Pool temperature in Majorca in late May

Hi, we are looking at going to Majorca in May half term with our two DC. Will an outdoor (unheated) pool be warm enough for small children (age 2 and 5) in the last week of May? Any advice welcome! Thank you!

Have you considered looking up this information online or calling the hotel?

That’s exactly what she’s asking here. For opinions.

Not sure OP. I’m guessing you’ve got a villa booked. I’ve booked one for a couple of weeks later in the north. From experience, for the time I’m going (last 2 weeks of June) I’m expecting it to be a bit chilly, but manageable as long as the weather is hot.

If you’ve got very small children it will probably be too cold in May. That said there was a huge heatwave last year, it all depends on the weather x

EarthlyNightshade · 03/03/2024 09:24

Unless May has been very warm, I'd think maybe too cold. You could take shortie wetsuits just in case.
It would be fine for dip in and out, but not for hours of play.

Manyandyoucanwalkover · 03/03/2024 09:25

Definitely too cold.

Thecatisboss · 03/03/2024 09:28

We've been to Majorca in May before with an unheated pool and it was fairly chilly! I chose not to swim in it as too cold for me. DD swam in it though.

ShebaQueen · 03/03/2024 10:07

Agree with others, even if weather is hot, pools will still be too cold for anything more than a quick dip

2024theplot · 03/03/2024 10:16

We went in May and the pools were very cold. The weather was mild but definitely not warm enough for swimming in an unheated pool.

reluctantbrit · 03/03/2024 10:24

We went to a villa in May when DD was 2 and 4. In both cases it was warmer swimming in the sea than the pool.

We had a short wetsuit for DD the second time and with that it worked but DH was cold now playing with her in the pool.

We all preferred spending time at the beach.

Travelbuddy · 03/03/2024 10:58

ime pools are always colder than the sea as they don’t tend to heat a lot of them in the summer months ( or at all) There’s some lovely beaches with calm waters in Majorca which will be much more pleasant to swim in. Get some of those beach shoes to protect feet from anything sharp like sea urchins and the like.

NewYearTimeToChange · 03/03/2024 11:20

We’ve been to Menorca at the end of May and it was definitely getting warmer but the pool was still freezing. I would think they’d be ok in a shallow kids pool though especially if they have shorty wetsuits on.

bea19 · 03/03/2024 12:57

Thanks so much everyone, we’ve not been abroad with the kids yet so we weren’t really sure what temperature we would need it to be for them to be in the pool lots so hearing your experiences is really helpful! We were hoping our eldest would learn to swim on this holiday so it sounds like Majorca in May might not be the right choice.

We went to Ibiza in Summer half term a few years ago. The unheated pool was freezing - too cold for my DC. However other DC didn't seem bothered and spent hours in there!!

reluctantbrit · 03/03/2024 13:12

@bea19 DD did learn to swim in the cold pool thanks to the wetsuit.

Feralgremlin · 03/03/2024 13:17

We did Majorca mid May a few years back, with a “heated” pool and it was still far too cold to use! We had a miserable holiday as it was still classed as out of season so there wasn’t as much open, the weather was not our friend, and the evenings were bloody freezing!

Tulipvase · 03/03/2024 13:25

We went to Menorca in August and the hotel pool was freezing then! Could just be that hotel of course.

idontlikealdi · 03/03/2024 13:25

Cold.

For May I would either look for an indoor heated pool or go further afield if you want to teach the kids to swim. Even outdoor heated pools can be a bit chilly/not heated thoroughly out of season

BananaSplitsss · 03/03/2024 13:30

We go to Majorca at the end of May every year and apart from last year ( it was unseasonably chilly and rainy) the pools have been a wee bit chilly but still very nice and we were able to swim in comfort.

UpsideLeft · 03/03/2024 13:57

Sadly it's normally too cold

June is usually fine though

Tickletuesday · 03/03/2024 14:05

It’s quite cool. Kids don’t seem
to mind but need a warm cover up when they get out

ColleenDonaghy · 03/03/2024 14:07

We were in Menorca the last week in May last year, kids were 4 and 2. It was unseasonably cool and damp but they were fine in the pools. Cool getting in and I certainly wouldn't have been swimming if it was an adults only holiday Grin but they had a great time. You know how it is, once you're wet it's grand.

Remember walking around the splash pool in the drizzle with my dress still on, reading about the heatwave at home. 🙄

Aviee · 03/03/2024 19:24

Definitely too cold

rickandmorts · 03/03/2024 20:57

I went to Majorca last May with our 5 month old and the pool was freezing! We were quite unlucky generally with the weather.

I think May can be really a hit and miss with weather. We had fabulous weather one week and rain the next.
