Disneyland Paris this August?!

crazypiglady · 27/06/2024 10:22

We’ve never been before, desperate to go, money is tight so trying to work out which week over August would be best (work in education so have to go over the summer break). Is anyone going this summer? And hints or tips for a newbie?? Is it cheaper to fly or take Eurostar? Is Eurostar easy to navigate? (I’ll be on my own with 2 kids). We are thinking the last weekend in August before school starts again.

I’d fly to maximise the time there and end of August is usually better but it will likely to be very busy regardless.

AnnaMagnani · 27/06/2024 10:30

Will it not be £££ because of the Olympics and unbearably hot?

Emmacb82 · 27/06/2024 10:34

I think I would wait and go in October half term. It could potentially be very hot in august and with the Olympics this year that people will be avoiding even the end of august is likely to be very busy. On the other hand, I think it’s pretty much busy whatever time you choose to go, but I would prefer cooler weather although you risk rain later in the year. I visited in feb half term and although busy, I didn’t find it overwhelmingly so. And if you stay onsite and make use of the magic hour that helps. I want to trt for October half term next year as it will be Halloween as well 🎃

Gabby82 · 27/06/2024 10:44

We drove. Best way to get to the parks is by car and it's only a 3 hour drive from the tunnel.

crazypiglady · 27/06/2024 10:52

Just asking for advice from people who have been there in August

OP posts:
GeneralMusings · 27/06/2024 10:54

If money is tight its possibly the most expensive time to go (other than at Xmas)

I'd consider feb half term or another half term as while still expensive wont be as busy and expensive as the summer.

We drove - was fantastic (although we did take out of school in the end and it was cheaper to stay on site than off site at this time!)

crazypiglady · 27/06/2024 10:54

Thank you I know it will be busy, working in education you have to accept that everyone else with kids is forced to go on holiday at the same time. So that’s not an issue for us.

With the Olympics, are crowds expected to be high in DLP? I presumed people would be visiting for that & therefore not in the parks so much?

OP posts:
crazypiglady · 27/06/2024 10:57

Thank you, is flying faster than Eurostar? I’m nervous of both to be honest as I’ll be in my own with kids, luggage etc so looking for the simplest way to get there to minimise stress!

We went last week of August last year. It was busy but definitely not silly. The bonus is that at the point, some of the other European countries will have already gone back to school by then.

We opted to drive and stay in Disney accommodation.

BC2603 · 27/06/2024 11:10

You can’t get the Eurostar direct any more so it’s a train to Lille and then change. The benefit is you have a little more flexibility on luggage. The flight is super easy. Very quick into Charles de Gaulle and then the TGV to Marne le Valle which takes about 11 minutes. The TGV isn’t the cheapest train though but flights are reasonable

It would be a case of pricing both options up I think as they vary depending on the date.

We are going in August- was about £2200 for four nights for 2 adults and a child. This by train

Hi OP, I’ve been to DLP not in August (we went in April). I have however been in Paris in August and I don’t recommend it! It’s scorching and you do get a lot of steps in at DLP.

DLP will be incredibly busy.

Join Disneyland Paris for Brits on Facebook, they’ll be better able to answer questions on travel.

we flew. We had good flight times and it worked out about the same as Eurostar, you’re looking at about. 3 hours drive from Calais to DLP.

The weather app says 25 for August, is that not right?

No last year it was about 28 felt like 35!

So if you fly you then get a train? Is there a bus to the parks like they used to have in Florida?

Oof! I can cope with up to 30 but over that is HOT!

When we went we got the Eurostar Disneyland train from Ashford, drops you off right inside the park, it was fantastic

AirportObs · 27/06/2024 12:25

The train doesn’t go to the park anymore.
you can get a train or a taxi from CDG, we got a taxi €80 each way and dropped us right outside our hotel. Other option is an Uber or a Bolt.

Yes you still have to travel from the airport. You can get a transfer bus too I think but the train is so quick. You don’t need a bus to get from the local train station as it’s literally at the Parks. The hotels (Disney and Disney partner ones) have shuttle busses to take you to the parks and back in the morning and evening. Or you can just walk through Disney Village (name may have changed as they are remodelling it) which is shops and restaurants back to your hotel.

Disneyland Hotel is on top of Magic Kingdom.
Marvel is about a 10 min walk, Newport Bay 15. Sequoia lodge is about 15ish. Cheyenne and Santa Fe are 20-25 mins walk away.

MojoDojoCasaHouse · 27/06/2024 14:41

We went end of August a few years back, our bank holiday weekend. It was 35 degrees but there are water fountains so take bottles with you. Crowds were bearable. We stayed off site and bought day tickets. Mine aren’t early risers so magic hours a waste for us. If you stay late the rides get quieter before Disney dreams.

For the August visit we stayed in a mobile on a campsite. Very cheap and had out door pool. We have also flown and done Eurostar and stayed in a SC apartment near DLP. We prefer separate bedrooms and save on food by buying at the hypermarket one train stop from DLP. It’s never going to be cheap though.

Eurostar was easier than flying in my opinion. Cheaper as well if you book early.

Btrsun10 · 27/06/2024 14:54

I've been a few times in August. A couple of times it was unbearably hot which zapped the life out of us.
It was also very crowded. Wait times for the most popular rides over an hour, less popular about 45 mins.
Flew and stayed in the hotels nearby - not Disney hotels.
Train or taxi from airport to hotel.
Shuttle bus from hotels to the parks......also very crowded and a free for all with adults pushing kids out of the way to get on. We actually found it better to walk in and get the shuttle back.
I've been loads to Disney Paris. Best time to go is Tuesday to Thursday in November. European kids are in school as are ours.
I realise that this probably is not helpful as it does not suit you.

August is BOILING in Paris, I really wouldn't recommend, plus the park is closing early during the Olympics, so something else to bear in mind? https://www.mickeynews.com/parknews/disneyland-paris-adjusts-operating-hours-for-paris-2024-olympics/#:~:text=Disneyland%20Paris%20is%20gearing%20up,the%20latest%20starting%20July%2029.

Didn’t realise the parks are closing early
