Is there such a thing in the UK? An upmarket CP, essentially? I am not aware of such a place, but DH is adamant it must exist! Grateful for tips.

If you can fly Auchrannie on Arran is lovely - has really nice ‘retreats.’ and lodges. Nice pools, restaurants and things for kids. Not as many activities as CP but far more classy.

Might be a bit out of your way but Portavadie marina?

Another vote for Family Friendly Hotels. Woolley Grange is great!

We went to Centre Parks in about 2000. We thought it was awful. Posh Butlins. The accommodation was very utilitarian. Not our cup of tea.

Agree, we went once around 2008 for a trip with extended family, we all thought it was awful.

I’m team DH as I despise Centre Parcs and cannot fathom why anyone thinks it’s upmarket. It’s the most awful holiday I’ve ever been on.

However, Chewton Glen and the likes suggested above are a great deal more expensive, if much more pleasant. We’ve ended up doing high quality holiday cottages and just going out for dinner and fun days out. Centre Parcs in high season seems like the third circle of hell for the price of a trip to the carribean.

Nanana1 · 20/08/2024 22:03

Yeah the CP restaurants/food are a bit rubbish. Moonfleet Manor and their sister hotels maybe? Not like CP though but kid friendly and good food

GrapeNerve · 20/08/2024 22:04

Babington House and Limewood are both great with kids. Not really comparable to CP though- not sure anywhere where the selling point is being in a giant Tupperware is going to be that luxurious.

WhitegreeNcandle · 20/08/2024 22:06

to those who mentioned Crieff hydro I remember it and Peebles in its heyday. I’d pay good money for it to be as classy as it was. Parents going down for silver service dinner whilst kids ran riot in the play area!!

sorry op - no ideas from me. I’ve been looking for what you have and the closest we’ve come is buying our own smart caravan, taking it to nice sites and buying a cheap camping spot at the nearby holiday park if the weather is pants and we want an indoor pool

AzureSheep · 20/08/2024 22:08

What suggestions has your DH come up with? Or has he not looked?

It sounds like he wants to be able to say he’s been on holiday with the kids, without actually having to take the kids on holiday. Perhaps your best option is centre parks with a nanny to look after the kids.

longdistanceclaraclara · 20/08/2024 22:09

I actually think the butlins hotel at Bognor is better than CP. sure this will be decisive!

Monket · 20/08/2024 22:09

Lots of good points and ideas - thank you!

For context we had to cancel our planned resort break in Portugal (yes, as per PP, we would definitely prefer a 5* resort abroad 😂 Who wouldn’t, eh?) as the baby - not mentioned so far - was very ill. Hence UK only option and I booked a last min CP trip to treat the kids, but DH is deeply unimpressed and we got into a debate as to whether a higher end option exists (I said not) or whether it needs to be a cottage/hotel plus local activities (which takes organisational bandwidth I simply didn’t have).

Surprised no one has said Soho Farmhouse. Surely that’s the main posh centre parcs??

Soho Farmhouse never struck me as a place to take children, although it does have a Teeny House and Teeny Barn.

Is it?

I've never been, I just read about it online occasionally.

yoshiblue · 20/08/2024 22:19

If you're SE England, is look at holiday Parcs in France. Yelloh Village has a good range of sites.

Proudtobeanortherner · 20/08/2024 22:22

Our children are older now but even then we used to go to one of the Luxury Family Hotels for breaks in the UK.

ZenNudist · 20/08/2024 22:24

Hof van saksen in the Netherlands. But you will still have to supervise your dc. Get the eurostar or sail/drive

Bluestone?

TizerorFizz · 20/08/2024 22:41

You can take DC to SoHo Farmhouse but swimming snd dining times are restricted. It’s not really ok for a week. Maybe a couple of nights and move on? The Fish near Broadway would be good but not sure if they have a pool. They have a beach though!

Potters but the Norfolk one

Tes, Potters is fabulous, for all ages. Think you're still expected to supervise v young kids in the pool though.

Never been but Ribby Hall claims to be a 5 star holiday village https://www.ribbyhall.co.uk/ in the North West

Crying with laughter I worked there and lived pretty much next door....nope!
