If you had an amazing holiday this year…

…please share what you did, wherever you went. Having spoken to friends and colleagues, no one seems to have had their best time this year (although most of us have had the ‘pleasure’ of taking grumpy teens bringing down the mood!). Not to everyone’s tastes, but our best family holiday so far has been to Florida, visiting Universal Studios and Disney - it was such good fun.

We Went Greek island hopping with DD11 for 3 weeks and had an amazing time. Also I was lucky to also be able to take DD to Cornwall for a week, we had an equally lovely time…. Although lovely sunny weather helped!

We actually stayed at home and did local days out as if we were on holiday. I bought new soft towels, lovely luxury toiletries, wore our holiday clothes, had a cleaner for the week! We all slept so well, we rested and saved ££££! The weather massively helped.

I love this!!

The Lake District in our caravan. We were at a site right on the edge of the lake. We had lovely weather and spent our week walking, swimming and paddleboarding.

I took my 15 year old, 3 year old and dog to a Haven! We had the best time!!

We initially had a trip planned to Hawaii Oahu but we ended up postponing to next year and did a road trip across Lake Michigan from Chicago going through 4 states: Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin and we had a great time. Michigan has got lots of natural beauty and outdoor activities.

Stopped at small quaint beautiful towns along the way and lots of fun activities for my active 11 year old such as sand boarding, alpine rides, river tubing along the Platter River ending in Lake Michigan, playing on sand dunes at Silver Lake Dunes and Sleeping Bear Dunes etc.

Learned a lot of fascinating facts including of a small town called Singapore Michigan which was a thriving lumber town that got swallowed up the the dunes and is still under the sand today: https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/2025/07/17/singapore-michigan-ghost-town-logging-kalamazoo-river/85204433007/

The dunes are so steep that it's a serious hike getting back up and many people end up needing to be rescued so they installed signs sanding people of $3k find if you need to be rescued lol, needless to say we didn't try to go down.

We drove all the up to an historic island called Mackinac Island on the upper northern end of Michigan where no cars are allowed so you have to move about by walking, cycling or horse carriages. Fun fact even Amazon deliver using horses which was cool.

Then we drove back the other way stopping in Green Bay Wisconsin and then back to Chicago.

Fun fact: Lake Michigan is so big that it is 37 times larger than Greater London, we needed up driving over 1100 miles around the Lake.

Back to planning Hawaii trip for next year.

Best holiday with teens was without doubt Japan.

Other good holidays with teens - Budapest, Iceland, NYC

Not been yet, Portugal via France and Spain, back via bay of Biscay done in before and it’s a brilliant trip

March - had a big family at Centreparcs, it was fun, but really expensive for what it was.

May - Florida, stayed on site, had the best time with my DH and 18yr DS. Great balance of being disney hectic and relaxing.

July - LA, Vegas, San Deigo and Arizona. Really special holiday as it was only 4weeks after my sudden cardiac arrest. So much to do as a family and my son didnt wanna come home.

August - little town outside of barcelona where the Spanish family live. Me, DH, 2 DS and 1 GF. MIL, SIL and BIL. For the most part is was sooo good and just laying on the beach, eating drinking was good, but familiy dynamics was hard sometimes. And strangely my English family couldnt understand or accept that im still in recovery and couldnt do big lunches with booze or late nights.

Still have Portugal and DisneyParis to do. I was 50 this year so its a big year.

I'm so glad to hear that you were still able to have a good time with your family after the cardiac arrest. I hope you continue to get better and stronger.

Watching. We were lucky to have several holidays and different family members loved different ones. Unfortunately none that was perfect for all of us but perhaps that’s unlikely given the ages and personalities.

Basic issue is our tweens would pick anything where they are in a group with other tweens and with a buzz, whereas DH and I like pretty, undiscovered places and peace and quiet… any suggestions welcome 🤪

Expedition cruise to Svalbard to see polar bears, walruses and hundreds of glaciers.

Id love to do this!

2 teens and a 9 year old.

We did 10 days in Agadir, Morocco this summer and all have loved it. A manageable 30 degrees.

At Easter we went to Majorca for 5 days and really enjoyed that too. Good hotel and day trip to Palma where we saw loads. But the weather….

Exhaustedtiredneedabreak · 30/08/2025 17:01

Camping and surfing in north Devon. Brilliant.

Porosandathens · 30/08/2025 17:02

We had a wonderful trip with two teenagers girls to Skiathos and Skopelos. They love Greece: good food, beach, relaxation. We were all happy and relaxed. Have you consider what they like and let them
sleep a bit in the morning and not drag them to lots of history sites and they are happy

Itchyfeetkeepmemoving · 30/08/2025 17:04

We went to Svalbard on an expedition cruise and sailed into the pack ice to find polar bears. Circumnavigation of the islands. Awesome

I’m glad you had a good holiday. But kindly I think boys are a bit different than girls. At least mine! 🤣

That’s what we did! Amazing trip with Oceanwide. Loved it.

LhudeSingCuccu · 30/08/2025 17:09

We went to Barbados in Feb (just us) and Florida in July (with young adult offspring and their partners - nowhere near Disney) and we’re about to go to Northumberland (just us and dogs).

All very different holidays.

Finnba · 30/08/2025 17:11

Road trip through Colorado, South Dakota and Wyoming visiting national parks. So Badlands, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Rocky Mountains. We had three young adults with us and we had an amazing time. Lots of geysers, wildlife and stunning scenery.

Went to Crete, AI, with DS, DIL and three DGC under eight. Had an absolutely fabulous time and are looking to book again for next year.

Where did you stay please?

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 30/08/2025 17:16

US road trip. 2.5 weeks driving around a couple of states, 9yr old had a great time, slightly less so on the longer hikes but the wildlife made it worth it.
Also Turkey in May was brilliant for a different reason, very relaxing.

Probably, our teens love Greece so that helps but every child/person is different, like different things.
