Long haul destinations with good weather in July/Aug

By good weather I mean mostly hot and sunny… Don’t mind the odd shower or storm but looking for somewhere fairly reliable weather wise.

We love beaches, snorkeling, waterfalls, nice nature etc. Not keen on the Brits Abroad thing.

Ant recommendations?

California has some beautiful coastline, great nature (especially Yosemite and whale watching around Monterey).

SurabayaMas · 18/10/2024 15:23

How about the Karamunjawa islands off Semarang in Java or the in the birds head peninsula of Papua? Both within Indonesia.Very sea orientated, hardly any chance of bad weather and geared towards families in many of the diving/resort spots (conservatively muslim)without much bar culture at all.(But some in hotels if you need a drink or two.)

The northern half of Australia would be good. https://visitwa.com.au/regions-towns.html See the coral coast and north west. Also Northern Territory and top half of Queensland but I am not linking to those.

How much money have you got to throw at it?

DaveClifton · 18/10/2024 20:15

Sri Lanka - north east coast, with day trips inland to waterfalls/tea plantations/ancient cities etc.

Uga Bay in Passikudah is divine.

Twilightstarbright · 18/10/2024 20:16

Thailand- different parts have different weather

Bali

I've been to the Carribean (Cuba and Mexico) in August and the Maldives. All have been lovely despite being the rainy season. A short thunderstorm in a tropical climate where cocktails are freely available is nothing like a cold drizzly day here. Obviously the big risk is hurricanes but at these are far less likely Jul / Aug rather than Aug / Sept.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 19/10/2024 01:02

Does it have to be long haul? Most of southern France down inc Balearics would tick your boxes. Ibiza is my favourite but somewhere like Annecy would work.

Bjorkdidit · 19/10/2024 05:55

I agree with @boulevardofbrokendreamss, in July or August you don't need to travel long haul for good weather and its not necessarily more worthy or authentic than Europe.

After all, Bali is effectively Benidorm for Australians and there's likely somewhere in the Caribbean (Cancun? Dominican Republic? that's the same for the US market).

UpTheMagicFarawayTree · 19/10/2024 05:59

Mauritius is beautiful in August.

vegandspice · 19/10/2024 06:08

Vancouver has beautiful weather and is absolutely stunning .

Bali is a whole island of multiple resorts, towns, and villages. It is part of Indonesia.
Benidorm is one resort within mainland Spain

Bali is beautiful and has amazing activities, it does however have resorts that vary in appeal.

A basic understanding of where you’re heading is usually worthwhile.

I second this, have been twice in August. It's amazing! Plus Vancouver island and further up north to Whistler (which is more resorty tbh but has SERIOUSLY beautiful nature). Similarly doing the icefield parkway from Banff to Jasper in Alberta is absolutely breaking and like nothing else on earth!!

Malaysia - a lovely few islands on the east coast , city activities in KL , amazing food in Penang, or could go to Sabah on the Borneo side for snorkelling / animals.

Have you been? I understand there are nice bits to Benidorm too, but give me Bali over Benidorm any day of the week. Whilst there are parts of Bali that are a bit akin to Ibiza, but there also those stunning temples, the rice paddies and the divine food, we had a fab time there with a 1 year old and a 3.5 year old. We combined with some time in Java to see Borobudur and Prambanan. Great suggestion.

seenabeena · 19/10/2024 19:17

We went to California/Nevada/Arizona this July/August very dry heat 👍🏻

Saveitnotforme · 19/10/2024 19:22

Hoi An/Central Vietnam

we went this July. Gorgeous beaches, amazing food, cheap as chips. Not that many Brits. Highly recommend

wilsondavid · 21/10/2024 13:53

July/August is the most touristy time if you're looking to go to Spain. It's also pick season. You can easily go for snorkelling or beaches in Andalusia or Isla ormigas. I'd suggest visiting Selva de Montsec, Catalonia, for waterfalls like Cascasa del Salt de Llop. You can check more about Spain and its tourist destinations from this article: https://gowithguide.com/blog/tourism-in-spain-statistics-2024-your-in-depth-travel-guide-5686

Long haul destinations with good weather in July/Aug
ShanghaiDiva · 21/10/2024 14:06

I lived in China and dry area in July and August: Bali, Java, Central Vietnam, Borneo, Brunei, parts of Thailand.
my favourite was Hoi An, but can get very hot - over 40 when we were there one summer. Have also visited Hanoi in the summer- a couple of wet days but plenty to do inside - shopping, museums, galleries so it doesn’t really impact plans.

minipie · 22/10/2024 01:10

Good weather in Jul/Aug in:

Central Vietnam
Malaysia - east coast
Indonesia - most of it
Borneo
East Africa - Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Seychelles
Peru
Ecuador and Bolivia - maybe not everywhere
Canada
Lots of the USA
Bits of Brazil

Not sure why anyone would go
long haul in European summer months. Is there any particular reason you do?

Appleblum · 23/10/2024 00:36

Bali definitely. Borneo in malaysia. Maldives will be hot but rainy. Hokkaido in Japan. Perth in Australia isn't as warm, around 15 degrees, but very pleasant. I found vietnam and Thailand to be too hot in july/August.

We did because the Summer holiday was the only time we could go 2.5 weeks and wanted something different than Europe. Not everyone always wants to go for a beach holiday in the Med or the Alps.

In our case we didn't look for heat, still got a decent amount of it in Boston and Cape Cod,

TheSandgroper · 23/10/2024 06:55

Er, Perth gets the odd 15 degrees in Winter but more often it’s 20 degrees (even up to 26! www.bom.gov.au/products/IDW60901/IDW60901.94608.shtml) with bright sunshine and very nice indeed.

Raineradrion · 23/10/2024 07:07

California and northern half of Australia
