I took my 7 week old to a photography shop and they did his photo.
Propped him up on lots of cushions with a white sheet over.

£4 for 4 photos.

OliviaMumsnet · 02/06/2008 11:10

NB You also need the BACK of the photo to be blank (i.e. no "Kodak photographic paper" logos)

JoshandJamie · 02/06/2008 11:12

Yes you can use Paspic for adult pics too. And they do the cropping. All you have to do is take a pic - the site tells you how - and then you upload it, they crop it and make sure it meets the passport office guidelines, and then they post them to you.

not sure if this has been asked but my baby is due in beg of july i want to go back to states end of august can it be done this quickly?
to get babys passport i mean
i cant remember how old they have to be to fly long haul

BexieID · 02/06/2008 11:22

I think i'll give passpic a try. I used to work in a photolab and the amount of customers who asked us to do passport photos for them was unbelieveable. No, we can't do them for you, although some people actually wanted them for buss/college passes.

I've just had an e-mail from the passport office and you just fill out the appropriate sections on the actual form for an expired passport. Now I just need to find the form and get my photo done, lol.

BexieID · 02/06/2008 11:23

I don't think babies can fly until they are 6 weeks old, unless it's very special circumstances.

Nbg · 02/06/2008 11:24

Disney you'll probably be better doing a fast track passport.
So you'll have to go to one of the offices but it gtees you'll get the passport back within a week.

It is more expensive though.

We had to do this last year for both my dd and ds1 as we won a holiday off MN

I got the passport back in 2 days.

disneystar · 02/06/2008 11:26

ok thanks for that

Dolorescat · 02/06/2008 12:40

Disney, We took ds to Tunisia when he was 3 months. We applied for his passport a few weeks after he was born and it came back very quickly. We took him to a chemist to get his photo done. I sat wth him, with a white sheet on my lap. A box of tampax was waved above the camera and we got a good shot of his face. (How embarrassing ... bloody tampax was the only thng that attracted his attenton!)
He was great on the flight. There were quite a few babs on the flight. (However don't know about long haul flghts.)

biscuitsmustbedunkedintea · 02/06/2008 23:55

Paspic was the place we used, and got told by the PO that the photo wouldn't have been accepted as a Passport Photo, as her eyes weren't within guidelines on the photo

So I guess it's not 100%

sarahmsqt · 03/06/2008 01:26

Hi, just had my 4 months old daughter's pic taken in local photo shop, £4, they cropped them and put them in a nice pouch, too! They simply lay her on a changing mat covered with a white towel on the floor and pulled silly faces

If you really want to use a photo booth, dress baby in a loose jumper, then you can squat down on the floor and hold her up to the right height whilst hiding your hands under the jumper (and the rest of you out of sight)

DirtySexyMummy · 03/06/2008 01:34

I will second Jessops - why anyone would even attempt a booth I don't know.

Saying that, my DS was 6 days old when we had his done. And they insisted he had his eyes open. We were in Jessops for a long time..

And, it still lasts til he is 5.
He is 3 now, and as I am sure you can imagine, does not look all that much like the photo

DirtySexyMummy · 03/06/2008 01:39

Oh - and babies can fly at any time. You are advised to wait until they are 6 weeks or more, but the airlines don't have rules about it.

thomasina1 · 03/06/2008 09:34

This is great, very useful as we'll e travelling to France with our 3 month old (not yet born!) and I hadn't even thought about passports! Could someone give me an idea of how long the whole process takes from start to finish? Thanks.

J2O · 03/06/2008 11:13

oh no, i've just used that passipic's, i hope that its ok as they said it would need manually checking.

OP posts:
BexieID · 03/06/2008 12:14

paspic does say it will refund you if they are not ok.

JoshandJamie · 03/06/2008 12:54

Paspic use two types of checks: machines and people to manually check. They guarantee that they will be accepted or will give you your money back. They'll be fine.

popmum · 03/06/2008 13:13

j20 if you applied on line and they sent you back the completed form you can't get it checked at the post office, you just send the whole lot to the passport office (send recorded) and they'll check it there. (I just did one this week)

sarahmsqt · 03/06/2008 13:54

Just came back from Post Office, they refused the application because some writing went outside the little white boxes (not signature, that was ok) AAAAARGGGGHHHH!!!!!!

J2O · 03/06/2008 14:06

ok thank you not in any rush for it anyway, so if anythings wrong, i'll have plenty of time to sort it out

spongecake · 04/06/2008 12:52

hi, not sure how old your baby is, but if he/she can't sit alone, then snappy snaps will take digital pic with baby lying down and garuntee (sp) that it will be ok for the passport. its about £5-6 i think.

J2O · 04/06/2008 14:49

the passpic photos arrived today, they don't seem to be great quality, but i suppose that must be my camera??

will send them and see what happens
