Italy, just for 3 days

Anyone have any recommendations? I was looking at Verona but haven’t a clue really, we are looking to go in April, 4 adults. I actually wanted to go to Seville but it doesn’t seem that straightforward from Birmingham.

I've been to both, & Seville is far more interesting.

Even sticking with Italy, there are better places to visit.

Where in Italy have you enjoyed the most?

Where can you fly to easily? Verona or Venice would be nice for a weekend. Or Bologna. If Milan you can get to the Lakes relatively easily, or stay in the city and do a day trip to Varenna. If you can advise on potential airports....?

Birmingham ideally, seems daft to travel to another one if I don’t have to as I’m 10 minutes away but I know I am limiting my options then. I am taking my mom and wanted to sort it all myself and surprise her with somewhere but when you start looking you get lost in it all don’t you?

Verona is very small. You would only need a day.

LadyLucyWells · 25/02/2025 21:09

Florence but that’s because I’d love to go there. Venice is beautiful.

LadyLucyWells · 25/02/2025 21:10

I did Pompeii & Sorrento on a day trip once. Amazing! Would have loved a couple more days in Sorrento.

SwedishEdith · 25/02/2025 21:11

You can have a day at Lake Garda from Verona though. And Venice so could see quite a lot but also would be quite a busy trip. Bergamo is a good option but again, not sure it's three days.

Where can you fly from from your local airport?

RobinEllacotStrike · 25/02/2025 21:11

Naples& Pompeii

You can fly to Milan, Venice and Pisa I believe

Pisa gives you options. Half a day in Pisa then stay/go to Lucca, Siena and/or Florence.

unourrite · 25/02/2025 21:28

I agree either way @SwedishEdith
Fly to Pisa then plenty of nearby options

Pearl97 · 25/02/2025 21:32

I would suggest Sorrento and if you fancy Naples you could get the ferry for the day. Fly in to Pisa xxx

NormasArse · 25/02/2025 21:33

I’d fly to Milan, then get the train to Como. From there I’d explore the villages around the lake, by ferry.

I love the Italian lakes.

sciaticafanatica · 25/02/2025 21:35

I would go to Naples
Sorrento
Amalfi
Capri
Pompeii
Are all easy to get to and Naples is interesting and has lots to do

yoshiblue · 25/02/2025 21:40

Bologna is a great place for a short break, foodie capital of Italy many say.

CenotaphCorner · 25/02/2025 22:12

Definitely Sorrento.

cheseandme · 25/02/2025 22:16

Venice is magical .

EdgarAllenRaven · 25/02/2025 23:24

If you’ve never been to Venice it is absolutely extraordinary!

Loved Bologna, did a day trip by train to Venice whilst staying in Bologna.

Honeyroar · 25/02/2025 23:29

Verona is lovely. And it’s very easy to visit the lakes and Venice too. But it could be on the cool side in April. So going further south might be safer. Rome for three days would be great. Going even further south to do Sorrento, Pompeii and Vesuvius would work.
Pisa is pretty rubbish, but nearby Lucca and Firenze are good.

FreezingJane · 25/02/2025 23:38

Sorrento is incredible, but the Amalfi Coast is huge and there is a lot to see. It's also quite a way from Naples and Pompeii (which is a whole day trip on its own), with the addition of expensive transfers - unless you time flights correctly.

I've visited many times, but would strongly recommend a much longer visit, especially the first time.

Verona is beautiful, but is a bit meh. You can get great day trips into the mountains and to Lake Garda (definitely worth doing), but the city itself is quite small and not a lot to do at that time of year (Christmas markets are brilliant).

Venice, on the other hand, would be perfect. It's a great size for a short break, and a great time of year, as it'll be warm, but not too hot and crowded. It's a beautiful, charming city and an absolute must-do, in my eyes.

Fly to Pisa, half day there and onto Florence by train. Stay there and visit Lucca and Siena for a day each by train.

letshavetea · 26/02/2025 05:56

Try to go for at least four nights and then it’ll give you three clear days. I love Verona. Nice city with great shopping, a castle, coliseum, art gallery, cable car, restaurants etc. Day trip to Lake Garda.

BitOutOfPractice · 26/02/2025 06:03

Venice. Rome. Milan. Florence.

these are all top destinations for a reason.

I’d choose Bologna though. If only for the food.
