Considering it as a place for October half term. What is there to do ? Is it safe to venture away from hotels ? Are there particular resorts that are better ?
Thanks

The dishonesty, constant being hassled/scammed and the men harassing women really disapointed us. It’s not a smiley happy place, it’s a “give us your money” place. On top of that, the food is mediocre and monotonous. If you hire a car to go off the beaten track it feels so unfriendly and unsafe. I got utterly stressed by being stared at. Blondes get stared at. My bf was blue eyed blond and drew male attention all the time and was offered drugs every time we sat down anywhere. Honestly, I’ve been to tangier and Marrakesh and up in the Atlas Mountains. I’d never go again. I never recommend it. Not nice.

I’d love that but dh would hate it. Can’t even convince him to use Airbnb in this country!

ive stayed ones more like a bed and breakfast. There’s staff and a reception and a breakfast area. You just stay in rooms like a hotel. They are often very beautiful inside with tiling and a central plunge pool. Many have rooftop terraces for drinks, coffee and breakfast.

OP I’d recommend joining a few or the Morocco vacation groups on Facebook to get some more opinions. Mumsnet seems to be very love or hate!

My experience has been quite different. Marrakesh was horrible - harassment, so crowded, the main square is awful - the snake charmers and monkey guys are terrible

However we have been several times, to Essaouira, Fez, Agadir and a couple of other places. Loved all of them but especially Essaouira.

I agree re Marrakech touristy areas but I still think if you stay in a lovely riad
with a pool and spend your time in rooftop restaurants you could have a good couple of days there and also do trips into the desert and Atlas Mountains from Marrakech as your base and you'd have a lovely 3-4 day break.
