Not selecting seats on plane... risky?

Flying with Wizzair. 2 parents 2 children. Not selected seats. Selecting seats for all 4 of us would cost us £80 total. Their policy is to seat a parents with a child...

We will obviously try to check in and get seats sorted at first opportunity. Happy to be split up as long as each of our children is with one of us. But what if the plane is full of people who have booked seats though and there's not 2 pairs of seats available for us? Would we not get to go on the flight?

On one hand, £80 is a lot of extra money. On the other hand, I don't want us to not get on the flight at all!

We haven't travelled much with children so not sure how risky this is. Would welcome opinions. Many thanks!

My husband and I often don’t book seats together especially on a short flight and on the way home when we don’t want to sit together and drink a glass of wine with holiday excitement 🤣 we have rarely not been seated together. That said if travelling with a child I think I would book to be safe.

We sometimes take last minute flights and I've had DS seated across the aisle with for e.g. myself and DD in a window/middle seat, or the child a row in front and to the side so airlines dont always rearrange (I am totally fine with this btw, even at a young age both kids happy to sit on their own). Surprisingly I think almost always someone has offered to swap (i never ask).

Tbh the ideal would be all the kids sat together (lord of the flies style) whilst I sit away from them with a vodka soda 🤣🤣
