Benidorm vs Tenerife

Has anyone been to both? What would you recommend for a family? I was looking at the magic Robin Hood in Benidorm but my husband has said he would like to go give Tenerife a try

The robin hood is a trek out of actual benidorm if you want easy access to night life

AddictedToTea · 15/02/2024 20:04

I’m in Tenerife now. For families with small children it’s great. What time of year were you thinking?

LilLauraloo · 15/02/2024 21:34

@21ZIGGY is there regular buses that go into Benidorm? Is there a central hotel you would recommend?

LilLauraloo · 15/02/2024 21:35

@AddictedToTea we had originally planned June or July but thinking Tenerife would be maybe too hot for the kids in summer

It’s 25 degrees now! I agree, I think it would be too hot with small children in the summer.

wonderstuff · 15/02/2024 22:07

In Tenerife now, it’s lovely. Not done Benidorm though. I thought Canaries were similar climate all year?

Tenerife is warm all year round, but it's north of the equator and it's hotter in July than in January. Geographically it's part of Africa. But then these days anywhere in Spain can hit 35° anywhere from June through to September.

21ZIGGY · 16/02/2024 06:54

Benidorm will be just as hot. Ive been going for 10 years and the last 2-3 years its climate has kicked a good few degrees!

If you have young kids and want kids clubs then im not the best to advise you.

You might not want to see all the acts if you have very young kids so might not be important to you to be walkable everywhere.

itsgettingweird · 16/02/2024 06:59

I use to live in Tenerife.

Never understand the "it'll be too hot" - how did you think our kids survived?!

I've looked at Benidorm before for holidays but always chosen other Spanish resorts over it as just couldn't find location or hotel or activities that appealed.

Tenerife had loads of zoos and splash parks and days out.

Also expand your search maybe?

Other places I've loved are Santa Ponsa in Majorca, Torreblanca and Benalmadena in Southern Spain and Tossa de Mar in Northern Spain.

whoscoatsthatjacket2012 · 16/02/2024 09:10

I've done both and found Benidorm just too much. Too many hotels packed together. The streets are heaving and unpleasant to walk with kids. I wouldn't go back there.

LilLauraloo · 16/02/2024 10:29

@itsgettingweird yes but your kids are used to the heat. We live in Scotland and aren’t used to the heat. We done salou last June and the kids struggled when it hit 30c so I thought maybe if we chose tenerife that the winter months would be better for them.

Tenerife is in the Atlantic so doesn't get as hot in summer as Benidorm or anywhere in the med.

shreknjumps · 16/02/2024 13:20

Tenerife should be easier to handle temperature wise than anywhere in Spain.

Regardless, I really do not like Benidorm, especially not for kids. I understand that some people really rate it but it's marmite and I found the place, beaches, streets, everything really, to be a total shithole. No way would I be taking my kids.

Costa Adeje (not Laguna park or the other hotels high up, panoramica heights etc) should fit the bill.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 16/02/2024 13:24

Benidorm will be hotter than Tenerife in June or July time. A lot of Spaniards holiday in the Canaries as they are cooler in the summer than the mainland. Islands get more breeze and the Atlantic is cooler than the Med. They are similar resorts in terms of amenities.

Moier · 16/02/2024 13:32

Benidorm would be much hotter than Tenneriffe at that time of year..
The canaries are tiny islands in the middle of the Atlantic so always have a cool breeze.

QforCucumber · 16/02/2024 13:37

We love Tenerife for a family holiday, usually go April or May though - best hotels have been the Riu Buena Vista and the Bahia Principe Fantasia :)

shreknjumps · 16/02/2024 13:53

The Fantasia is brilliant for proximity to the airport (we stay next door occasionally) and the seafood restaurants a short walk away in Los Abrigos are the best

LilLauraloo · 16/02/2024 16:44

@QforCucumber I looked at the principe fantasia and it looks amazing but is it far away from everything? My husband doesn’t like to sit by the pool too long he would need to get up and wonder around.

LilLauraloo · 16/02/2024 16:45

Thanks everyone, I think we are going to stick with Tenerife

OP posts:
catherinewales · 16/02/2024 17:15

For a family I prefer Tenerife. It has so much more for kids in Tenerife.

LilLauraloo · 16/02/2024 17:25

@catherinewales have you any hotels in particular that you would recommend for families?

OP posts:
QforCucumber · 16/02/2024 17:25

@LilLauraloo there’s a little strip of shops outside and then a short walk along past the golf course is a supermarket and some restaurants, there’s also a regular bus into las Americas from out front and taxis weren’t too expensive either.

CharmedCult · 16/02/2024 17:30

Tenerife is great, if your DH likes a walk you can walk along the front all the way from Los Christianos to La Caletta and it’s breezy so with a few drink and ice cream stops nobody will get overheated.

Stay in Costa Adeje, it’s the nicest part.

HouseofGods · 16/02/2024 20:07

We've been to magic Robin Hood twice and the kids loved it both times, plenty of things to do and a big outdoor playground where they could play at night whilst we sat outside with a drink. It's not central to Benidorm at all but we liked that and used the hotel shuttle bus to go to the beach. We also took taxis to the zoo and waterpark - taxis were very reasonable.

Last year we went to Costa Adeje in Tenerife. The benefit here was that our hotel was more central so we could go for a walk, had different restaurants in walking distance and could walk to the beach. There was a shuttle bus to Siam park but be warned it was mobbed!! You definitely need to go to the first bus stop or you definitely won't get on.

Just asked the 9 and 5 year old for their opinion and Tenerife just pipped it for them.

fleurneige · 16/02/2024 20:09

There is Tenerife.... and Tenerife. Which part? It is quite varied. I'd avoid Los Americas, Adeje and Los Christianos like the plague. But there are nice areas too.
