Love Holidays charging extra after Ryan Air change flight

Rainbow978 · 24/02/2024 19:02

Hello everyone, just wondering if anyone can give me some advice
I booked a package holiday through Love Holidays and Ryan Air have changed our flights so we are due to leave a day later and return a day later
we have updated our booking on manage my booking so the hotel date would change and have now received a message stating we have an extra £341 to pay immediately
or no changes will be made for the hotel and we will essentially lose a day there and have no hotel on the last night

this just doesn’t seem right to me has anyone else experienced this? Can I get a refund? We genuinely can’t afford to pay £341 right now and it isn’t even our fault

thanks for reading

I don’t understand

is it a package or not?

if it’s a package why have you had to update anything, it should be dealt with by Love holidays

Rainbow978 · 24/02/2024 19:16

Yes it’s package, it said at the bottom of the email to confirm if we wanted the flights so we did as we didn’t realise it would cost such a massive amount more for the hotel to change too

I just done what the email said in regards to updating the booking

You need to speak to Love Holidays then - what are their T’s & C’s about flight changes?

PickledPurplePickle · 24/02/2024 19:18

Anameisaname · 24/02/2024 19:19

If you booked the entire package through Love Holidays then it's their job to sort out hotels and flights and sort out any changes to flight times

But it sounds like ypu booked the flight separately in which case that is not their problem unfortunately?

Dotdashdottinghell · 24/02/2024 19:20

On the beach pulled this shit with me, changed the day, the airport, and waited about £600 more. I just got a refund and swore never to use them again.

Rainbow978 · 24/02/2024 19:20

I booked it all together last year as a package:( just reading through the flight rights now thank you@PickledPurplePickle

@Dotdashdottinghell i’m going to definitely ask for a refund because I cant afford the extra money at all i’ve booked this a year ago and been saving to take my children on there first big holiday, i’m hoping they’ll refund me really panicking over it:(

My friend had exactly the same plus it was on watchdog the other day. They apparently are not an actual holiday firm. They are an intermediary who just sell on hotels and flights so aren't actually offering a package as they have no power too. They are tricking people into thinking they are booking a package when in actual fact they aren't.

Rainbow978 · 24/02/2024 19:24

@Fullofpudding was it!! I’ve well and truly learnt my lesson with them i’ll go elsewhere next time!

Yep- also had this. Booked a holiday, got a phone call saying that the flights would need to be altered and then told me that would be an extra ONE THOUSAND POUNDS (three people travelling).

Unfortunately for them, when I rang back to ask further questions, the guy I spoke to got confused and called me a different name. He then stupidly apologised and said something along the lines of “oh, sorry, that’s someone else I need further payment from”.

They got told where to go and we cancelled. Only booked with package holiday companies since (Tui etc).

Bunch of fudging crooks.

feelingalittlehorse · 24/02/2024 19:29

As a moot point, I got a full refund.

Rainbow978 · 24/02/2024 19:30

@feelingalittlehorse oh god they do it to so many people I wish I had researched more!!
glad you got a refund i’m hoping thats the case for me tomorrow

@feelingalittlehorse I only use "proper" companies now too. I naively thought on The Beach, Love Holidays etc sold packages, with all their ABTA badges etc. Now I realise they are just a middle man and offer no extra protection. I've bitten twice shy.

feelingalittlehorse · 24/02/2024 19:37

@Rainbow978 honestly, I had absolutely no idea. I also just presumed they were legit. Could not believe how unprofessional they were on the phone.

I know they have a bad rep on Mumsnet, but honestly, I’ve travelled with Tui multiple times now to different destinations, and have always had a wonderful experience. Cannot fault them, so worth maybe looking at what they have to offer.

Chersfrozenface · 24/02/2024 19:38

Neither On The Beach nor Loveholidays are members of ABTA.

More about ABTA and what protection they offer here

mitogoshi · 24/02/2024 19:42

This is why we stick to TUI or ba holidays for packages, never had issues of any significance and they have promptly dealt with any anything minor to my satisfaction

CBStrike · 24/02/2024 19:49

On the Beach did this to me 10 years ago, swore to never book with them again. (I also got a refund). Makes me cross when I see their bloody adverts.

samarrange · 24/02/2024 20:57

If it's any consolation, you might well have been in the same position if you hadn't booked the package and has just chosen a hotel and booked the flight yourself.

