Eurocamp without car from London

MoominMumu · 01/08/2024 09:14

Circumstances have meant we are only now able to book a holiday for this summer. We’re in London, don’t own a car and would like to travel by train or plane to a cheap (£1.5k if at all possible) destination.

Eurocamp accommodation looks affordable but is there anywhere we can get to without a car? Not fussed where. France, Netherlands and Italy have come up in searches. Has anyone done this or know of any destinations reachable by rail or air plus rail?

Children aged from reception to tween, will be happy with a pool or beach. Thanks in advance!

MNHQ update: If you’re short on time, here’s a selection of the best Eurocamp sites that Mumsnetters are recommending on this thread:

😎 Bella Italia, Lake Garda, Italy

😎 La Chapelle, Roussillon, France

😎 La Grainetière, Île de Ré, France

😎 Domaine de la Yole, Languedoc, France

😎 Duinrell, Netherlands

😎 Camping Fabulous Village, Rome, Italy

😎 Internacional de Calonge, Costa Brava, Spain

😎 Ca'Savio, Adriatic, Italy

For more inspo, check out our guides to the best Eurocamp sites in France, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands, all featuring recommendations from Mumsnet users.

It’s not Eurocamp, but we’re looking at Hu Firenze in Florence because we also don’t want to drive. Looks like you can fly to Florence, get the tram to the camp site and then buses into the city and back.

samarrange · 01/08/2024 12:06

It would help a bit if you could say what that £1500 is meant to include (accommodation, B&B, full board, drinks, flight/trains), and for how many nights.

mitogoshi · 01/08/2024 12:22

What your total budget, how many people (and ages)? Last minute package might be cheaper and simpler than euro camp. They generally are only cheaper because you drive and self cater, without a car you won't be able to go to the cheap bigger supermarket even.

That said there's sites north of Venice which are train plus bus/cab from the airport, it's doable but standalone flight's might be prohibitively expensive

grassyknees · 01/08/2024 12:23

If you fly to La Rochelle and get a bus to the Ile de Re as a previous poster said, this campsite is great. Not Eurocamp but hire of one of their cabins comes in about €840. Bike hire on site, small shop there and supermarkets in easy reach by bike.

We have just visited Domaine De La Yole in Valras - south of France. The airfare for 3 adults and a child was around 900 (that was including extras such as extra luggage allowance, fast tracks, meet and greet parking (we flew from manchester).

The accommodation was about 350 including having to pay for end of stay cleaning (not included in France).

Trip was for 8 nights.

We flew into beziers and had to pay for transport to the camp - we chose a large taxi (we had a lot of luggage 🙈😂) - whixh was 45 euros each way but there is a bus service which costs about a euro per person each way).

BowTiesPinkTail · 01/08/2024 12:43

Should say we travelled.in June rather than summer hols

FanDann · 01/08/2024 15:40

There's definitely some within taxi distance from eg beziers and reus airports and I am sure many more.
Book a mobile home and then you don't need extra stuff.

FanDann · 01/08/2024 15:40

Girona airport too.

You can search by proximity to airport I am sure (well you used to be able to)

friendlycat · 01/08/2024 16:48

Beziers in France is near the airport and you can get a taxi. Has restaurant on site and beach bars. Little shop and bakery.

MoominMumu · 01/08/2024 19:39

Thanks for all the newer suggestions too. Will be sitting down with DH to investigate then all. So good to hear that something may be within reach.

Look at the eurocamps on lake Garda and fly into Verona

Invisimamma · 01/08/2024 20:01

Duinrell is 30mins from Schiphol airport.

Lemonsole · 01/08/2024 20:35

Italy - Fabulous Village near Rome. We've just done two weeks there without a car. Half an hour to the Coliseum by bus and train; the coast at Ostia is half an hour away by bus in the other direction. Fly to Rome. Great pools on site (you need to cool off after a long hot day sightseeing) and a decent enough on-site supermarket.

Lemonsole · 01/08/2024 20:36

The Lake Garda sites are easy by plane to Verona; easy to get around by train eg to visit Verona itself and Venice.

nomoresnacks · 01/08/2024 20:42

We did international de Calonge without a car- flew to girona - 20 min transfer - loads of pools / slides / sports pitches and entertainment

nomoresnacks · 01/08/2024 20:44

Its next to Cala gogo and you can use both sites

Lisbeth50 · 01/08/2024 20:45

Duinrell, Netherlands - train or fly to Amsterdam then train or taxi. Site is in the town, everything walkable and great public transport.

Youvebeenmuffled · 01/08/2024 20:45

Duinrell is easy without a car, we booked a lodge so just needed to food shop once there - all utensils/equipment were included

The Rome Hu ones are also doable without a car.

Duinrell in Holland is very doable but unless you can go first week of Sept will be over budget.

Bezier in france and Venice eurocamps

Yes we've done vias plage which near bezier.

We has a bar but it's doable without one.

Xmasbaby11 · 01/08/2024 20:54

We are going to Eurocamp near Beziers, without a car. It looks like a great site and plenty of stuff within walking distance or by bus.

We looked at a lot of destinations and a key issue was matching dates of flights with availablility of accommodation, also the cost of flights to some destinations. This was the best for us. Flying from Manchester though so not as many options.

TheThreeHeadedBeast · 02/08/2024 10:43

We went Camping Ca'Savio with Eurocamp 7 years ago. Large site with pool and beach. Decent shop on site with it's own Prosecco...
Can hire bikes on site cheaply.
Local supermarket within walking distance, but bikes mean you don't have to carry everything back.
Short bus ride to the ferry for Venice. Can use public transport from Marco Polo airport.
We did this as part of a longer holiday. 1 night in Venice, 6 nights at the campsite, then train to Florence and stayed in a hotel for a week. Fantastic holiday

We've done eurocamp by plane - but staying in a caravan.

Eurocamp often share there sites with Yelloh and canvas, so worth comparing the other brands if you find a place that works for you.
