Hit me with them….We are thinking of booking one

OP posts:
MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 28/07/2025 17:36

I've always enjoyed our holidays there, but I think they are what you make them..

We've always booked the best caravan we could afford, and booked day trips out, planned pool days and then chilled in the entertainment bar of an evening.

Shesellsseashellsnotinmystreet · 28/07/2025 17:37

Haggerston Castle. Don't do it op.
Craig Tara Ayrshire we go every year. Even late teens still love going....

Coffeeishot · 28/07/2025 17:37

They are fine worst one ive been to 1 a tiny one in Dorset i can't remember what it was called it was an absolute hole ! Favourite is Haggerston castle it doesn't take that long for us to ger there.

Just look at reviews before you book

clareykb · 28/07/2025 17:48

We've just been to Haggersrton on weekend trips as it's about the right distance from home and always had a good time. Loads to do nearby ans I agree with others in that get the best van you can and then plan round that. We don't tend to do entertainment really just chill in the bar

troppibambini6 · 28/07/2025 17:48

Yep Haggerston castle is awful. People drinking cans of special brew at 10am. Being shouted at for whispering during bingo. The whole place was just rough.
That said the surrounding areas were beautiful.

BleeBlahBlue · 28/07/2025 17:53

Craig Tara is an absolute shite hole.

I always enjoyed Berwick Upon Tweed, can get a sea view caravan, got the beach and town close by. But is still really busy.

Actually prefer a Parkdean to a Haven, less busy but depends what you like to do.

Tarkan · 28/07/2025 17:53

We’ve only ever done Craig Tara and enjoyed it. The kids are older now so we haven’t been for a few years. We occasionally did the quiz night and the bingo, preferred the quiz to the bingo but most of the time we didn’t bother with the entertainment. Kids did some of the activities one year as a family member worked there so we got some reduced stuff that way and we occasionally met up with some family through in Ayr too.

We used to go in October so booked the apartments as they were cosier than the caravans if the weather wasn’t great. Our dogs loved the beach there and the kids loved the arcade. It’s also where we randomly saw the northern lights for the first time ever despite us actually living further north than Ayr. 🙈

TheMAFSfan · 28/07/2025 17:55

Greenacres is lovely. Hafan Y Mor is brilliant got kids, loads to do.

dahliadiva · 28/07/2025 17:58

Lakeland, Hafan y Mor, Perran Sands, Haggerston Castle, had a good time at all of these. Pay extra for a silver van with decking though and you won't be too close to the centre of the park, so it'll be quieter and more relaxing

DrCoconut · 28/07/2025 18:06

Haven is pricey but worth it if you like lots of entertainment laid on. We've been to Cleethorpes (used to be Thorpe park) and Reighton sands and had a good time. We do tend to go to parkdean or coastfields more as they have better local ish options for us.

Noshadowsinthedark · 28/07/2025 18:11

I really like them but I would always pay for the caravan we want and the spot we want.

Stayed in a saver caravan once (only once!) and the noise was insane, we left a night early. They’re packed like sardines.

Hafan Y Mor is beautiful and has loads to do. Haggerston is ok but pay for a nicer caravan in one of the more spaces our bits. Port Seton not much there to do but it’s a good location for Edinburgh and surrounding areas.

JonSnowedUnder · 28/07/2025 18:12

We did Blue Dolphin last year, never again! The caravan (we went for a gold one I believe) was nice and the immediate area was lovely, overlooking a pond but the swimming pool was rank. Nobody showering before going in, hair floating around, plasters everywhere. It was crowded so you were basically just floating around and the slides were rubbish. The kids enjoyed themselves, activities were cheap and easy to book.

DejaMooo · 28/07/2025 18:12

I’ve only ever been to Primrose Valley, Filey. It was fine for a cheap getaway but I wouldn't go back. I think I found the sheer size of it quite depressing. Just rows and rows and rows of caravans as far as the eye could see. Beach was lovely though.

NoweverytimeIgoforthemailbox · 28/07/2025 18:22

This is interesting. Lots of votes in both directions for Haggerston Castle. I’m wondering why? It’a not far from us so I have considered it.

dahliadiva · 28/07/2025 18:30

I like Haggerston because you can go to Bamburgh and Seahouses! The park is alright but we only really use the pool, hire bikes and use it as a base to explore the wider area. I avoid the amusements but the kids like to go - they're teens. I like caravan parks because they're 'free range' - the kids can wander and I can sit on the decking with my wine 😅

NavyTiger · 28/07/2025 18:31

Absolutely loved Devon cliffs

DeirdreChambersWhatACoincidence · 28/07/2025 18:34

We've been to Primrose Valley, Filey. I liked it, we only used the caravan as a place to sleep and didn't do anything on site except swimming.

It was clean and quiet enough, but not very well organised- took me ages to find the caravan. We're going back though!

Loveshine · 28/07/2025 18:36

Reighton Sands is lovely but small. Blue Dolphin was okay. Caravans were nicer than our accommodation at Butlins but Butlins has more going for it in terms of entertainment and the pool is better. We had great holidays at all of them but think it was helped by being term time so it was quieter.

Bananachimp · 28/07/2025 18:36

Isn't it funny how there's conflicting views on Thai one thread about multiple sites. Goes to show that holidays are very individual and everyone has different expectations. As someone else said, it is what you make it.

Scottishdreams1991 · 28/07/2025 18:38

We're recently back from haven berwick. We absolutely loved it lots close by etc but the site itself didn't seem too busy compared to craig Tara. We had a seaview gold caravan which was well worth the extra money

Coffeeishot · 28/07/2025 18:38

We went to primrose valley years ago but with our own towing caravan it is a nice site kids had a blast.

Coffeeishot · 28/07/2025 18:41

We do parkdean now dc all grown up we take the dog so.it suits.

Ebenezerscrogge · 28/07/2025 18:42

Riverie Sands in Hayle for the location and the beach in the best caravan you can afford - Seaview is worth paying for . Or try the lodges opposite I think it’s called Toms holidays or something like that - doesn’t have the facilities but does have the views and beach

AddictedToBooks · 28/07/2025 18:46

We love going on our Haven holidays - we go twice a year and always book one of the higher grades - usually Silver but we're trying out Gold in 8 weeks.

As for the parks themselves, they do vary - we've been on a couple that were awful - but that was to do with other holidaymakers rather than Haven themselves.

We always go to Greenacres in North Wales near Porthmadog now and we love it.
We've never had any reason to complain over any of the caravans and every caravan we've had has exceeded our expectations and has really felt like a home from home.

Reallynosuchthing · 28/07/2025 19:07

We stayed at Wild Duck Norfolk, after we had loads of people tell us it’s the best thing ever, We went for the best caravan by the lake and the caravan was fine, basic but clean and had everything we needed. However… the restaurant was awful, terrible freezer food, the pool was dirty, and you had to book your pool slots a week before arriving (which were limited and hard to get when you wanted) and it was still so busy in the pool we couldn’t really swim. We paid £10 per person to do an inflatable swim session and the inflatable obstacle course deflated and we had to get out for 15 mins of the 30 minute session. No one apologised or offered a refund. The life guards were useless and the older kids were rude and pushing younger ones over. Every where we turned people were smoking and drunk. We just went out every day (you had to drive). I wouldn’t return.