That's because if a scheduled airline cancels a flight within two weeks of departure it has no obligation to get you on a nearby (in space or time) flight at their cost. Ryanair can just offer you a full refund and invite you to rebook, and apparently the other flights are more expensive.

Of course, a half-decent tour operator would admit that they have a moral obligation to you, but since their whole business model seems to involve booking Ryanair (and presumably also EasyJet, Wizz Air, etc) flights at retail prices and presumably charging you a markup for that, they are not what I would call a half-decent operator.

(You could maybe check that by looking in the Ryanair app for your dates. Maybe the other flights are only £50 more and the package operators are being CFs, per @feelingalittlehorse's comment above.)

Rainbow978 · 25/02/2024 13:05

Hey everyone just an update, I ended up with a full refund
gutted to have to start all over again rebooking but if anyone has any good holiday recommendations for 2 adults and a 2&3 year old that would be great😂

@Rainbow978 I'm glad you got a refund!
Jet2 are very reasonable for family holidays, they often have free child places, and they are a proper travel company with their own aeroplanes etc.

BonBon2000 · 08/10/2025 06:07

@Rainbow978 Hi. I realise your post is from over a year ago but I’m going through the same thing now so wondering if you, or anyone, can give advice on how you got a full refund?

Booked what I thought was a package holiday to Gran Canaria for 8 people, All Inclusive, with LoveHolidays, to include flights with Ryanair for April 2026. This is part of a bigger group of 20 people celebrating a 60th birthday and costing just under £8000. Ryanair have moved the date forward a day. Went through LoveHolidays who advised to accept new flights and they would look at sorting hotel and shuttle transfers. Came back advising new cost was an extra £1500. As I cannot afford to pay that I asked for a full refund. Was advised to contact Ryanair as this part was nothing to do with LoveHolidays??? They said once I’d contacted Ryanair and started the refund process for flights to let them know and they will start the process for hotel and transfers. As requested by LoveHolidays I started the refund process with Ryanair and then advised LoveHolidays that I had done so so that they could work on the hotel and transfers. Ryanair have now refused a refund as the flights are “non-refundable”. The flights have cost me £3000 which in no way can I afford to lose!!!! Also heard back from LoveHolidays who have told me that, with all the charges being incurred for a refund, I actually owe them an extra £176!!

Can somebody please help/advise me on a way forward - I’m absolutely desperate!!! Both companies seem to be passing the blame back and forth!!

Elbowpatch · 08/10/2025 10:41

You might be better staring a new thread of your own.

The face of it, trading standards ought to be involved if they misrepresenting their holidays as package holidays. If they are, I’m surprised they have got away with it for so long.

Looking at their website, they certainly give the impression of package holidays.

Did you pay them for the flights and accommodation with one all-in payment? If you paid for the flights and accommodation separately, it doesn’t count as a package holidays.

Flights to suit you
With our package holidays, you can fly with all major UK airlines from 28 airports across the UK. This gives you the ultimate flexibility when deciding who to fly with, plus you can take off from and land in your local airport. Flights are tailored to you as well. Starting with your basic flight, you can then add luggage and choose seats

@Elbowpatch Thanks for replying and yes, I think I’ll start a new thread. This is my first time of posting so wasn’t totally sure what/how to start!!

Regarding LoveHolidays, I made one payment for the holiday through their LoveHolidays app, not individual payments to both them and Ryanair for accommodation and flights separately, although they did break this down to show costings for accommodation, flights and transfers separately. That wasn’t shown at the time of booking. The booking went through the usual process of choosing accommodation, then provided with flight options. Once flight chosen I went through the adding luggage plus choosing seats, as well as shuttle transfers, for return journeys and was then presented with a final total of the “holiday”!!

The paragraph you’ve added in headed Flights to Suit You definitely state “with our package holidays” so that’s what I thought I was booking. I just don’t know where to go now. £3000 is a lot of money to lose!!!!

Elbowpatch · 08/10/2025 12:53

As Loveholidays have made a significant change to your package holiday, you are entitled to a full refund from them.
