£2k budget for May half-term family holiday

We havent been abroad for 8yrs, so my children (5yrs and 1yr) have never been abroad.

It's my 40th this May, and our 10yr wedding anniversary, so we are keen to book a holiday to celebrate.

Ideally somewhere warm and sunny, close to beach, with pools/splash pool/slides for kids.

We can fly from either East Mids or Birmingham on 24th or 25th May.

Our very limited budget is £2k (which seems mad for a week but I guess I'm not up to date with prices in the last 8yrs!)

Please can I have help on where to go? I've spent hours looking and now stuck not knowing what to book.

Where would you book?

Eurocamp, you could drive there to keep costs down. Eurocamp great for the kids if you pick one with a decent water park and you could bbq some nights rather than eat out. A caravan with air con comes it at around 250 to may half term and we’ve always had good weather if you go mid France down. Then plenty left for eating out and staying somewhere en route to break the journey up

Snowdropsarecoming · 31/01/2024 20:26

Self catering?

LizzieBet14 · 31/01/2024 20:49

Another vote for Eurocamp - there's loads to choose from.

That’s a very low budget for half term. (Sorry to say) maybe try easyjet or jet2 holidays but wouldn’t expect too much choice. Maybe yiu have to leave a day earlier or later to get cheaper flight deals.

Hobbi · 31/01/2024 21:08

@Tereseta

Isn't that each? Does OP mean £8000?

Sonora25 · 31/01/2024 21:16

The 1 year old is free, I don’t think the budget is 6K but 2K total.

Blythwind · 31/01/2024 21:23

Thank you everyone.

I have looked at a couple of Eurocamps, but got a little overwhelmed with options. Driving would be cheaper, but I want to ensure good weather and its a long way to get far enough south for that.

£2k total budget, but clearly thats not enough :(

Thank you for the link to the Jet2 option

Unfortunately the problem is half term. You could easily find a holiday within your budget the week before or after. I would consider taking 5 year old out for a few days and fly Wed-Wed for example.
could potentially save you £££.

BananaSplitsss · 31/01/2024 21:28

Our flights for May half term were £1500 alone .

Agree with this.

Take the 5yo out of school for a few days.

Does your budget exclude food? Ie. Could you stretch if all inclusive? Any flexibility on the dates?

SadlyACupOfTeaDoesNotSolveEverything · 31/01/2024 21:38

One a few days out with free child place/All inclusive

Alternatively drive to Manchester for a flight? Under budget but self catering.

Sorry Mallorca!

Blythwind · 31/01/2024 21:50

Thank you! I'll take a look at the links.

We can't change the dates as my husband can't change his annual leave.

I honestly had no idea that holidays had got so expensive in the last few years!

Sorry just saw you can’t change your dates so Sunday no good.

AngelicCurls · 31/01/2024 23:07

The weather in mid/france is good at that time. I can recommend St Avit de Loisirs, lovely parc and lovely area

ZenNudist · 31/01/2024 23:56

May is really expensive this year. I think it's because August is too hot / on fire in places like Greece etc.

There's only a week everyone goes. You can't even leave a few days earlier to get a cheaper flight. A few days earlier is even more £££.

Cancel the leave and take your dc out of school maybe?

Sonora25 · 01/02/2024 08:11

Agree with PP. August has become too hot for most of Europe and so families go abroad jn May now (we do). Plus airlines have increased their prices massively since Covid (I have family abroad and the flight are easily double now)
Hotels have also increased their prices.
