Slightly cooler places temperature wise end of June

Any thoughts on places with slightly cooler temperatures at the end of June. To go away with easily pleased teens for relaxing and sightseeing.

TIA

The Alps - France, Austria or Italy? Temperatures around 25-30 deg max. and plenty of activities - and sights to see in the larger towns such as Salzburg or Bolzano.

workingcocker · 09/04/2025 17:39

Cornwall

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 09/04/2025 17:53

Essaouira - Morocco. Temperatures in the mid 20s.

Ayeayeaye25 · 09/04/2025 18:36

Not Morocco, Turkey, Dubai, Egypt or anywhere else in the UK.

I was wondering if Portugal or somewhere in north Italy or Greece might be slightly cooler end of June than say mainland Spain, Dubrovnik, Malta etc etc.

Lisbon / Cascais could fit the bill.

Letshavetea1 · 09/04/2025 18:56

Madeira is lovely at that time of the year. Or either northern Portugal or northern Spain.

AnnaBalfour · 09/04/2025 18:59

I second Northern Spain, especially if you love Spanish gastronomy.

Ayeayeaye25 · 09/04/2025 21:00

Thanks for the suggestions I will look into these and look up flight times, prices etc etc.

Another vote for Northern Spain. It is so nice there, and for those like me who hate being fried like a lobster, the climate is great. It can be overcast now and then, but overall at that time of year will be lovely.

Around San Sebastian is very nice with a great food scene and fabulous beach. It can be a bit on the expensive side, so Santander/Bilbao and surrounds might be a bit lighter on the pocket. The advantage of San Sebastian ( Donostia in Basque) is that you can take a train/bus or drive across the border to France to visit places like St. Jean de Luz and Bayonne/Biarritz.

I wouldn't chance Portugal. Lisbon and Caiscais were extremely hot by the end of May last year.

Where would you fly to if we are in Scotland and would we manage without hiring a car?

Cornwall!!

Lovely here at the moment. Probably be back to rain in June!

If you don't book anywhere and can see it'll be sunny weather than pop down here, can't beat it.

Thank you but I wouldn’t thank you for a long car journey with all the traffic jams down to either Cornwall or Devon from Scotland at the end of June.

Oohhh no.

Could fly to Newquay but all this is getting ££££ with need for hire car, too

Finland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden - Those all have nice cooler weather in the summer. You could even go in July and probably not be too hot

I am a bit biased though. I have been having a yen to visit the Scandinaian countries in the last couple years after a wonderful weekend in Denmark where I loved everything about it but didn't have time to cross 'the bridge' into Norway

Yes if we went in this country we would also want to take our elderly dog with us. It’s just a short break to celebrate a milestone birthday with my family of four. It doesn’t have to be for a week and definitely doesn’t need to be full on heat/fried. Just thought I would rather be away from home and all the cooking, cleaning and washing for a few days and be somewhere nice.

Yes, bit worried about the cost of feeding the greedy males in our family in Scandinavian countries and no cheap breaks to anywhere slightly lux, affordable and available for four of us coming up.

The Netherlands.

Very quick flights, good weather but not too hot. Public transport is amazing. Hire bikes, all very easy to get around Very easy to travel between cities. Den Hague is fabulous, Rotterdam very urban, Maastricht much more hilly. Beaches on the team from Den Hague are beautiful.

Quality hotels but also loads of bungalow parks.

We are here in Donastia San Sebastian today after touring France and Spain for a month. We spent most of the day on the beach.

Anyway have you considered driving - its a great road trip. Cross either Dieppe or into Santander/Bilbao.

Ayeayeaye25 · 10/04/2025 16:24

We have definitely ruled out driving.

Edinburgh to Copenhagen with Easyjet is not going to break the bank. Food in Denmark is very reasonable - not much more expensive than in the UK and there are plenty of inexpensive options in the grill bars and supermarkets. Just stay away from the fine dining places.

Copenhagen has the city sights and museums etc., the amusement parks (Tivoli and Bakken) and beaches. And "The Bridge" - which goes to Sweden rather than to Norway.

MrsMoastyToasty · 10/04/2025 17:05

The Hague. A city and beach holiday rolled into one.
It's about 3 hours drive from Calais or you could catch one of the ferries across (we did the overnight one from Harwich).

We love Italy, Croatia, Portugal and Spain and I have never been to Copenhagen would it feel special enough for a milestone birthday and can you recommend any hotels and I will look into it.

Thanks

Copenhagen has a really nice vibe. We stay with friends so I can't help with hotel recommendations, but a quick look at Booking.com suggests a range of options from about £1,200 for a week for a Travelodge-type place to £££ for something fancy and central. Public transport is excellent. Bikes are also an option - rental bikes are easy to find and the city and surrounding area is very cyclist-friendly.

Porto in northern Portugal
