TUI flight no show rules

Hi, I’m flying to Spain next week with my child & wife, my mother also booked to come with her then partner, since booking they have parted ways & he will now no longer be coming, the price to cancel him off the holiday was ridiculous, the holiday is all paid in full, does anyone know what will happen if he just doesn’t show up at the airport check in desk. My mother is the main/lead passenger on the booking. What if we said he became ill the day before or somthing , has anyone else ever been in this situation. Thank you
Gareth

has he paid anything towards the holiday?

Gazzab86 · 11/06/2024 17:33

I think he must have as my mother wouldn’t have paid for it all,I’m not sure if it was 50/50 split, I haven't asked. They don’t want anything back from the holiday, just don’t want to have to pay more money on top of the fully paid holiday (as I believe you do if you cancel a traveler from the booking). To put it in another scenario it’s like if a couple book a trip away & one of them can’t make it due to a last minute work commitment do they just not show up and the one traveler just goes alone without having to pay extra because the other person can no longer make it.

She’ll have to check tui’s t&cs but I’m pretty sure they have a sliding scale of financial commitment in relation to cancellation. Something like if you cancel (for no particular reason) 6 months before the leaving date you’re only liable to pay 50% of the cost but I’d imagine at this late stage, whether he turns up or not she, as the lead passenger, will still be liable for 100% of the cost.
nothing will happen at the airport - it’s nothing to do with them.

user1471522343 · 11/06/2024 17:42

Sorry - just read it’s all paid up. Nothing will happen.

Georgyporky · 11/06/2024 17:47

Re-read the T&Cs.

I suspect the cancellation costs apply when seeking a refund, which is not the case.

Greentreesandbushes · 11/06/2024 17:49

As long as they are not lead passenger just don’t check them in

MurielThrockmorton · 11/06/2024 18:40

I asked Jet2 about this as DD and I may not be able to go on holiday because of family illness, they just said they'd send a letter of no-show once the holiday period ended and that's that. Presume Tui is the same. If we cancel, they'll send the letter straight away but too late for a refund.

itsallabitofamystery · 11/06/2024 18:52

Nothing will happen. I've booked my mum on many times as the under-occupancy charges are sometimes more than the price of the 4th person. I then just say something has come up and it's just a no show. I've never been asked any details. In fact, they were once relieved as the flight was overbooked!

Gazzab86 · 12/06/2024 08:16

Thank you all for your responses, the information I’m getting seems like a relief. So with regards to checking in, the flight is Monday & online check in opens on Saturday, do you think it would be better to check him in to make it look like he’s still going up until ‘the reason for not being able to go’ or to just not check him in at all. Thank you

itsallabitofamystery · 12/06/2024 09:52

Don't check him in as it causes issues with the luggage. They will be expecting his luggage, and luggage cannot travel without a person. I don't do the online check-in at all, just wait until the airport. You can still usually put in the API without checking in.

notimagain · 12/06/2024 12:16

Quite a few people check in on-line with the declared intention of traveling with suitcases and then don’t travel (e.g. last minute illness, stuck in a traffic jam, etc etc)….if they are not there by the time the flight closes it’s not a big deal for the airline.

Reconciling bags because a checked-in passenger fails to travel only starts to become an issue if their luggage has actually physically been handed over at the check-in desk and then they disappear (it happens).

As far as the OP goes I don’t think it matters one way or the other if the OP checks the none-flyer in, though as someone mentioned upthread the airline might appreciate a heads up on the day if the flight is overbooked,

roggalogs · 17/05/2025 09:49

Can I ask what happened with this in the end as we’re in a similar position. Did you check him in online?

Gazzab86 · 17/05/2025 17:40

Hey, there were no issues at check in. They never questioned anything, we just said there was supposed to be another passenger but they couldn’t make it, just thought we would inform them incase they waited for him to check in. But all was fine. It’s already paid for so I think they are not too bothered.

Ahhh amazing!! Thank you for the update! I can sleep a little easier now 😂 did you check everybody else in online or did you just check in at the airport?

Gazzab86 · 19/05/2025 19:46

😂 I’m glad, Ahh I’m sorry I can’t tenner,my mother can’t remember either if she did the online check in or not, they were on their own separate booking for just them two. She seems to think she checked herself in online but not him. But can’t say for sure . Sorry that’s the best I can remember. Sure it will be fine for you .

Nothing will cost money I travelled solo after splitting with partner just stated at booking in he wasn't travelling. If you have transfers state original number of passengers or it will hold up the bus whilst they look for the missing one lol (my error) and state at hotel for tourist tax non attendance then you won't be charged for him. Hope this helps ..happy holidays

Hey, I wondered if you had any issues @ hotel check in due to not having the extra person there as I’ve been reading that sometimes hotels will get funny for the rooms being under occupied?

I had paid for the other person they just didn't travel so wasn't under occupied but on check in the hotel expressed they would not charge for him as he wasn't there.

mrssunshinexxx · 04/06/2025 21:34

Nothing will happen but tell them so they aren’t calling there name for ages and delaying the flight likewise at the other side of on a coach transfer

Just don't check him in. He will just be marked as a no show on the day.

I would guess that only applies if you want a discount for being single. In this case they have paid for 2 people already and only 1 using room.

Thanks, yes I have paid in full for the Tui package booking which includes flights and hotel but just wasn’t sure if they would dispute the other person not being there.
