Tenerife: which resort or hotel?

After recommendations for where to stay in Tenerife. Don't want noisy resorts with wild nightlife but don't want to be so isolated that there's nothing around.

Costa Adeje fit that bill last time I was there. Was a while back, but worth checking out.

MathsFiend · 12/11/2024 19:13

We stayed in the Barcelo in Golf de Sur. Close to the airport and some shops and restaurants within short walking distance. Taxis aren't that expensive if you wanted to go slightly further afield

Would recommend bahia principe at costa adeje. It isn't in a town but it's huge with lovely restaurants and bars and pools. Free shuttle to the town if you want it. Outside of the MITSIS chain in Greece, I think bahia is the best all inclusive chain

We’ve stayed there when it was called Sandos San Blas.
Nice but too expensive for us now 😔

Useless trivia: it was used as the location for the hostage drama Crossfire, starring Keely Hawes!

Ibero star costa adeje. 10 out of 10

Thank you to everyone who has commented. Has anyone stayed in the west or nothing of the island?

DH wants AI but I would go mad stuck in a resort so we are happy to go out for meals and drinks.

Adults only would be a bonus.

I have not stayed in the west or north but we hired a car and went around the west and north for day trips. It was lovely and we found some really nice spots. Costa Adeje had plenty of bars and restaurants, you don't need to spend the day in the hotel. We were half board so had breakfast and dinner at the hotel.

TwistlnMySobriety · 13/11/2024 21:13

Head north. Way better; proper green and cultural Tenerife not that soulless shite down south. Still get beaches and beer

Singleandproud · 13/11/2024 21:17

We stay at the Royal Sun Resort in Los Gigantes, we book trough TUI but you can do it independently.

It's up the top of the hill from the main town so very quiet but just a short walk or taxi down to the beach (black sand, you can see fish and snorkel too), a marina where boats leave for whale watching / kayak and paddle board hire too. There's major bus station too so easy to nip around the island under your own steam if you don't want a tour or to hire a car

Marylanza hotel

RosieLeaf · 13/11/2024 21:20

Palacio de Isora on the west coast is AI; there’s not much around but you can walk along the front to small local restaurants. The hotel has about 8 restaurants

Sii · 13/11/2024 21:24

Definitely not Costa Adeje! We stayed in the area this summer for the sold purpose of being close to the water park and honestly it was hell. Think along the lines of Benidorm.
We stayed in the North about 5 years ago and much preferred it

Pekkala · 13/11/2024 21:48

We're currently at the Barcelo Santiago in Los Gigantes. It's adults only and as a person who hates noise I'm loving it as they do not play annoying music at the pool areas and as it's an older demographic nobody has their phone music on speaker. Easy to get to independent bars/restaurants in town but the nightlife seems quiet (it could just be because it's not peak season). The views are spectacular

Costa Adeje varies a lot. The bit near Siam Park is not so nice but the El Duque end is much nicer

Singleandproud · 13/11/2024 21:52

@Pekkala The flat white stretch just before the cliffs at the top is the hotel I recommended too. Los Gigantes really is fab and the taller hotel at the front is another 18+ hotel

MyEarringsAreGreen · 13/11/2024 21:58

The north is much more Spanish and traditional- have stayed in Puerto de la Cruz and Garachico. Both lovely. Adeje/Playa de las Americas are package touristy places - they're ok if that's what you want.

JellicleCat · 13/11/2024 22:11

We stayed in Puerto de la Cruz. Definably town rather than resort and plenty of places to eat if you don't go AI.

Was about to recommend the same. Los Gigantes is a lovely low key resort.

Edited

That's a Tui blue hotel.

mitogoshigg · 13/11/2024 22:17

We stayed at Bahia principe which was ai but lots of Spanish guests, entertainment was fairly low key and finished early (bars shut too early Grin) which is a good compromise. Was on bus route so easy to get about

Wrinkleyoldbag · 13/11/2024 22:18

The Landmar hotels in Los Gigantes are lovely, fantastic food and rooms!
