Anyone have any recommendations? I was looking at Verona but haven’t a clue really, we are looking to go in April, 4 adults. I actually wanted to go to Seville but it doesn’t seem that straightforward from Birmingham.

You can fly to Milan, Venice and Pisa I believe

I'd go to Venice rather than Verona. Verona is lovely but Venice is incredible. I think Venice in April would also be nicer than being there in the hottest summer months.

@FreezingJane Sorrento is £6 on the direct hourly train from Naples
Capri is £22 return on the ferry for the day.

Fly to Pisa and train to Cinque Terre, absolutely stunning

TeamGeriatric · 26/02/2025 06:51

I would do Venice of those 3 flight options as long as it's not Easter weekend. My second choice would be Pisa, Florence is beautiful but Venice is unique and obviously flying into Pisa you can squeeze in the leaning tower.

Fly to Pisa and take the train to Florence. I did 3 days Florence and while there is plenty I didn't see, I had an amazing time.

Fly to Pisa, half day there and onto Florence by train. Stay there and visit Lucca and Siena for a day each by train.

I agree - trains are so cheap in Italy 🇮🇹

We have just booked 4 days in Bologna and 4 days in Florence. Within that, we plan to do a day in Verona and a day in Sienna.

Don’t miss out on a day trip by train - Bologna to Venice, if you’ve never been.

It is, but it's a good couple of hours journey because of the transfers. There is the bus for €10pp (which goes directly from the airport to Sorrento station), but often flights from the UK land in the evening when this has finished.

A private car is about £200+ for a 45 minute drive 🥴

Neither ideal for a short break.

@happinesspersonified my son lived in Milan for 5 years so we went regularly. I'd suggest fly to Milan, spend a day in Milan and then either get a train to the lakes or to Florence for the remaining days. Trains in Italy are cheap and efficient. We have done both these trips and enjoyed both! We are actually going to Trieste and Venice this year as never been to either. Fly to Venice, train to Trieste, stay 2 nights, then train back to Venice and 2 nights there.
Enjoy whatever you decide as a fantastic country.

MissAmbrosia · 26/02/2025 10:40

From Milan you can get to Lake Como (Varenna and Bellagio) and Maggiore or do a day trip to Bergamo.

happinesspersonified · 26/02/2025 21:43

Thank you everyone for your suggestions, I’m looking at all of them, you’ve all been really helpful 😊

I've literally just booked an April trip to Italy.
Flying to Pisa
Quick exit to Cinque Terre for three days.
Train to Siena for 5 days. Day trips to Florence.
Back to Pisa for afternoon visit to the tower.
Fly home evening.

letshavetea · 27/02/2025 06:51

@happinesspersonified please come back and tell us what you booked! I’m off to Lucca - it’s a gorgeous place.
