Haven with no car

I would love to take my children away to haven but i don’t drive so a lot of them will not be accessible. Has anyone been before by train, is there one that is easy to get to by public transport? Ideally not taxis either but happy to use a bus if needed after the train or walking. Thanks

Seton sands near Edinburgh has a bus stop outside that runs into Edinburgh city centre. But it's quite a long ride and there's not much else near the site.
Berwick is very close to Berwick upon Tweed town centre at the station.
There's a parkdean site at Whitley Bay which has a bus stop outside for connections into Newcastle, the metro network and the beach is just down the road.

Oh I should add im in London btw if that makes any difference but open to travelling

What about Devon Cliffs which I think is in Exmouth. That should be pretty accessible.

NutButterOnToast · 09/03/2026 16:35

In the summer the 95 open top bus goes from Exmouth rail station, the town and the seafront to Sandy Bay/Devon Cliffs

Pepperedpickles · 09/03/2026 16:37

The Seashore one at Great Yarmouth is about 15
mins away from the train station by taxi.

SerpentQueen · 09/03/2026 16:44

Both Havens on the North Yorks coast are served by bus (Blue Dolphin and Primrose Valley) but it would be a long train journey from London

MintTwirl · 09/03/2026 16:51

I was going to suggest primrose valley, pretty easy by public transport(although.a long journey from London).
My tip would be to pick one that isn’t a really long journey because while it will be exciting on the way there, the way back will feel like a slog! So maybe look on the south coast.

CeeJay81 · 09/03/2026 16:51

We go to our local one(Hafan y Mor) by train but it'd be over 9 hours! from London by train.

ConflictofInterest · 09/03/2026 16:55

We don't drive and have had a lot of holidays at Haven over the years they tend to be really well connected by train and bus. Every Haven we've stayed at has had its own bus stop inside the park. We've never had any difficulties getting there by bus from the train but you could always just pick one fairly near a train station and get a taxi there.

Coffeeishot · 09/03/2026 16:55

I have been to a few Havens over the years and everyone has a service bus going in and out ,so will get you into town centres they are easy to get to even though we have the car we use the bus to go into towns our favourite is Weymouth.

MakingPlans2025 · 09/03/2026 16:57

From London I would suggest Weymouth or I think there is one in Bognor (and Bognor is nowhere near as bad as people think and easy to get to from London Bridge)

PevenseygirlQQ · 09/03/2026 16:58

I know there is a bus stop outside Camber Sands Parkdean, not sure if its a bus that goes to a train station, maybe have a look as its not to far from London

Creepingto40 · 09/03/2026 19:42

Devon sands -lovely resort

Paddington to Exeter
Exeter to Exmouth
Then open top bus outside train station up to Devon sands.

AliasGrape · 09/03/2026 19:45

Another vote for Weymouth, we like the Littlesea site and it has a bus from the town centre which is also close to the train station. There are a couple of Haven sites in/ around Weymouth though so look at them all and see which you prefer, I assume they’ll all have the bus option.

Jack1975 · 09/03/2026 19:47

Berwick Haven is walking distance from train station and the town centre

myusernamewastakenbyme · 09/03/2026 19:48

I would suggest Norfolk from London...you can get on at Kings Cross or Liverpool St...go through to Norwich and then onto Great Yarmouth....dead easy.

Chersfrozenface · 09/03/2026 19:56

I always fancied Rockley Park, Poole, but never got there. You can get a train from Waterloo to Hamworthy and it's supposedly a 10 minute taxi ride to the park.

MyPolitePeachSloth · 09/03/2026 20:05

Combe Haven in Hastings is very easily accessible by train and bus, and lots to do around the area. I’ve never been but my first ever job was there and I used to get the bus everyday! That may have been over 20 years ago! But the same but still runs!

Postbox123 · 09/03/2026 20:11

Cleethorpes has a railway station on the beach . King's Cross -Doncaster . Doncaster to Cleethorpes , then the bus along the prom . About 3.5/4 hours .

ForBrickSheep · 09/03/2026 20:15

All 3 Havens in Weymouth which are Littlesea, Seaview, and Weymouth Bay (not the main beach but on outskirts of the town) are on the bus routes to and from town. Although Littlesea has a dedicated no. 12 bus that goes to the park and station/seafront. All are also about 10 minutes in a taxi from train station to site :). Taxis are fairly priced in the Weymouth too

I used to work at Littlesea and know the Weymouth sites well :).

CMOTDibbler · 09/03/2026 20:20

Littlesea Haven in Weymouth would be perfect - you get the train from Waterloo to Weymouth, then theres a bus direct to the site. The bus goes to the beach and is actually easier than having a car there

andanotherproblem · 09/03/2026 20:21

Comb haven in Hastings is easily accessible by train & bus and very easy to navigate around once there

Forgot to add I live local to Hastings so can help with navigating buses/trains if you need help

Beancounter1973 · 09/03/2026 21:12

I would vote for cleethorpes if public transport accessibility is the main concern - the train station is right on the beach, and there are many ways to get to the park itself, including a land train!! You would change at Doncaster - be less than fours hours travelling in total I think.

00deed1988 · 09/03/2026 22:01

I've done the Coombe Haven in Hastings from London without a car with kids and was easy enough. Travelling there and navigated days with no problems.
