Do you like going to the same place on holiday?

When I was younger I used to love seeing different places and travelled (not extensively) and worked abroad.. However, now I am happy to go to the same place on holiday.
I think because me and DH both have stressful jobs, I like to go somewhere I can wind down straight away.
My friend thinks I am boring and missing out but I have no desire to see other places.
I once went on a weekend with her and was exhausted as she had a packed timetable.
I was the same when younger but now menopause has hit I can't be bothered.
We have a family apartment in a lovely rural area of Spain and just go there now. Same place in the UK too.
Occasionally it is nice to go somewhere new but as I get older I just want to relax on holiday.

It depends. I've been to the Isle of Wight 3 times but have stayed in different parts...Rome a few times, but again, some years apart and to see different things. Next year I'm planning a railway trip via Amsterdam (where I had a misspent youth) to Germany and possibly beyond, to see how things have changed.

But I couldn't return to the same resort or holiday place year after year. I always need to find something new to see.

The iow is tiny! I get going to a huge city twice but the IOW doesn’t have much variety!

Two autistic children with very fixed views on what a holiday involves mean we have now been to the same hotel 20 times (twice a year for ten years, roughly). It’s in an area with a lot of outdoor activities so there are new things to do, but left to my own devices I wouldn’t be doing it. Saying that, some of the staff have known our kids all their lives, it’s a totally relaxing place to be for the whole family from the first minute we arrive, we get a few small privileges as such longstanding guests, and it’s a lovely hotel by any standards. I do find it intensely embarrassing when talking to other guests if they find out just how many repeat visits we’ve made though.

Oh, can some of ypu reveal where you go back to every year? Especially if its short haul. Thanks.

I go back to Venice because it's such a unique place in how it's set up that it feels like a different destination in different seasons. It truly fascinates me. It's only a couple of hours flight from the UK, there are often cheap deals and there are loads and loads of hotels there. Plus shit tonnes of culture - every house in Venice is a palace! All of them! Once I realised that there was no stopping me. I'm going to keep going back there, repeatedly, till I die.

We've just come back from a holiday which is 'the same' as we've done a couple of times before - but, being a week on a boat on the Broads it was different each time.

I go back to Greece every year but always do different islands.

Every time, I say “I’m coming back here” and when it comes to booking the next trip, I choose a different island.

Like I’m in Crete now staying at the most perfect hotel and having a wonderful time, and I am mentally plotting a return… that won’t happen (anytime soon).

Just love Greece 💜

Depends on interests for me. I love architecture and the countryside. Awesome views etc if possible. Therefore we travel and rarely go back. Just done a wildlife holiday in Southern Africa - first time in 10 years. It used to be a regular holiday for us. However we’ve travelled to lots of places now to see wildlife but mix it up with cities and culture. Same place is a definite no. Too much else to see and do. Too little time to do it in!

Yes.

We go to Disney World quite frequently.

Once every 2 or 3 years generally. We love it, know the hotels are great, know we'll all have fun.

We do try different hotels most times and there's usually a new ride or show and always lots of restaurants we've not been to before, so each trip isn't a carbon copy of the last. Suits us well to have guaranteed sun, time at the pools/waterpark and to have the theme parks and shows and shopping.

Then the other years for our big holidays we'll visit places we've not been to before.

We do generally have a Center Parcs weekend that's exactly the same as the year before each year though.

I think I have fun by seeing new things - different cultures, nature and history. I don’t see fun as a theme park. Fortunately dc didn’t either. I think we like so many things, it makes it hard to choose holidays! So many places to explore. Plus the good restaurants!

We go to the same place at least once a year, sometimes twice. It’s perfect for us and we would run the risk of being disappointed elsewhere. Besides it’s very well set up for our current needs, there is time to go explore the world
if we choose to when our daughter is older. To be honest though I did the whole backpacking and travelling around thing when I was in my teens and twenties, I’m happy to be more laid back now.
