Allocated sunbeds - Spain, Greece or portugal

Please can anyone recommend a hotel that allocates your sunbeds - in either Spain, Greece or Portugal preferably. We don't want to go to Turkey or Cyprus. Thank you!

Yes, both children prefer the swimming pool and don't like the beach - like many adults.

I know Cyprus very well - the Sunrise hotels and Alexander the Great allocate beds.

We stayed at a lovely hotel in Kos (not far outside Kos Town) called Aeleos Beach and every room had their own loungers in front of their area by the pool. But they only gave two per room so if you are also wanting them for your children that might be an issue.

Trust me, not every restaurant in Greece is 'lovely' Grin

Is this a thing? Hideous. I think I’ve only stayed in hotels with plenty of sunbeds. Or we hire a villa and have a lovely garden, sunbeds and pools to ourselves. Greece has loads of beautiful vilas. And the restaurants are incredible. You can eat out at a lovely restaurant every night. Or are you really set on a hotel?

Any recommendations for specific villas in Rhodes or Crete? I would prefer this setup but we’ve never been and I’m overwhelmed TBH, so have also been considering hotels/resorts like OP.

and OP, I totally get it about kids not liking the beach- mine do now but my oldest absolutely hated the sand when he was little!

Children don't like the beach! Really?

My DC always hated the beach! Haven't been to the beach with them for many years now.

I didn't realise this was a thing. Stayed various places in the algarve and I don’t recall anyone rushing for the sunbeds at 6am. Plenty of space for everyone and people certainly didnt “hog” sunbeds when they weren’t there. All very civilised.

Mine didn't either, they don't mind a bit of rock-pooling on a stony beach but hate sand.

I can’t imagine a worse holiday than it being ruined by something as simple as not getting a sunbed.

But then I find the idea of sitting by a pool for days on end incredibly boring. There’s something very irresponsible about package holidays knowing the facilities are inadequate.

What a helpful post. You must be so proud of your superiority complex 👏

OP this is the answer. Find somewhere nice and middle class. The type of place the men on the flight are wearing a Panama sunhat. Usually the Algarve, Tuscany or the Dordogne 😁

lol I know, but civilised comes with a price tag. We were actually thinking we need cheap sun. We need interconnecting rooms and civilised sunbed behaviour so that's ££££! Thank you for the hotel recommendations so far!

OP, in 2022 we stayed in Marea Suites in Croatia and they had a section with a pool where you could reserve your beds. There was also two other pools where the sunbeds were free for all but there were always free beds throughout the day.

CanteringAlong · 11/03/2025 15:37

thank you !

Hilton Sorrento. We went in August last year and had no issues at all getting loungers any time of day. So they weren’t reserved but there were no issues. I think because a lot of guests use it as a base for sightseeing so are out and about all day.

It’s not a massive resort type hotel. Great pool with restaurant and bar, a couple of other restaurants on site. We would hang out by the pool after breakfast (which we went to about 9.30am) and then wander into town for dinner.

They have family rooms (two bedrooms with sliding doors between and one bathroom) and interconnecting rooms. I think the interconnecting are better but more £££.

I sympathise with your predicament, OP. This is what you're up against: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1T6NMwS0nwmLEo3kng0s97mbtzEdeJmnO/view?usp=sharing 😂

For what it's worth, the only place we have ever seen reserved sunbeds is in the Maldives. In Europe there often isn't enough room around the pool to guarantee every hotel guest a place, plus many people go to the beach or on excursions.

Alexander the Great hotel Paphos
allocated sunbeds pool temperature fab. Lovely hotel have been lots of times.

2 suggestions for you OP

  1. swim up room. Usually comes with loungers outside your room and therefore you have loungers right by the pool.

  2. If your kids hate the beach, look for inland hotels, they’ll likely be cheaper and quieter so win win
