Does this place exist?

I’m looking for somewhere to go in late July but am stumped so asking for inspiration. We’re a family of 4 - me DH DS (20) and DD (17). Budget is £8-9K ideally for two weeks. We love Greece but went last year and the last couple of days got up to just below 40 🥵. We like:
villas with private pool or hotel
high 20s to low 30s temperature
preferably beach/lake nearby
happy to drive abroad
nice places to eat in the evening, bit of a bar, but no banging nightclubs.
not France - love it but been a lot 😊.
sightseeing would be good but not a must, lovely scenery more of a pull for this holiday.

Does this holiday exist? I keep coming up with places that will likely be too hot/risk of rain and also not sure if the budget is realistic.

Thanks in advance.

Crete? Lots of villas with private pools.

Summerholpls · 10/04/2024 13:32

Croatia? Balearics?

penguin112 · 10/04/2024 13:35

The Canaries are perfect for this sort of thing. The temperature doesn't reach the heights of mainland Spain/Greece but is fairly consistent

Baxdream · 10/04/2024 13:35

Lake Garda?

idontlikealdi · 10/04/2024 13:37

Croatia?

frenchfancy81 · 10/04/2024 13:37

Menorca

CyclesPerfecta · 10/04/2024 13:39

Croatia or Montenegro?

RunnerDown · 10/04/2024 13:41

Pollensa in Majorca. Not Puerto Pollensa - which has a beach but is a bit touristy. Old town Pollensa is a smaller Spanish town - about 5 miles from the coast. Lots of villas and lovely restaurants in walking distance . You could explore Majorca which has many lovely areas outwith the tourist centres.

I’ve looked at Crete but wondered about it being just as scorchio as the Ionian islands 🤔
Balearics and Canaries are a good shout - any particular suggestions?

Thanks for replying.

I’ve never been to Majorca or Tenerife!

We stayed in Cambrills Agustus hotel right on the beach and out from the main town so quiet - if driving you can see site see, and there’s a water park not far.

Maybe do a two stay break and move to another location after a week?

Or look further north - towards Amsterdam?

EmmaStone · 10/04/2024 13:54

Italy? Will still be hot, but shouldn't be Greece hot, also anywhere else in Europe? I loved Munich last summer, it's a great city, and would be a good base to explore the Black Forest, castles etc. Or Austria is stunning? Slovenia is also on my list...

EmmaStone · 10/04/2024 13:55

But Majorca is beautiful, so if you've not been, worth a try (I was less enamoured with Tenerife).

Also perhaps the Alps?

I’ve never been to Majorca or Tenerife!

We went to Majorca last year in mid August and it was 35-40 very hot 🥵 I'd recommend Tenerife or Grand Canaria

YouveGotAFastCar · 10/04/2024 13:56

Lake Garda was 36 degrees in late July both times I've been. Lovely, but hot.

tobee · 10/04/2024 14:00

In my experience Crete is way hotter than the Ionian islands

Vicliz24 · 10/04/2024 14:06

Yes Crete is hotter than the Ionian

mitogoshi · 10/04/2024 14:15

Tenerife hits your requirements, not as hot as the mainland in summer typically.

Plenty for young adults to do, plenty for older ones too or just chill out. We stayed in a hotel with 6 onsite restaurants to choose from or plenty others to walk to in Costa adeje

Pollensa was a bit of a disappointment to me when I went some years ago . It felt a bit bland and British - but then I like the "real" fiery Spain - as in Andalusia particularly. Palma was lovely though.

PinkPondQueen · 10/04/2024 14:37

I was honestly blown away by the North of Tenerife which I wasn't expecting to. We had an amazing villa with a private pool in Santa Ursula just outside Puerto de la Cruz - this area is chock-a-block with them if you check on Airbnb. As it's quite hilly most of them have amazing views of the coastline and the volcano Mount Teide. Northern Tenerife is very green with beautiful mountains and is far nicer than the South which is flat, dry and arid by comparison. Best of all was the food - there are some very impressive restaurants in the area!

Another2Cats · 10/04/2024 16:27

"not France - love it but been a lot 😊."

How about just over the border - either northern Italy or Switzerland?

Anywhere along the coast from Monaco to Genoa and Pisa you will find lots of villas with pools and you're never too far from the sea and there are a mix of sandy and pebbly beaches. Also, the food is generally very good indeed.

The other suggestion would be Switzerland. Somewhere around either Lake Zurich or Lake Geneva. Plenty of water sports to do and sightseeing etc, also many great places to eat and lots of cultural things to do in places like Zurich and Geneva.

Also, Swiss trains are really great if you fancy a day out somewhere and don't want to drive. One example is the Jungfraubahn, this goes from Interlaken (half way between Geneva and Zurich) which goes to the top of the Jungfraujoch which still has snow in July.

Favouritefruits · 10/04/2024 16:54

Lanzarote? Will be that sort of temperature but with a lovely breeze!

AvonCallingBarksdale · 10/04/2024 18:20

Some great suggestions here, thank you. I can begin my search again with renewed vigour!
