Zell am see eurocamp

Roosty38 · 03/06/2025 05:49

Hi
We are staying at eurocamp at zell am see in Austria this summer and would like some tips please. There is 2 adults 8yr old and 4 yr old.
Is it easy to get to the town from the campsite to go for meals? Taxi or buses? What would the temperature be like at end if August? Any suggestions on activities to do whilst there with 2 young children? We like to do walking and site seeing and swimming. What's the best supermarket to go to? (I'm vegetarian)
Does anyone know if eurocamp provide sommercard? Or where we can get one from? Also is it easy to get the bus from airport to zell am?

sorry alot of questions!

Thanks
Rakhee

Salzburg Airport is about 85km away from your Eurocamp.

Your Eurocamp is also not directly in Zell am See, nor is it on the main lake, but several kilometres away in Bruck. They have their own tiny lake. There is a bus once per hour from Salzburg Airport to Zell am See, from there you would have to check yourself. This bus take around 2 hours!

Use Google maps for supermarkets, there are a couple in Bruck.

The nearest swimming place on the main lake is about 40mins walk away from the camp.

It all seems quite inconvenient without a car to be honest, did you check the location and amenities before booking?

rivalsbinge · 03/06/2025 06:44

Can you drive there? It takes about 14-16 hours from the UK and you can stop off. Then you’ll have a car which will make life easier. But TBH Eurocamps have everything on site as well so you maybe won’t need to even leave.

Snakeandladder · 03/06/2025 06:47

Did you mean to put your name in the OP?

Havanananana · 03/06/2025 09:43

Exactly which campsite are you staying at? As pp^^ there is a campsite (Sportcamp Woferlgut) at Bruck, which is some way out of Zell am See, but there are other campsites around the actual Zell Lake (but these might not be Eurocamp sites).

Assuming that you're at Woferlgut ...

From Salzburg Airport there is a direct bus to Zell am See (Postbus 260) which terminates at the station at Zell. The journey takes just over 2 hours. To get out to Bruck you could take a taxi from the station forecourt or even a local train to Bruck station (one stop on the line). Buses between Zell an Bruck are not very frequent.

Alternatively, you could take a taxi or trolleybus from the airport in to the main railway station in Salzburg, and take a direct train from Salzburg to Bruck.

Note that whichever option you choose, public transport throughout the State of Salzburg is free of charge this summer for tourists. The campsite should provide the Mobility Card to you before you arrive - by email or through the app - so you can use this card to travel from Salzburg to your accommodation.

Other questions:

Does the campsite provide the sommercard? - You need to ask them. This card cannot be purchased anywhere - it is only available through the accommodation providers. But they are obliged to provide the Mobility Card (see post above). If you don't receive the sommercard you'll need to pay for the attractions and cable cars.

Getting from the campsite to the town for meals etc - Bruck has a few hotel restaurants and cafes but is really just a small village. To get in to Zell you'll need to take the train (see above) or a taxi, or a bus.

Supermarket - there is a big MaxiMarkt just outside of Bruck (15 mins walk?) with a Hofer (Aldi) opposite. I can't remember if there is a small shop in Bruck - there is almost certain to be a Billa or Spar in the village.

Activities - apart from the activities at the campsite, there is swimming in the lake at Zell am See (there's a lido about 10 minutes walk along the promenade from the station, just after the Grand Hotel), cable cars from the centre of Zell or from the base of Schmittenhohe (free bus from the station or bus station). Rent ebikes and take the quiet backroads around the lake (clockwise from MaxiMarkt), and on to Maria Alm or Saalfelden. There is snow at the top of Kitzsteinhorn in Kaprun, and a snow play area in the summer. There is a summer toboggan run (on rails) at Maiskogel in Kaprun.

Temperature in August - you're in the mountains, so it might be 30 deg and bright sunshine one minute, and 10 deg and thunderstorms the next, and then sunshine again an hour later. Take a light rain jacket, but otherwise August is generally hot and dry.

Thank you. Yes we did research and thought because I read that transport is good in zell am see that car is not needed. But maybe that was just centre zell am. We might have to hire a car. The accommodation in centre was too expensive.

Thank you so much. Really helpful. How easy is it get taxis? We probably have to get bus or train to zell am then I guess. Might hire a car now for ease

Just as an aside it’s beautiful!! Zell is our go- to ski resort, so you will have an amazing time with it without a car.

Havanananana · 03/06/2025 15:58

@Roosty38

I'm not sure you need a car, except for convenience.

