Do you have any recommendations for a holiday break in October - somewhere still hot (high 20s, early 30's) with a luxury hotel.

Would rather not fly more than 12 hours - ideally a lot shorter than that!

Lovely beach,luxury hotel, good food!

Just a flop on the beach for a week type thing.

For the week beginning 18th Oct.

Thanks

You need Prufrock, she's been to some fab hotels in the last couple of years, bootcampers have been swooning over them. Hang on will see if I can find any.

SNoraWotzThat · 24/05/2008 12:46

1 week or 2 weeks

soapbox · 24/05/2008 12:48

1 week, preferably although could be 8 or 9 days if we use the weekends at both ends

WideWebWitch · 24/05/2008 12:56

well, here's one place

SNoraWotzThat · 24/05/2008 12:57

But if you do long-haul you'd probably need to leave your holiday destination on the Saturday and arrive back on Sunday - giving you 7 nights
Sat to Sat £4k Almond beach Village All Incl. 7 nights.

Too much?
Would you email me?

Really, really liking Nevis - very, strong contender!

Snora - I think Nevis has the edge at the moment! Will email you if we change to Barbados!

Any other ideas anyone?

OP posts:
SNoraWotzThat · 24/05/2008 13:27

Bit more tricky to get to Nevis
includes Island hops etc

OK, no problems, its just I was looking at and identical thing for a mate. So....

What about Grenada or St Lucia? Lovely.....

soapbox · 24/05/2008 13:33

Yes, I know what you mean about getting there - have just send Pru a message on Facebook to ask her what the journey was like! Having said that, the children might enjoy the little plane!

I've been to St Lucia a few times, not in a desperate rush to go there.

Haven't done Grenada - will have a look on Tripadvisor for hotels.

Is the Caribbean dependable at that time of the year, weatherwise?

OP posts:
SNoraWotzThat · 24/05/2008 13:43

Dependable weather?
Not peak time in Caribbean which is more likely to have storms from Aug - October, but so does Florida, which doesn't appear to put anyone off going there. Hundreds of UK tourist book to travel to Florida in Aug and October half term. Would I go to Caribbean? See other thread in profile history.

bluesky · 24/05/2008 15:30

think Mauritius is meant to be nice for October half term.

soapbox · 24/05/2008 16:29

Bluesky - we've done Mauritius a few times now but are trying to broaden our horizons a little

Snora you obviously like the Caribbean - have you any recommendations for Granada?

More than happy to give some advice off the forum
I'm not some mad stalker, ask Mars she knows me as Wotz.

How about Dubai? Fab weather in October and loads of luxury hotels. Highly recommend the Jumeirah Madinat Resort (Hotels Al Qasr and the Mina a Salam) - flight time 7 hours ish. Or Egypt? Much cheaper but good selection of luxury hotels in Sharm. Can also recommend the brand new Barcelo Maya Palace which opened at Christmas link here. Absolutely gorgeous - would go back in a heartbeat. 10.5 hour outgoing flight, 9 hour return for us.

copycat · 24/05/2008 17:58

ps ... beware the weather in October in the Caribbean though. It's the end of the rainy season. We have been to the Bahamas in October and the weather was very disappointing; hot but cloudy and rainy some days.

soapbox · 24/05/2008 18:12

Will email you Wotz!

Copycat - I had wondered about Egypt any hotel ideas? I don't really fancy Dubai.

Hello. Yes Nevis was wonderful, one of the few hotels that dh and I have said we will go back to.

Flight not an issue, especially as yours are older than mine. Fly Virgin (much better than BA IMO and seatback TV's/games will keep kids amused) to Antigua then get the 17 seater to Nevis - it leaves at 4:40 which I think ties in with the Intl arrival. If not, you can go via St Kitts and the hotel launch will pick you up in a taxi at the airport and take you to the hotel in their own boat - which ever way, once you come out of customs they do everything for you.

Get 2 interconnecting ground floor rooms with mountain view - you have a terrace with a lawn outside looking over the golf course and it's really quiet, but still only a 200 yard stroll to the beach/main hotel. And if you can't do that at the end of the evening they'll drop you off in a golf cart!

Food in the Caribbean and Italian restaurants was good, breakfast was amazing, room service superb. The fine dining restaurant was a little disappointing for the prices. Service at beach bar at lunchtimes was sometimes a bit slow, but always smiling. The Nevisian smile was a seriously addictive baileys based cocktail.

Kids club was the best I've seen. They have a pirate ship and a ball pit in the first room, staff were wonderful. It's open 9-5, and kids can stay and have lunch there if you want to go out for the day. We tended to put ours in 10-2, then have a siesta so they could stay up late. They often didn't want to leave. They have lots of different activities, and for the older ones they have a chillout room with video games, computers etc. Free DVD hire from the shop for you/kids to watch in your room and all the American kids channels. You can easily get babysitters in the evening to stay in your room if you want to go out.

Prufrock · 24/05/2008 18:47

You do have to go out for dinner at least twice. The Hermitage is superb - their chocolate bomb is the best dessert I have ever ever tasted and I now regularly make it for dinner parties at home. Miss Junes is an institution - it's like a 70's dinner party for 50, with all the food served buffet style and cooked by Miss June herself, who must be at least 70 and looks like she's stepped out of the Princess Margaret at Goldeneye photo's.

Beach/pool fabulous, as soon as you arrive poolside there's an attendant there to put towels on your lounger, adjust your umbrella, serve you iced water and frozen strawberries. You don't even need to take suncream - they have it at poolside, and you get plentiful L'occitane toiletries including aftersun in your rooms.

Beach cabana has snorkelling equipment for you and kids, and the rock breaks just 100 yards offshore are teeming with fish - I taught dd to snorkel and she loved it. If you want to dive, Ellis is the funniest divemaster I've met, and there's great dives around - hotel arranges taxis to take you to him.

Prufrock · 24/05/2008 18:48

Spa/gym is wonderful - I borrowed a yoga mat and did sun salutations to the mountain on my terrace every morning. Great massages, and the spa has courtyards and pools where you can relax before and after - beware the cold plunge pool though - it really is cold.

Ask if you've got any more questions - though I think I've probably said everything!

mumoftwo37 · 24/05/2008 18:53

Cape Verde Islands my parents have been nearly everywhere and went here at Christmas. They said it was amazing - we are planning to go in November and only a 6 hour flight.
