Hiya,

We've gradually been building our 5 year old (autistic/ADHD) up in terms of holidays and starting to think about looking at Europe now, ideally 2 hour plane radius, up to 3 at a push. Eurostar/le tunnel and a drive is also a up for consideration (driving would make things much easier in terms of safe foods etc!).

Any recommendations for destinations? Happy to consider anything, he enjoys a city break but his happy place is the beach 💙

Another one saying jet2 very good - lovely staff. We went to Madeira - longer than you're looking for but beautiful, quiet and very lovely locals.

I totally recommend Duinrell we went last August and drove from Norwich Norfolk booked everything through europarks who were great ferry and accommodation was booked through them it was a brilliant experience with my two boys both ASD 14 & 16 self catering all the local area is lovely the town next to it is walking distance and brilliant shops and no language barrier whatsoever to worry about. and the ice cream parlours were well worth the visit. onsite supermarket and takeaways like pizza and burgers and chicken ect but most things were reasonably priced food wise as for the theme park it was great we were in every day when we wanted as part of staying there its free entry just the waterpark costs extra but you get discount tickets.

as for safety it was great i never felt like my kids were unsafe anywhere around the campsite or theme park

How about a cruise? We went on one with our daughter before we had even really considered that she might be autistic, but she enjoyed it. We are booked on another this year.

We found the process of arriving at the port, getting on the boat and settling in much quicker and easier than an airport, although we are yet to attempt an airport with our daughter. There were plenty of food options on the boat, and staff were accommodating of dietary needs. We went with P&O and were able to take some food and drink on with us. As a family, we enjoyed being able to visit a new place at each stop, and the fact that you just don't have to think about much - all food and transport is laid on and you can do as much or as little as you like. You can also take plenty of luggage with you.

We went around Scandinavia and really enjoyed it.

Just seen this pop back up in my "watched" threads. Thank you everyone for your input!

Since I posted we have booked a short break involving domestic flights (at great cost, could have driven it for a fraction of the price!) but thought we'd see how it goes and then plan something slightly further afield if a success.
