Do these holidays sound excessive to you?

For a couple in their 20s who don’t own a house yet.

Holiday 1: 7 nights greece (free accom)
Holiday 2: 10 nights barbados
Holiday 3: 7 nights cornwall (free accom)
Holiday 4: 7 nights mexico
Holiday 5: 3 nights new york

Take home pay of £6,500 a month

If they want to piss their money up the wall on that many holidays a year it's up to them I suppose.

It’s clearly more than most people, but if they can afford it then fair enough.

However, if their parents are subsidising them by having them live at home for low/no rent or if they are expecting parents to give them a house deposit then they are taking the piss.

That's an amazing holiday allowance - 35 days?

They don't own somewhere yet? One day they will wish they had saved more of their money, but that's 20-somethings for you.

If they are still living cheaply at home with family they are being very foolish in not saving all that money, and if they are renting, they are idiots.

Loads of those days could be Saturdays and Sundays/ bank holidays

The distance of the flights is excessive, not the number of holidays.

Good for them. I wish I'd enjoyed myself a bit more before being saddled with a mortgage and having kids.

We are couple in our 50s with 2 teenage children and this year will do at least as many holidays as those in the OP

Holidays are what we spend out disposable income on.

Good on them I say. Kids are so bloody lucky these days that travelling is an opportunity for so many. My DCs are both well travelled and I wish I'd had the chance when I was in my early 20s.

In a year? Yes that's excessive to me but it's up to them.

So everyone in my industry including myself should give up our jobs “off our own volition” to avoid a clamp down on flights?

There are months I need to take 8 flights. I doubt me and thousands of people across any given country are prepared to become jobless.

Nor am I prepared to judge someone who flies as much as me for whatever reason they choose.

Sounds amazing I'm jealous. As long as they can afford it, who cares. Also they may be staying in cheap accommodation for all you know so it might not even cost that much

Well if they don't have children and don't intend to they will be off-setting their carbon footprint with that choice

Not, we prioritise holidays and time together rather than other luxuries. Spending quite a bit this year

Before we had children, we had been to Australia, Barbados, Dominican Republic, the Maldives, Egypt and Kenya. Never too many holidays.

Its their choice unless they’re living with you rent free to save for a deposit.

We usually only take one big holiday a year which is often long haul and for 2 weeks. I’d like to do a short European trip too but at the moment we tend to pool all the money towards a big luxury one as DC are young and travelling is hard.

If I took more than 2 holidays a year, I would probably get some comments of disapproval and I feel like 2 actually would be enough to be honest.

Sounds fine unless they are relying on parents for cheap accomodation and both parties are not happy with their arrangement (I have a friend whose grown up son lives with her but spends a few months per year on holiday, she’s happy with this as the house is just hers quite a bit and he pays her rent to stay regardless of how much he’s there).

Most 20 somethings don't own houses. If they don't make the most of their leisure time and relative financial freedom now, when will they?

It's a lot of holidays for sure. But no-one knows for sure they will look back on their lives and thing - dang, wish I hadn't gone to the Caribbean for that amazing holiday when I was 22, I could have paid the mortgage off 3 months earlier if I'd stayed home.

They may spend their 30s and 40s in the grind with mortgage payments and parenting young kids, their 50s caring for elderly parents and their 60s juggling work, grandparent duties and potential ill health.

I'm all for financial planning and minimising environmental impact but I do think that young people should be able to enjoy themselves.

One day they will wish they had saved more of their money

I don't regret a single penny I have spent on travelling.

Travelling, sure. But that's different from holidays.
