Allocated sunbeds - Spain, Greece or portugal

Please can anyone recommend a hotel that allocates your sunbeds - in either Spain, Greece or Portugal preferably. We don't want to go to Turkey or Cyprus. Thank you!

Is this a thing? Hideous. I think I’ve only stayed in hotels with plenty of sunbeds. Or we hire a villa and have a lovely garden, sunbeds and pools to ourselves. Greece has loads of beautiful vilas. And the restaurants are incredible. You can eat out at a lovely restaurant every night. Or are you really set on a hotel?

MissAmbrosia · 09/03/2025 21:33

The hotel I booked in Italy (Calabria) comes with sun beds included.

MissHollysDolly · 10/03/2025 06:04

Why can't you just find a normal hotel and then wake up at 6am to stake out your preferred sunbed each day, ending the holiday full of suppressed range when Nigel and Debbie next door in 3472 cotton on and wake up at 5.45 to gazump you?

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 10/03/2025 06:12

What happens if het allocated beds there in the sun or shade all (depending on preference), next to the toilets etc?

AlexandraJJ · 10/03/2025 06:18

I went to Tenerife a few weeks ago and they had an app where you reserve the beds you wanted so no messing about. It was an adults only hotel though if that’s any good to you? I’ve not experienced that before.

Stellaris22 · 10/03/2025 06:19

I can’t imagine a worse holiday than it being ruined by something as simple as not getting a sunbed.

But then I find the idea of sitting by a pool for days on end incredibly boring. There’s something very irresponsible about package holidays knowing the facilities are inadequate.

CanteringAlong · 10/03/2025 06:53

We are going with children - and they don't like beach and prefer the pool. We have only stayed in villas with them but would like to stay in a hotel now. When we did have hotel holidays before it was hard to get a sunbed by the pool. Cyprus has some hotels that allocate beds but we would like to stay somewhere else now. Going in peak season for summer holidays.

There’s always one.

Sorry, I don’t know, but hope you find somewhere. I too would be concerned about being allocated the ones with no shade or next to the toilets.

WonderingWanda · 10/03/2025 06:56

Just remove the towels of the people who haven't turned up for an hour to use their sunbeds. If they give you grief tell them the life guard did it.

Well I don’t want to sit round the pool all day either but when I do I would like a sun bed. It’s very frustrating that it becomes a battle.

TheSnowCanGoNow · 10/03/2025 07:28

We stayed at the Sunrise Beach in Cyprus (appreciate slightly outside your choice of locations)! But they allocate sunbeds and other hotels in their chain do too.

On your first day they tell you where you're allocated and if you're not happy with them, you tell them where you would like and they look at what's becoming available and when as guests are due to leave and so you get your chosen location, you may just have to wait a few days.

It worked perfectly for us with young kids as we could just come down when we were ready in the morning. It was also just across the walkway to the beach, so we would leave our things on the allocated sun beds and go across to the beach for an hour or so

Children don't like the beach! Really?

That sounds fab
I get stupidly concerned about availability of pool sunbeds mainly as I know DD loves one, I am happy in a white chair to read!

minnienono · 10/03/2025 07:36

Haven't had an issue in the canaries. Choose a hotel with lots of different pools spread over a large area. I also find it's easy to get loungers by the quieter unheated pools. I've always found plenty available when we finally make it down to the pool around 10.30/11

Mine didn't - gritty sand everywhere, pebbles in shoes, things crawling/swimming in the water, not so close to the room for the loo or the bar for cold drinks … not every child likes the beach and doesn’t deserve to be mocked for it, either.

minnienono · 10/03/2025 07:37

I wouldn't want to be rebooking, what happens if it the family from hell or worse still a Hen party next to you!!!

Bloody hell, I'm not mocking anybody. I'm just incredulous as I have honestly not come across a child who doesn't like the beach.

Wishboneswishes · 10/03/2025 07:42

Wow the holiday snobbery on this thread is wild!

Sorry OP I have no recommendations other than Cyprus or try popping into a travel agent if you have one nearby. I just wanted to give you an encouraging keep looking 👀 and ignore all the villa, beach etc unhelpful comments!

Littledog5 · 10/03/2025 07:43

I didn't know this was a thing! How does it work - do you get to pick a spot? I always choose somewhere that gets good shade

TeamGeriatric · 10/03/2025 07:47

It's the norm in places like the Maldives, though the sunbeds are on the beach with a big umbrella, but I've not seen it anywhere in Europe. It's a much better idea though than everyone getting up at 4am to reserve a sunbed by the pool.

Stellaris22 · 10/03/2025 07:50

I do still find it irresponsible to book more guests into hotels than there are adequate facilities for. Is it really a stress free break when it could be ruined by not getting a sunbed?

Skigal86 · 10/03/2025 08:03

We stayed at the Grecotel white palace in Crete last year and whilst they don’t prebook sunbeds, there was never an issue finding beds as long as you were down by about 10.30. We had a room which came with access to a pool and garden shared with about 10 rooms, each room had a double bed on their patio and there were a few scattered through the gardens.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 10/03/2025 08:08

They should get rid of all sunbeds and you just lay your towel out on the ground - like we did in the good ol' days.

In Skegness,

And Mablethorpe.

Do you feel suitably smug and superior now?

boringbelle · 10/03/2025 08:10

@saveforthat one of my children also hated the beach when young. Used to sit in the middle of the towel and cried if any sand got on it. I believe it's not that uncommon.
