Anyone any recommendations for a bag suitable for flying with ryanair? The bag needs to fit under the seat and be 40x20x25.

Also any tips on how to pack light would be great as I'm a terrible overpacker 😂 going to Spain for 4 days and will have access to a washing machine.

This is what we use, they fit under a seat perfectly…and packing cubes!

Just returned from a trip with our cabin max bags. For the first time ever I saw Ryanair using the size checker!

jolenethea · 28/04/2024 09:06

I have a cabin max from Amazon too

I’ve heard a lot of this recently too, I’ve never been checked (but also never taken the piss with the size of my bag) but have checked that bag in their sizer in the airport and it’s ok. I’m going away in a couple of weeks for a week with that bag-thankfully there’s a washing machine where we’re staying 😂

Decorhate · 28/04/2024 09:20

Yes buy one specifically designed to be the correct size or measure carefully or don’t over fill so you can squash it in if challenged.

They were checking when we flew at Easter, first time in ages. Dh had a small backpack but had to remove a few things & give them to me…

Small kit bags are often the right size.

putyourtitaway · 28/04/2024 09:44

I flew recently and had only a small cabin bag and took a Nike gym bag, it was fine

They rarely check the size of small cabin bags anyway (frequent flyer) a bike gym bag or a rucksack will be fine.

Longma · 28/04/2024 10:51

For my small under seat bag I used the standard sized Fjällräven Kånken rucksack.

I think it's technically a fraction over size in one dimension but it's obviously a soft bag so could switch into the sizer if needed. However, no one battered an eye lid at it.

The only thing we found when we have flowed with RA recently was that they were. Incredibly strict about what could go in the overhead locker. Some people tried putting their small bags, jackets and duty free in overhead lockers and were asked to remove them and put them under their seats.

Dd flew with them last weekend and just had a normal backpack - she didn't measure it. No one questioned it and again they were strict with the overhead locker use,

Take a travel clothes line. Twisted elastic so no need for pegs. Tiny to pack and makes drying stuff once washed much easier. Also take washing leaves. I take a few in a ziplock bag when I travel. Made it possible to spend a month crossing Canada with carry on only.

Best I've found is a large sainsbury bag for life! It's light and good to the cm

Of course, just bring a roll of duct tape to fashion some backpack straps 😂

Anyways, wear trousers, trainers and a jacket (and scarf/hat), then pack 1 pair flats, a few undies, 1 vest for sleeping, 3-4 tops rolled up, and 1 extra bottom rolled up, 1 swimsuit.

Decant toiletries into containers that hold the number of uses you need. Any medications, cut the foil packs to what you need plus a few extras.

While boarding, take off your jacket and carry it wrapped around a small crossbody. Kindle can go in a pocket. All you need!

And yes buy one of the specific backpacks on Amazon. I got a neutral black one so I can use it for errands etc at home too.

Jeezitneverends · 28/04/2024 13:44

I’ve actually just ordered a couple of the correctly sized backpacks, I’m heating many tales of the checking this year, and I would be that person who’d be made an example of!

This is how I plan on dressing to travel 🤣

Possibly TMI but I ruined a favourite shirt by sweating so much under my easyJet layers Blush

Just returned from a trip with our cabin max bags. For the first time ever I saw Ryanair using the size checker!

One was a bag that although looked the correct depth/height was about a foot longer.
The other was a family of three. All had small backpacks but an additional two large rucksacks. They looked really unhappy. I think the gate fines are £60 per bag.

We have the Cabin Max Manhattan - its great, very spacious, easy to access and seems hardwearing. We have had it several years and showing no signs of wear and tear.

I went for a week's holiday to La Rochelle using this backpack, and that included a load of swimming gear - tight, but certainly doable.
Would always prefer to just put a suitcase in the hold tbh, but certainly able to do a week away with hand luggage 😁

From personal experience I can unfortunately inform you that duct tape counts as an offensive weapon in handluggage and gets confiscated. My cunning plan to tape down the pilot to bore him about my packing cube strategy was foiled

justalitteon · 28/04/2024 18:09

I use 2 small packing cubes and roll clothes, then pop into a slouchy tote style handbag which then doubles as a beach bag. Decant toiletries into small bottles or sample sachets and perfume samples. Also use all In one make up palette ie sculpted by Aimee do one. Travel in tunic style dress, leggings, cardigan and use a sarong as a scarf plus trainers or converse.
Small crossbody bag that can be popped in top of tote bag( this just looks like your handbag.I like to take some books so buy a WH Smith bag in advance and pop my charity shop books in there, leave at accommodation. Buy shampoo and shower gel, deo there. Conditioner I take 2 sachets of intestine conditioner so it lasts a week.
Try and choose accommodation with a washing machine , hairdryer and beach towel provided. If not rinse through by hand and take extra sarong or Turkish towel as a beach towel.
We've travelled 3 times now to the canaries doing this, it's actually really liberating and means more trips away!

Toomanysquishmallows · 28/04/2024 18:15

I got a cheap Ryanair suitable bag , from Amazon last year.

Fartooold · 28/04/2024 18:16

I took a shampoo/conditioner bar with me, used it as soap too😁
Took powder toothpaste.
Was no bother for a week😄
