DH wants a luxury beach holiday

Goingawayistricky · 28/05/2025 08:01

I need advice please.
We both work in jobs with restricted leave (I’m school he’s self employed but travel s abroad with his job). Therefore I am the master of short stay, quirky or last minute deals.
DH said last night he fancies going to someone “lovely”. St Kitts and Nevis appealed to him. He wants white beaches, blue sea and rum. He might also like villas over the sea apparently.

I am out of my comfort zone with this sort of holiday. Most of the online suggestions seem to be aimed at the US. I love America but less fond of Americans on holiday.

Where do I start? August is free. I don’t mind it might be low season due to weather.

@Goingawayistricky Saying ‘on holiday’ doesn’t really make it any better. I want to go on holiday.. someplace without Africans please… they grate.

It just wasn’t really needed.

ELP1983 · 28/05/2025 15:28

Maybe an all Inc package through TUI to somewhere like Mexico/ Dom rep might be easier for you to book?

tanstaafl · 28/05/2025 15:49

Not wishing to bring the mood down but does having a penis mean he’s unable to pick the holiday location to go with the holiday he wants?

CraftyH · 28/05/2025 15:51

Dubai.

CraftyH · 28/05/2025 15:51

Dubai.

In August?? Don’t be mental.

SmoothRoads · 28/05/2025 16:31

Villas over the sea sounds more like Maldives. Not sure how great that is in August.

minipie · 28/05/2025 17:16

August in the Maldives is really unpredictable. You could get wall to wall sunshine, short sharp showers or wall to wall rain. For me it’s not worth the risk given travel time and cost.

Goingawayistricky · 28/05/2025 17:33

Thanks all. Good to know @HermioneWeasley

I take everyone’s point about the time of year but Christmas is out as we have to visit parents. We alternate and as both sets live a five plus hour drive away take the opportunity to stay a week . Feb and Easter holidays are DH busy times. I sometimes fly out and join him but obviously a proper holiday for him doesn’t happen.

August is the only time we both have a decent stretch off this year.

@tanstaafl yes valid point. He does book the Christmas Airbnbs.
However because he travels loads he’s not as concerned about going away.
Whereas if I don’t get away in the holidays my window of opportunity has shut.

Aruba is gorgeous in August. Expensive to get there and there are Americans on holiday. But worth it!

angelcake20 · 28/05/2025 17:35

When I was teaching, we went to Jamaica in October half term. We used to say that we weren’t beach holiday people but tried it once and were hooked. I would generally agree with you about Americans but the ones at our usual adult only, laid back all-inclusive have always been fine.

newrubylane · 28/05/2025 17:37

Cape Verdi might have the right vibe?

newrubylane · 28/05/2025 17:37

Cape Verdi might have the right vibe?

I don't think the vibe is very luxurious at Cape Verde is it? And the sea is bloody freezing.

HScully · 28/05/2025 19:07

Skiathos has beautiful beaches, Elivi is a nice hotel if you want to stay somewhere high end.

But a trip in to town on an evening is wonderful. It is magical

Clearinguptheclutter · 28/05/2025 19:13

Re the comment about Americans - I spent a week in a spendy hotel in the Bahamas with some very loud, obnoxious, mostly obese Americans who were literally diving at the buffet. I’d never go anywhere near the Bahamas again tbh. (for balance I’ve met lovely American tourists elsewhere)

yes I’m sure a similar breed of Brits are to be found abroad too. I’ve managed to mostly avoid on my holidays, long may that continue.

DismondShoes · 28/05/2025 19:59

I’d choose somewhere in Europe or an expensive hotel in Turkey.

Goingawayistricky · 28/05/2025 20:38

DH won’t do Turkey. We’ve both done lots of Greece too.

Australia? I wouldn’t know where to start but there must be something similar there?

Out of my knowledge zone, but see what fancy places are like in August for Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand (I’ve only changed planes in that neck of the woods in GB Summer)

Given your limited dates, you might find it worth using a decent travel agent (I only use them for Africa and Oz, but I expect somebody will have a suggestion on Tripadvisor if you give a clue of the budget(ish)).

grizzlyoldbear · 28/05/2025 20:47

Goa?
Flights might be expensive but plenty of culture so you won't get bored of the beach, great food.

minipie · 28/05/2025 20:50

If you’re happy to fly to SE Asia then the best weather by some distance will be Indonesia (Bali, Lombok etc) or east coast Malaysia (Perhentian, Redang or Tioman islands) or various islands off Singapore (eg Nikoi)

SchoolDilemma17 · 28/05/2025 20:53

Maldives is amazing. No idea where the Disney comparison comes from??! It’s nothing like a theme park.

unless you have kids, don’t go to Ikos in August!! You will pay 10k and be surrounded by school kids.

beencaughttrollin · 28/05/2025 21:03

Don't be ridiculous; everyone knows Americans don't have passports!! 🙄

Oceangirl82 · 28/05/2025 21:22

Quite a few lovely Caribbean island out of the hurricane zone ABC Islands as previously mentioned also Grenada and Tobago.
Also some South American countries have coastlines on the Caribbean such as Guyana, Columbia and French Guiana.

Goingawayistricky · 28/05/2025 21:40

@SchoolDilemma17 I don’t really know much about the Maldives to be fair. But isn’t it lots of islands with nothing but a resort on each? Like Disney builds its resort hotels.

DismondShoes · 28/05/2025 21:44

How about the Seychelles?

Needlenardlenoo · 28/05/2025 22:34

If he wants something specific...why isn't he researching and booking it?
