Holidays for three adults

I find it incredibly difficult to locate holiday accommodation suitable for me, my husband and my young adult son - who still wants to travel with us. Most hotel options are either for double or twin rooms or family rooms with the beds all together in one room, or some sort of bed settee in the living area. I'm looking for two bed suites or possibly adjoining rooms but can't even work out the search options to identify these. I could just buy two double rooms but that's an expensive option. This seems to me a sector of the travel market that's hugely neglected.

Do you just want accommodation or fully catered? If it's just somewhere to stay, you would be better with a cottage or apartment, surely. I find it pretty easy to find a 2-bed, sometimes with a swimming pool, fairly cheap if it's not a busy time of year.

samarrange · 21/04/2025 10:42

"Adjoining rooms" are always going to be the same price as two double rooms, because that's what they are, just next to each other.

Suites tend to be more than twice the price of a double room, unless you get the "junior suite" which doesn't have two separate closed-off sleeping sections, and often the second bed is just a convertible sofa, which isn't always much fun for a week.

What you're asking for, in effect, is for hotels to build single rooms with no bathroom next to double rooms that do have a bathroom, but the yield on those would be terrible because the number of parties of three adults simply isn't all that big. It's just the way the economics of the industry work.

In the meantime, if you search on Booking dot com and say you want 3 adults people in one room, you will get the apartment/suite offers along with the two-double-bed rooms (which are very common in the US).

Is there any reason you wouldn’t opt for a 2 bedroom apartment?

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 21/04/2025 18:21

If he’s a young adult rather than a young teen can he not have his own room?

ive booked two rooms since the dds were 17 and 14. Last year we each got a one bed apartment. It was lovely. Rooms have always been on the same corridor even without asking.

Kellybonita · 21/04/2025 18:40

Why don't you get a two bedroom flat?

Easy?

I just booked a two bedroom flat in malaga for the week. I found it on booking com

That's pretty much what I'm looking for, but in a hotel complex rather than an Airbnb. I've rented houses like that before, but this time wanted a fuss free package solution.

Can i ask, what's wrong with a pull out sofa bed?

Redrosesposies · 21/04/2025 19:24

If you are looking abroad, Jet2's website has a search option for 2 bed apartments but I think you have to pick the resort to get that option not just the country.

On booking.com you can filter on apartments and 2 bedrooms. This will bring up some privately owned apartments but it’s easy to scroll through and find those on the kind of complexes you are after.

I think she said she doenst want an apartment though.

She wants a hotel.

Why can't he just have his own room?

OMGitsnotgood · 21/04/2025 19:32

We have stayed in apartments within hotel complexes which cover all the base - self catering, breakfast only, half board and all inclusive, which is why I asked. It’s not just ‘hotel or Airbnb’ We’ve only had one bedroom apartments recently so can’t recommend any but we have had 2 bedrooms when the children were with us.

Silvertulips · 21/04/2025 19:34

Family of 5

we have stayed in 2 bed apartments and gone all inclusive. Sometime we have had a bungalow (self catering type) but opted for all inclusive.

They aren’t difficult to find.

Where do you want to go?

Yeah I mean there are loads of options.

Privste Apartments on booking com

Or apartments in hotel complexes.

Or a sofa bed in a hotel room

TheChosenTwo · 21/04/2025 19:35

Sorry - I’m missing something here obviously - why can’t you just book 2 hotel rooms? We do it every time we do a hotel stay and never found it hard to find!

We do prefer to stay in a villa/apartment though - we want 4 bedrooms so the dc can have their own rooms and down time and communal space so we can hang out together if one person is wanting to sleep in a bit or go to bed earlier or whatever. Easier and much cheaper to have our own place than book 4 hotel rooms.

Most options I've looked at want you to fork out for another double or twin room which doubles the cost of the holiday when you are paying per person. I do want my son to have his own room and the privacy that comes with that. My point in starting the thread was to ask for resorts that offer two bedroom suites as I'm having difficulty locating those. Thankfully I've had a number of constructive replies with good suggestions.

I don't think many hotels do two bedroom suites for the price of one bedroom. Which is what you seem to be looking for.

They will always charge extra for the extra room

Where do you want to go?

Greece, probably Crete, would be number one choice. But I'd also consider Spain and Portugal.

I know a two bedroom suite will cost more than a one bedroom, but I was hoping it would cost a little bit less than two separate rooms and that it might be a nicer way for the three of us to balance spending time together with a bit of privacy.

Try Jet2. We’ve booked 2 bed apartments via them in the past. You may need to phone them though.

minnienono · 21/04/2025 19:41

If you want two rooms effectively then it’s going to be pricey for 3 as you’ll be paying a single person supplement. Plenty of hotels have two bedroom suites but this comes at a surcharge to a third person in the same room

TeenLifeMum · 21/04/2025 19:42

Greece has lots of apartments in hotel complexes, but 2 rooms in a hotel doesn’t double costs, you pay a single supplement but less than paying for 2 rooms. We always get 2 rooms and ensure that they have WiFi so we can WhatsApp meet up times.

Silvertulips · 21/04/2025 19:46

I just picked one - see the room choices
