Bluestone in February

Candleflower12 · 11/09/2025 06:57

Can’t decide between 4 nights or 7 nights at bluestone in February. We would like to take a trip out to the nearest beaches/towns etc even if it was a bit chilly. What would you recommend?

I think 7 nights there would be a bit much. We did 3. I couldn’t imagine holding out another 4.

Yesitwill · 11/09/2025 07:01

The weather will likely be shite
go with 4

lol no not bad but certainly wouldn’t be somewhere I’d want to be for 7 days. It’s pretty bleak there in the winter
4 days is plenty

Ineedanewsofa · 11/09/2025 08:52

4 is enough, particularly with older kids. Bluestone is awesome in good weather but it’s Wales in Feb so you probably won’t get that and slogging up and down the hills in the pissing rain to get to and from things is a bit soul crushing

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 11/09/2025 09:13

Four nights will be plenty. I went during the summer a few years ago and thought it was crap. I don’t understand the fuss at all.

SoManyDandelions · 11/09/2025 09:41

Agree that 4 is enough! We didn't really enjoy it.

We’ve been twice - once in April & once in June. We did 3 nights both times.
We like it & the kids enjoy it (currently 11 & 7). If you have young kids it’s great - lots to do that’s free. Older kids or teens maybe not so much.
The pool is good, but a lot smaller than Centre Parcs & is in need of renovation. The paid for activities are great for younger kids but as you can imagine a bit pricey.
Unfortunately the best restaurant on site (Olde Smokey’s) is currently closed.
Places like Tenby are close by, but as others have said they may not be the nicest to visit in the depths of February! Tenby was stunning in June in the sunshine.
So a lot depends on the ages of any kids you’re taking, & what you plan to do whilst there.

SoManyDandelions · 11/09/2025 12:20

It was pre-covid so things might have changed. The weather wasn't great so people were understandably all using the pool - the changing rooms were filthy - hair and used nappies everywhere. The pool was absolutely packed and also quite dirty. DC enjoyed the rapids though!

Candleflower12 · 11/09/2025 12:30

Ooo yes sorry it would’ve been useful to put the kids ages! They’ll be one and two at the time, so very young!

I took my two toddlers there quite a few years ago in winter. We hated every minute of it. Cold, nothing to do. Couldn't wait to come home.

No Op, just no.

We did 3 or 4 nights over NY once that was definitely enough, hardly anything in Tenby was open, it was freezing and wet outdoors and there's only so much time you can spend in the pool or doing over-priced activities. We did a week at May half term once which was much better as everything locally was open, beaches warm etc.

BuddyGiveOver · 11/09/2025 14:45

We have been twice. Once in March with a two year old and again this summer with a seven year old and a ten year old. I definitely preferred it this more recent time as the kids were older and the weather was lovely. There are some steep hills and a lot of walking. I honestly don't think it's worth it with very small kids, but if you do go, definitely get a golf buggy to drive around in as walking up the hills with a toddler and pushchair sounds awful.

You also run out of groceries if you stay seven days and someone then needs to carry them back to the lodge unless you have a buggy. The shop on site is horrible. The food is like Londis quality, so you can't really buy all your meals there

MinnieMountain · 11/09/2025 15:29

I wouldn’t go on holiday in Pembrokeshire in February (I grew up there).

Take them to Butlin’s. I think they have special toddler breaks.

I’ve heard the accommodation gets really grotty because of the adult weekends 😩😩😩😩

Dd is much older now but we've been going to Butlins and Bluestone for years.

Bluestone is great. The winter light trail is pretty, there's the pool, serendome and hive to keep you busy for a few days but would agree with the recommendation of getting a golf buggy as it's spread out and hilly. The Serendome is like a huge undercover play park with bars and takeaways. It's pretty fun. The activities were pretty good prices when dd was little and they had 3 hour crèche type ones so you could drop and head to the spa.

Butlins just for tots are brilliant value. It's fun and jam packed with entertainment and crafts. The indoor rides were a hit and the shows were great. Get the nicer accommodation and you'll be fine. Everyone has under 5s and there's always someone crying! Once you're in the entertainment tent you're close to everything.

They are very different vibes. Bluestone is much more outdoorsy, self paced and relaxed, Butlins is busy, fun and you can fill every minute with something different. It depends what you're looking for.

JudithDunbar · 11/09/2025 22:37

We've been in march for the past two years and liked it, only for 4 nights though. I especially appreciated that the calibre of people there was normal/decent as the last few times we went to CP we realised it has become some kind of mecca for chavs, which has entirely changed the while experience. Its a real shame as when we first started going in the early 00s it was so wholesome and refreshing.

pinkdelight · 11/09/2025 23:31

The weather was horrendous when we went at Easter, torrential rain most days. And some kid had pooed in the soft play. That aside it was okay but 4 days would be plenty even with day trips.

this is really helpful thank you!! We wanted it to be a bit chill because it will be my sons birthday when we are there as well so something to entertain him but a bit more chill as well

I'd go for Bluestone I think. Hire a buggy so when you need to leave something fun then you can say 'let's go for a buggy ride' rather than having to drag them out. Don't forget to bring your driving licence to show the hire place.
The serendome has sandpits and water so bring buckets and spades and recreate the beach experience undercover.
I like a village cottage so I'm close to the shop and main restaurant. Nice to grab a coffee in the morning too and you're right by the main playground

@Candleflower12 for context when we went to bluestone there were first towels left on the bed and a TWO pairs of dirty nickers stuffed down the sofa!!

In contrast when I’ve been to butlins (three times now) the accommodation has been spotless
