps tend to show you one icon for the worst thing that's forecast that day. Plus you've a week to go, and the margin of error around forecasts in the Atlantic that far out at this stage in March is huge.

Also, if you do change, I would be concerned that DH would be looking at the actual weather in Agadir, and if it's anything less than flooding in the streets he will be harrumphing about the waste of money when it would all have been fine. But you know him better than we do.😉

Iamblossom · 17/03/2026 09:16

@samarrange yep agree, can't rain all day right?
Plus no harrumphing from DH, I pay for holidays. But yes, I would feel a bit aggrieved if it's nothing short of pouring 😂

Just thought I'd update this as I had the same concerns as you. Despite the amber weather warning I'm currently sitting on my balcony absolutely roasting! It was very windy last night but absolutely no wind today. Rained for about an hour mid day. Won't lie, there are huge clouds but when the sun breaks through, its very hot Tomorrow is looking great as well. You might be lucky and the weather won't be as bad as forecast.

Iamblossom · 22/03/2026 07:25

@Plump82 and remind me where you are?

TheCurious0range · 22/03/2026 07:30

Have a look at AccuWeather, seems more reliable.
Also if you're willing to pay for two holidays, go on this one take your chances and if it's terrible weather use some of your rained in time to book another!

chubley · 22/03/2026 09:57

Also try local forecasts, eg when going to Italy I look at ilmeteo, which can be pessimistic ahead of time , then unless a massive area of rain is coming the forecast often improves nearer the day.

Plump82 · 22/03/2026 23:11

@Iamblossom Gran Canaria

Gertau · 22/03/2026 23:36

No I wouldn't consider swapping if the money was already spent, it would annoy me too much to think of the wasted money. It wouldn't bother me too much to have lots of rain anyway. We don't tend to do beach/lounging holidays and tend to do lots of sightseeing, excursions etc. When we visit museums etc it makes no difference what the weather is like so a bit of rain wouldn't spoil our holiday.

Twodogsisbetterthanone · 22/03/2026 23:54

Agadir in the spring is known for a sea mist that lingers most of the day. It’s not very sunny I’m afraid!
Egypt is nowhere near the conflict.
