Easyjet - Upset re seat allocation

Ok - I'm adding my big girl pants (literally) as I can appreciate not everyone will agree with me (this is fine) but please accept that Im embarrassed and upset about this....

So today I check in online for our holiday - thare are 4 adults going inc me &DH. I do not want to pay extra for extra leg rooms seats or to sit somewhere specific or even all together as we are not bothered - its a short flight - I ignore those options & let them alloacte me seats - the allocation I dont see until I checked the boarding passes - I have been allocated a seat in row 11. I checked on the website to see where seat is & the info blurb basically says you can't sit in that row if you need a seat belt extender which I will (I am larger but can fit seat just have a large stomach). I try to change seats but cannot as checked in so i go to the chat function.

The agent (real person) basically says I can move but I have to pay extra £ for a suitable seat. I say I dont want to pay any additional £ but he advises as its my choice I have to if I want to move - I do point out that the seat was randomly allocated to me and I happy to sit in that row but the regulatioons on the website wont allow me to. He says my only option is to pay. His other suggestion is that I swap with one of the other 3 in the party - but they are also in row 11. He then says staff will sort it when I board ... Im not happy with last suggestion because for one what if there isnt a spare seat & also its embarrasing & could delay tinhgs trying to switch nce on plane. Feel really upset :-(

Haven't RTFT, but I have read your replies OP.

You say your roundness is all your tummy - can you not put the seatbelt under your tummy? Across your lap. And then not need an extender?

onehorserace · 01/07/2025 19:18

What is at the heart of this reluctance to let it be resolved onboard?

What is at the heart of your reluctance to RTFT?

I do t mind at all being moved on the plane just really concerned it may not be possible/ will delay everything for everyone else on board (who will then be giving me evil looks)

friendlycat · 01/07/2025 19:55

If you don’t want to sort this out at boarding, would it not just be easier for you to pay for one seat change for you?

Sometimes it’s just better to take the easiest option even if you don’t agree with it.

Many people in the know have told her this won't happen. I'm wondering if it is because of her size if I am honest.

Greenkindness · 01/07/2025 20:04

I don’t think you should pay. I really think you will get someone on board to swap

Well then you'd be right from one point of view - I'm trying to get used to the effects of my medical situation currently and don't like the extra weight around my middle , - in the overall situation of being ill it isn't important but I guess to me it's trying to get used to it a bit like I got used to my thinning hair around menopause, it just bothers me - I'm no supermodel , a million miles from it , but I like to look nice despite being large especially extra large around my middle right now - it's just something that bothers me

I am struggling to comprehend how multiple different people at EZY have now listened to you say “I have been allocated an exit row seat but cannot sit there for safety reasons” and heard you saying “Please give me an extra legroom seat free of charge”.

How can they all be that stupid?

Also, how could the contact from “Peter” be a scam - how would he have got your telephone number?

notimagain · 02/07/2025 08:22

The first part is I think credible, the dreaded system at Easyjet may well be such that a seat change ahead of time without payment simply isn't allowed - that's why the OP got bounced from around from one agent/department to another.

Like you I don't understand the telephone number and scam comments.

If it can't be done then they should stop wasting her time and tell her it can't be done and she will need to tell the cabin crew and get them to sort it out when she boards.

I got the impression maybe a million posts back (certainly feels that long ago) that the OP had told by one of the agents that it couldn't be done without paying....

Really people will not know the reason for you being moved. I didn't know there was a rule about extended belts not being allowed in those rows and I've flown for 52 years. People are too busy getting settled into their seats and their bags etc to look at others, believe me.

I think, quite reasonably, OP was rather hoping someone at Easyjet would understand that she's actually asking to be moved OUT of an extra legroom seat and that therefore they might just be able to randomly reassign her seat to any other within the cabin at no cost.

I'm sure it will be really straightforward on the day but the OP thought it would make sense to avoid any inconvenience to the cabin crew, or being seen as a problem by her fellow passengers, and Easyjet's own inflexible system is preventing her from doing that.

notimagain · 02/07/2025 12:08

Oh I understand the OP's original line of thought....it's some of what's happened since that's a bit of a puzzle...

Greenkindness · 02/07/2025 21:00

@BeaLola I asked my friend who is cabin crew.

She says to say at check in as your first port of call. If you explain you need an extender and won’t be allowed in the allocated row they should sort it out at this point. Remember you have in very good faith tried to sort this out with EasyJet already.

However if this doesn’t work she says cabin crew will definitely sort this out as the plane won’t take off until you are given a different seat because of needing people in that row who can act in an emergency.

She says she would just discreetly and tactfully ask someone in the row in front if they’d like to move, not a big deal. She was very non-plussed, honestly.

I just said you were someone I knew.
