Big wedding anniversary family holiday. Need a villa, but I don't want to cook?

To taking adult children and their partners away for a major wedding anniversary
Fancy somewhere in the Mediterranean like Majorca or Minorca. Really like the idea of a villa with everyone of rooms I cannot stand the thought of having to think about lunch or wipe surfaces.
Wouldn't be averse to a hotel set up or all inclusive but school holidays and it's all gonna be dreadful
Anyone got any ideas of a set up where we can have a bit of food catered for us without having to worry about who's vegetarian and so?

“Why is delegating shopping and cooking to the rest of the adult party not an option you want to consider?”

Why is it her job to manage this?

How about somewhere like this:

Lots of difference sized suites to accommodate everyone, luxurious, kitchen facilities if needed but fantastic restaurant on site too. Breakfast provided so no faffing about first thing.

I would cruise - it works really well for big family groups with you all having your own space (cabin) but easy to get back together. Book a great cabin for yourself and outsides / insides for the family to save ££!

Rightly or wrongly I agree if I did this with my family, it would be back to family mode e.g. 'what's for dinner mum?' or 'what snacks did you buy?'.

How is delegating it managing it? "Right, you guys are sorting all the food on this holiday ok". Done.

To be honest, for a wedding anniversary I would expect the holiday to be just for 2 people - OP and spouse. It's your anniversary - why do you want other folk gatecrashing? Make it for 2, and then you can do whatever you like!

I don't see how you can "not think about food" if you have so many picky people and you won't delegate. Sounds like with a hotel you'd still be worrying about whether they are getting what they want and if you have a chef you'll be explaining to them all these rules.

Why is delegating shopping and cooking to the rest of the adult party not an option you want to consider?

This. TBH you sound a bit martyrish. They're all adults or with their parents, they can fend for themselves without your input.

What's stopping you laying on a sunlounger and letting them sort things or accommodate their own fussiness?

What about a villa with a housekeeper? So presumably they'll clean and prepare meals with various components after a discussion about preferences and people can choose which bits they want to eat?

sashh · 29/10/2025 09:58

Hire a chef? Or a local who can cook.

Florencesndzebedee · 29/10/2025 10:51

Basically it’s not going to be a cheap holiday if you’re not self catering.

minishiteboard · 29/10/2025 12:03

also don't want other peoples

Because we love our kids and enjoy their company.

can't think of anything more fun. They're amazing. And the WAGS

@Screamingabdabzyes. I think obviously they'd cook and shop! They're adults. It's not as easy as being at home though , Greek island mini mart etc.

We normally rent a villa, but try to find somewhere which is close enough to a resort town that it’s easy to get there and back by taxi without it costing a fortune. We normally hire a car and drive in the day but always a taxi in the evening. We buy in drinks, breakfasts and easy snacks. Cost of food split between adults and all adults deal with food prep and tidying. Dishwasher is a must. Some areas of Spain have uber and also have uber eats where you can order a takeaway if you fancy.

Tell the adult children you've done your shift and they are in charge of the kitchen for this trip.

They’re on holiday too. No chance I’d be planning and cooking meals for parents, siblings and partners on a family holiday, just because it’s for my parents anniversary.

We usually eat out but we have hired a chef before, as no one wants to be lumbered with cooking and cleaning up.

Poonu · 29/10/2025 12:32

In Morocco chefs came with our villa

YaWeeFurryBastard · 29/10/2025 12:40

Sorry but from experience, group villa holidays have been crap. It’s a nice idea having everyone together in one space but in reality people get on top of each other, have different mess tolerances and there’s nowhere to properly escape, especially if you’re one of the WAGS.

Even with daily housekeeping and a chef for dinner there’s going to be an element of grunt work and sourcing supplies which isn’t a holiday to me, especially if you have picky eaters. I think you’re far better in a luxury all inclusive where all dietary requirements are easily catered for and you can have delicious meals laid on all the time with no clearing up or negotiating about the bill. No worrying about who drinks what or running out then either. Just free to enjoy yourself spending quality time with loved ones.

Cruise is also a great option and we’ve had some brilliant family cruises, I can see you’re very dismissive of that but have you ever been on one?

Honestly, I’ve found group villa holidays crap (despite loving the groups I went with) and even when someone has kindly paid for it, I’d still rather do something else with my annual leave.

minishiteboard · 29/10/2025 12:52

Thanks @YaWeeFurryBastard I wonder if you're right.

No, definitely don't want a cruise no I haven't been on one and you'd have to pay me to go on one.
