Hi we are going to chester at the end of June and we will be meeting a few family members there will be 2 toddlers (2+3) and a 6 year old

we are on quite a tight budget so I was wondering if there is anything you can think of that we can do for very little or no money??

are there any cheap playcentres / indoor pay places.

thanks for all your help.

Walking round the city walls is great fun and free. Might be awkward with a pushchair though.

Zoo is good but very £££££.

Boat trips on the Dee.

No idea about soft play places. Hopefully someone else will know.

Lovely city.

There is a soft play area near to the northgate arena swimming baths. It is called Funky Monkeys (I think!) I think it is about £3 per child and it is very good. Website here

Wlking by the river is free and easily accessible with pushchairs. There is a nice pub at one end which is fairly child friendly. Can't remember what it is called though. My dd loves watching the boats and the ducks etc.

Beeston Castle nearby is fairly cheap and great for a picnic on a nice day.

Big indoor play places at Blakemere craft centre and Lady heyes craft centre but both are a few miles outside of Chester itself.

Crocky Trail not far away.

Blue Planet aquarium?

Cheshire Oaks retail outlet village has a great outdoor play area which is free and all undercover.

Further away try Tatton Park, £4.50 entry per car, which includes entry to the huge play area, parkland and cafe but entrance to kids farm, house and gardens are extra if you are not NT members.

Stockley Farm about half an hours drive from Chester is fab.

collect kelloggs vouchers and you can get a child in with a paying adult to chester zoo or blue planet aquarium. both will be busy and zoo much better than aquarium.

aquarium will not take up an entire day

Sorry, got a bit carried away there, you said limited budget.

Delamere Forest is free, take bikes and stay all day.

Walton Gardens near Warrington has huge play areas and a free mini zoo.

I think the Roman Museum is still free.

BlueDragonfly · 06/06/2008 22:34

grosvenor park pretty much in Chester city centre - has a playground.

Heifer · 14/06/2008 22:54

Several beaches on the Wirral about 30 mins away.

Not the best beaches for swimming as muddy when tide out, but great for sand castles etc.

hayley2u · 14/06/2008 23:06

just dont go blue planet aquarium(kids are free under certain height) loads of poo
