All inclusive with no sun bed wars

Hello I’m looking for recommendations for an all inclusive hotel for the summer holidays next year where sun beds are in plentiful supply and we don’t need to get up early to reserve them. Budget up to £4k for 2 adults 2 children so unfortunately can’t afford Ikos etc! Thank you 😊

You can sit on a sunbed and watch your children? Toddler you need to be right by them, but from the age of 7 both my children has completed all the swimming levels and could play in a pool without me glued to their side, or course I would still watch them from my lounger 2ft from the poolside.

From 8+ the can go swimming without an adult in the UK. My DC would often go with friends.

Yes but people are talking about loungers that aren't near the poolside

And also just because you can do something doesn't mean you should

Mine were strong swimmers by 8 too but no way would I have let them swim unsupervised at that age. Lifeguards just cannot see everything

Are they? Talking about non pool side loungers?

These holidays seem stressful and not great. Who wants all this angst? There are smaller places with pools surely? Why AI? They are mostly huge and full of people who lounge all day. I’d be looking for a mix of activities and a pool day occasionally and definitely not AI.

Lovely to know what you’d be looking for

Depends when. On Sani holidays we had to bag sunbeds for two families by one of us getting up at 8am every day, Took it in turns and took a book. Four years in a row. Can’t be arsed with it any more. Not had the same problem with mark warner. Everyone too busy doing stuff to be sat by the pool all day

I've been to Sani twice (Beach and Club) and Ikos (Aria) once, all in August. Never any issues with sun beds. The lovely staff keep an eye out for sunbed-savers. They give them an hour's grace and then remove their stuff to the lifeguard station.

Yes, theres people saying about resorts where you can get loungers "as long as you don't need to be poolside". But unless ops children are teens then she needs to be poolside

Me too and same experience

ConnieHeart · 25/08/2025 09:03

Barut B Suites in Turkey. They have their own section on the beach so the pools or the beach are never crowded

I also find that I'm quite happy sitting in the cafe area anyway, I don't need to be near the pool.as my kids are much older

Hence them saying “as long as you don’t need to be poolside”

I have children

I don’t need to be poolside

We're just back from an AI in a big hotel with a full daytime and evening entertainment programme. So many sports, games and other activities on offer, something for everyone. We barely sat down, and had such a great time!

I'm an AI fan too, personally. Cos it's all there and it's all easy. Obviously you want to pick somewhere with good food and drink and daily specials, so it doesn't get too samey by the end. When I was pricing up holidays for next year, adding AI to the package only added about £50 a day to the price (for four people) - even in the fancy places - which really surprised me. I'd struggle to do SC on that budget (assuming you have a nice restaurant dinner most nights) and anyway, fuck it am I going backwards and forwards to the supermarket in the heat every day. I'm on holiday!

That’s nice dear. Why don’t you start a thread about that then? Why do you feel the need to criticize the OP for her question? ‘I have nothing helpful to say, but I don’t like that a stranger wants to go on a holiday that doesn’t interest me. I must tell her!!’

I'm being stupid but if you have children surely you need one sunbed tops as the other parent needs to be watching the children in the pool?

Only if your DC are very young/and or poor swimmers. Once ours were 8 or so and strong swimmers we watched them from a sun lounger

shitshow1976 · 23/08/2025 17:05

Nothing helpful to add but I've just been to a beautiful 5star in Antalya and we headed down to the pool mid morning and if there were no beds available I'd remove the towels and take 3 beds for us if it was obvious no one was occupying them. Too may entitled people that put towels down and clear off for the day

How did you discern which beds to do that to though?

purpleme12 · 25/08/2025 09:43

I'm not actually one of the sunbed hoggers but when we were on our one holiday in years this summer I wasn't confident if I should just take away the towels or which to do it to or what!

I know, I love AI. The only thing is you are tied to staying at the hotel all the time. Quite often there's very little to do outside of the hotel so you could be anywhere in the world, it looks much the same. But it's brilliant for kids, my dds are not fussy due to trying loads of different foods in AI over the years. Oh and I love perking my way through the cocktail list 😊

We did go self catering this year, we had a lovely big apartment & a pool pretty much to ourselves. It was nice ordering from a menu & taking our time over dinner. But I think we'll go back to AI next year

That depends where it is surely? Greece, Cyprus, Canaries, Spain... you just walk out and do what you want. We did it daily. They aren't prisons.

uselesseuphless · 25/08/2025 10:17

You can book your sunbeds for the week at Alexander the Great in Paphos!

Yes I agree that I like to go on daily walks when I'm on AI. But I wouldn't go out somewhere else for dinner. Maybe a drink at a push!

Early3Rise · 25/08/2025 10:49

Just remove the towel

Hadalifeonce · 25/08/2025 10:56

We've been to Mexico and India where staff remove towels if they are not used. Although we were verbally abused after we used a couple of empty sunbeds after lunch, apparently this couple had put their towels on them before breakfast, and gone for a 'quick walk'. Luckily, a staff member told them their towels had been removed as the sunbeds weren't being used.

Oh well, more fool them. If they'd been told about the policy of staff removing towels then they had no right to verbally abuse you. I always move my stuff if I know I won't be using the sunbed for a while
I try to choose hotels with plenty of space around the pools so there aren't any sunbed wars however one day in our AI in Tenerife last year they had a foam party later in the morning so of course everyone wanted to be there & sunbeds were reserved v early in the morning. On our way to breakfast I noticed the last few free sunbeds together & also clocked a family moving in on them too so I put a sprint on & flung my towels over the beds. Not my finest hour but it had to be done

TizerorFizz · 25/08/2025 20:41

@GrumpyExpat If you don’t relish sunbed wars you avoid places where this happens! It’s fairly obvious really.

The idea that people don’t venture out of AI hotel is odd too. Obviously everything isn’t there. Local restaurants, culture, architecture, museums and art definitely aren’t there.

Tell you what @TizerorFizz
How about you avoid commenting on others holidays and just focus on your holiday home.

You are all over mumsnet pissing over people’s holidays. If it’s not Disneyland, it is Mexico or resort holidays or AI.

Yes, yes, we know you have a “paid off” holiday home. For some of us, that is unappealing but each to their own 💐

PoorPhaedra · 25/08/2025 20:55

Alvor Baia hotel in Alvor, Portugal. Massive pool, hundreds of sunbeds and the lifeguards remove towels if they are reserved and not used.

TizerorFizz · 25/08/2025 20:59

@Returnofjude Paid off? What has my house got to do with anything and who knows about my house which I rarely use. I don’t need your stupid advice thanks. It’s pretty stunning already! How bizarre you think it’s worth mentioning. And, by the way, you don’t censor me or anyone else. But anyone hating sunbed wars can avoid them. Come and use my pool! (Only joking)
