I was about to click PAY NOW on flights and accommodation for a luxury European holiday for the four of us to go next week. DH walked in, smiled and casually said "DDs passport expires in June..." I took my finger off the pay now button. Sigh.

So does anyone have any ideas for what we can do instead? I'm guessing even Ireland is out - the three month rule will apply there too won't it?

Two mid teens, all want to relax, ideally round a pool in the sunshine, no idea what to look for now. House with a hot tub somewhere? Spa resort that's teen friendly?

Yesssss true the US is still open to us! I did have a quick look but last minute flights are insane.

Personally I'd book the alton towers hotel for a couple of nights, give the kids a couple of days in the park, and maybe one at the water park- think its indoor? Then maybe look for somewhere nearby for more chilled days- national trust walks, museums or similar before you come home.

I live 10 minutes from Alton Towers.... I'm looking out of the window at driving rain, again. I really wouldn't recommend "lovely walks" unless you have good quality waterproofs.

South Africa only requires 30 days on your passport beyond your original intended return date.

TheTripThatWasnt · 29/03/2024 15:15

Channel Islands... plenty of nice hotels there. Not warm, but still nice views etc, and feels a bit like France!

Clearinguptheclutter · 29/03/2024 15:15

I learnt this morning that Mexico is good as long as your passport is valid

Clearinguptheclutter · 29/03/2024 15:15

Oh and Jersey is lovely IF the weather forecast is good

It is amazing that the US and South Africa are open to us but the whole of Europe isn't. They are really cross with us aren't they.

DD has just done a week of D of E in Scotland so 'lovely walks' are 100% out.

Cornwall? yes overflowing sewage into the sea (SWW one of the worst offenders in the country) terrible weather, heavily congested roads and rip off prices.

Carbis Bay Hotel in St Ives overlooks the beach. You can get suites with private hot tubs, there is also an infinity pool. Even in bad weather the views are amazing and it really feels like being abroad.

Or how about a cottage with a hot tub and sea views?

Carbis Bay looks amazing!! There is one beach lodge left and it has a hot tub.... but very sadly it stretches our generous budget just a little too far.

Maybe a tour of the uk. Maybe a few nights here and there. Depends where you are in the uk. Could take in a mixture of town and country with a few days by the beach too.

TheaBrandt · 29/03/2024 15:25

The “lovely walks” at National trust properties poster clearly doesn’t have teens 😀

Of course the whole of Europe is open to us but they are not responsible for your lack of planning and organisation.

We voted to leave, the 10 year passport validity rule was waived for us as members, so tough shit.

I ve just come back from sunny Spain and had a lovely time, very welcoming and far cheaper to shop than here.

Chewton Glen in the New forest

The treehouse which looks fabulous and would have fitted us all in is sadly booked out. Not surprising! thanks for the tip though.

Of course it's open to us as in UK citizens. I just meant not to us, our family next week. And yes, totally accept this is our fault!

Florida?

EasterFox · 29/03/2024 15:32

@TheaBrandt my teens enjoy a NT property including a walk as long as it isn’t pouring down. We all like different things including teens.

ItsReallyOnlyMe · 29/03/2024 15:37

How about the Merton Hotel in St Helier, Jersey ? Or perhaps St Brelades Beach hotel ?

Their sister hotel is The Ganet, much cheaper and you still have use of the spa, and can use the Carbis Bay restaurants. You just don't get those amazing views!

Northern Ireland is ridiculously beautiful and no passport needed.

Have a look at houses at St Ives, or the Pedn Olva Hotel.
