Evening all,

Sick of seeing this grey sky..

Does anyone have any holidays planned yet?

Were off to Turkey for 2 weeks in August, I can not wait to feel some heat and spend some time together.

Out of curiosity and being bored how much does your holiday really cost you if you were to break every bit down.. clothes, spends, parking etc

Do people like complete new wardrobes for the family/couple for whole your there. I really enjoy having all new to wear.

Have a nice evening all

Iceland. Really looking forward to it! Do people really buy all new clothes to go on a holiday?! I can't believe that's a thing Confused

obsessedwithfreshbread · 08/02/2025 18:10

Booked so far for DH and myself -
June - Kos £450 each
Sept - Madeira £400 each
Xmas - Tenerife £1100 each

For each holiday additional costs approx
parking £100
kennels £200
Lounge outbound £30 each

I have a holiday wardrobe that just has pieces added when required and it mainly lives in the suitcase!

It's not a thing in our household either, the kids might get odd things because they've outgrown or in the case of youngest got holes in something, but I almost never buy new clothes for myself. I'd rather spend the money on the holiday itself.

Are those prices flights and accomodation only? The prices seem remarkably reasonable.

Turkey in July. Caribbean for Xmas.

whiteroseredrose · 09/02/2025 19:48

Vietnam! After over 2 years of planning. We're going in March.

I'm also 60 in the summer and would like to go somewhere including adult DC but don't know where yet.

whiteroseredrose · 09/02/2025 20:01

I forgot cost breakdown. This is for 18 nights.

Transport including train to London, flights, internal flight and overnight train - £2521.
Hotels £1569.
Admission to sites and a few organised trips £716.

Total for two people excluding food is £4,867.

Bohemond23 · 09/02/2025 20:12

Edinburgh on the sleeper with my 10 year old at Easter
Weekend in London - War of the Worlds
Weekend in Ludlow to see Faithless at the Castle July
Two weeks in Kos July/August
Weekend with girlfriends - maybe Palma
Husband and son will go to a friend’s caravan on Rhossilli for a week in August
Possibly Finland/Northern lights trip at the end of the year

Kos is about a third of the price of our usual Greece 2 weeks so we will end up at c12k for the year. No new clothes apart from for the 10 year old. Nothing needed.

orangetriangle · 09/02/2025 20:14

Cyprus end of June for 2 weeks
5 days in Sept in UK
away at Easter in UK Potters
and several Potters long weekenders end of Feb and Dec right before Xmas
next year 2 week cruise round the canaries in June and a week in August to Norwegian fjords on a cruise
no doubt we will have a couple of weekends away at Potter
The following year I would like to go to Wells north Norfolk in Sept then a holiday abroad early July time for 2 weeks
we are lucky in that we don't have a mortgage thanks to an inheritance and our children are grown up and we are both still working
we went on a cruise last year for our 30th wedding anniversary and bought lots of new bits so no new clothes needed
I will be 60 in 2029 and we are hoping to do a carribean cruise

laesosalt · 09/02/2025 20:15

Barcelona, Nice, Hawaii, Denmark and Portugal

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 09/02/2025 20:17

La Palma, Turkey then an Oregon and Washington road trip in summer

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 09/02/2025 20:35

I already know the next 2-3 years holidays 😂

TheCatCameBack112 · 09/02/2025 20:38

No plans. I'm moving house this year (new build) and don't want to fix anything until we have a moving date, plus I'm very likely to be spending all my holiday money on stamp duty and landscaping.

I'm hoping for a week in September, when the kids are back to school. maybe Lake Garda.

strawberryblue · 09/02/2025 20:39

Greece- Rhodes 6 days

Paris weekend

Milan weekend

Budapest weekend

Dubai 6 days

Butlins 4 days

Camping break 3 days

And a couple of hotel stays

Theduckquacked · 09/02/2025 23:32

Costa Rica for two weeks on April
Jordan for a week in September
Thailand for two weeks in November.

All solo trips and afforded because I am child free and work stupid amounts of overtime. Work hard, play hard!

Theduckquacked · 09/02/2025 23:34

Hoping for a short city break too with a friend. Either Rome, Copenhagen or Marrakech depending on when we go.

RipeApples · 10/02/2025 13:17

Greece at Easter
Florence in may
Croatia in Aug
Somewhere in Oct, not decided yet
A couple of UK city breaks in between.

orangetriangle · 10/02/2025 19:58

I have already planned though not necessarily booked holidays for 2027 and 2029 when I will be 60!!

Squiillionaire · 11/02/2025 00:47

Our plans are a bit up in the air at the moment. Usually by this time I have booked one or two weeks in Chamonix for walking but DS who is at Grande Ecole but doesn't know when he will finish for the summer and then has a work placement he doesn't know the dates for. We would normally have another holiday booked at last minute wherever we fancy. DH and I are also just getting used to being on our own and being able to have holidays just the two of us. Plus we are renovating our house which takes a lot of time. And DH won't fly. Good things - we are retired and not hyper rich but not really strapped for cash
All that said ideally -

A week or 10 days In May or DH and I cycling near La Rochelle. We had our first holiday on our alone in nearly 20 years last September. Cycling in Brittany. It was great.

Hopefully a week walking in Chamonix with DS. We have been going there for many years and he loves it there

DS will have his foreign university exchange starting from September in Spain so there will be a trip there.

A couple of weekends away perhaps.

It all depends on DS, weather, house renovations.

For clothes it sounds ridiculous but I do love to have something new to travel in. Not expensive and really ridiculous seeing as I'm usually in the car with DH and DS for hours and they are not exactly appreciative of what I'm wearing. It just feels good though. I have plenty of 'holiday' clothes. I prefer to buy something where I am staying if I buy anything else new.

Holiday costs are mainly accommodation. We live in France so it doesn't cost much to get there. We dont eat out much so only slightly more than our weekly shop at home. We are fortunate we don't have to keep an eye on money that much. For accommodation between 800-1200 euro for a week. Food shopping same as home. Petrol and tolls to drive or train tickets 2-300. Extras such as entrances to museums etc maximum 300 per week for 3 adults. 300 is only if we are in the mountains and get cable car passes. Paking I always find an apartment with parking and we never use the car when there unless we need to. Obviously the apartment is a bit more expensive because of that.

I think the extra cost for a week for 3 adults probably is an average of about 1500 euro in France.

I've had lots of holidays in Italy. We lived there for a few years. Slightly cheaper than France but not substantially so. However the quality of food and wine compared to price is much better. One of the best hotels I've ever stayed in was a one star in the Italian mountains. Smally family run hotel. It was about 100 euro for one night. 2 double rooms, breakfast and dinner. Amazing dinner, lovely breakfast, rooms basic but spotless. Lovely family owners who couldn't do enough for you.

A few holidays in Switzerland as well. So expensive. Everything. Even basic stuff in supermarkets. The costs seem to have risen enourmously in the last 6/7 years. It's weird though. Hotels are prices give you the conniptions but self catering is cheap. Some attractions are hyper expensive some are really cheap. Beautiful but odd place when it comes to holiday finance

Sorry that was long. I think I'm a bit bored as well OP. I have enjoyed reading everyone else's holiday plans and experiences.

Squiillionaire · 11/02/2025 00:53

I have to also apologise for it being riddled with errors. But you get the gist.

Sallyingon · 11/02/2025 14:50

Amalfi coast for a week in May
Paxos for a week in September.
Hope to come in at around 5k all in. It's just two of us now. Italy is half board but I'm worrying about costs spiralling as we want to do EVERYTHING! I