The Woferlgut Campsite is only a few minutes walk from Bruck station, from where there are trains about once an hour to Zell am See. The train journey is only one stop and takes 6 minutes - and it's free with the Mobility Card. This is the reason why buses are infrequent - the trains are far quicker. Zell am See station is in the centre of the town, right by the lake.

NB - there is more than one "Bruck" station in Austria. The one you want is either called Bruck-Fusch or Bruck/Grossglocknerstrasse-Fusch. There is a journey planner (in English) on Tickets & services

I've looked on Google Maps - I don't think it would take more than 10 minutes to walk to the MaxiMarkt and Hofer supermarkets. There are roads and a path that run alongside the railway.

Taxis are numerous. At Zell am See there is a rank outside the railway station; otherwise the campsite should be able to provide a list of local numbers. At Bruck station you probably need to order a taxi in advance.

The campsite don't do the summer card. Is there any other of getting one?

OP posts:
Roosty38 · 03/06/2025 23:03

Or has anyone bought the salzburgerland card?

OP posts:
Havanananana · 04/06/2025 08:52

The Zell am See Sommercard cannot be purchased - it is only available directly from the accommodation providers as part of the accommodation package.

The Salzburgerland Card is of no use if you don't have a car - and few of the attractions are in the Zell area anyway. For example, it doesn't cover the cable cars in Zell am See or in Saalbach-Hinterglemm. There is plenty to do in the Zell area - and of course the campsite has its own activities.

@Havanananana Hi
We are off to zell am see in a couple of weeks. Can't believe it's come round so fast. Do you know if it's worth booking tickets for bus 260 from airport to zell am?
Thanks

OP posts:
Havanananana · 05/08/2025 14:38

@Roosty38

  1. It is not possible to book tickets for the #260 bus. The bus stops outside the main terminal building - just walk under the canopy across the car parking area towards the multi-storey car park and the car hire offices.

  2. The campsite should be providing you with a Salzburgerland Mobility Ticket, which gives you free public transport throughout the State of Salzburg - including all of the buses and trains around Zell am See and Bruck. The Ticket is valid from the day that you arrive - i.e. you can use it even before you reach the accommodation and check in - so you can use it for the #260 bus or the train from Salzburg to Zell am See on your arrival day. It is also valid on your departure day, so you can also use it to get back to Salzburg on the day that you leave. You need to contact the campsite and provide them with your details in advance (name, address, DOB for everyone) and they should email you the Ticket or send you a link to the app.

There have been reports that some accommodation providers are not providing tourists with this Ticket. They are legally obliged to provide it - and if they refuse you should contact the scheme >Guest Mobility Ticket - Guest Mobility Ticket

Havanananana · 05/08/2025 15:51

@Roosty38 Looking at the eurocamp website, it says that they do provide the Mobility Ticket to their guests, so contact them and pre-register so that you have the Ticket for the journey from Salzburg to Zell am See. The Ticket actually costs guests 50 cents per day (which is the normal rate) which is added to the cost of the Tourist Tax.

user2207 · 05/08/2025 16:20

You can also buy swim and hike card (check online). They are valid for 6 days and allow use of all cable cars, all beaches on the lake and also swimming pool in Zell (convenient if the weather not great.
Taxi is easy to book on the phone (uber does not work in Zell am See).
Enjoy all the mountain walks, it is stunningly beautiful there up in the mountains. Many huts and mountain restaurants are open in summer up in the mountains, many have playgrounds. There are family walks and more challenging walks, all nicely signposted so very easy to navigate.

user2207 · 05/08/2025 16:23

For 260 bus you can pay on the bus or prebook in the app. Public transport is easy and if you have problems obtaining the mobility ticket, then weekly travelcard is a good cheap options. You can buy one which includes Salzburg area or the local Pinzgau region only. With the travel card you can use buses and trains within the zone.

Havanananana · 05/08/2025 16:30

@user2207 There is no need to buy any tickets for the buses or trains in the entire State of Salzburg. Public transport is free for tourists, who receive the Mobility Ticket from their accommodation provider (i.e. the hotel, apartment or campsite where they stay).

Re: weather - just got back from a week in the Zell Am See area and the weather was wet and cold for most of it 😢 But we had a couple of nice days. Definitely explore renting e bikes - loads of fun and you can cycle all round the lake.

Take waterproofs and waterproof shoes in case of rain! Then you can enjoy wet walks up and down the mountains which is kind of fun in its own way!

Roosty38 · 08/08/2025 07:05

Hi. Do we need swimshoes to swim in the lake? Thanks
