Where would you go for a week in August without kids

Next year my children have a 9 night scout camp abroad.

This will be our first (and probably only ever) oppertunity to go away for a week without them (They will be 14 and 12). (until they are adults, obviously)

We still owe ourselves a honey-moon which we've never had.

Where would you go for a week without kids.

We can go pretty much anywhere within reason.

All ideas welcome

What's your budget? What sort of holiday do you like - beach, city, active, culture, relaxing, hotel, self catering, foodie, snorkeling? Clues please.

Forgottenmyphone · 27/01/2024 20:20

Norwegian Fjord cruise

soupmaker · 27/01/2024 20:24

Define "within reason".

I'd not go anywhere that was difficult to get home from quickly. I know your kids are away abroad but I'd be checking what the arrangements are for emergencies.

TrentCrimmOfTheIndependent · 27/01/2024 20:25

Walking in the mountains and lakes and visiting historical towns in Slovenia, Austria or Switzerland.

reluctantbrit · 27/01/2024 21:06

I hate the heat so I would do Scandinavia or Iceland.

@soupmaker friends had this scenario and they had her mum and sister as emergency contacts for the children in case someone needed to be available urgently. It doesn't have to be the parents. They had medical PoA arranged as well.

We had a lovely week in Sandals Antigua. Anywhere with an adult only resort!

onetwothreeee · 27/01/2024 21:32

We like a most things.

We are already doing cruise on Fjords (with the kids) next year.

We like to see beautiful places and eat good food.

My children are going to Switzerland so I don't think we should go there as well.... or maybe we could to another area.

We don't want a hot lieing on a sunbed getting a tan holiday. We would like to see somewhere else, maybe slightly different, perhaps somewhere that we wouldn't take our children.....

Our children are very well traveled around Europe and we have also done many cruises so probably not a cruise either. (as we already have one booked next year)

We want to do New York WITH our children (I think)
I'd also like to do Iceland, but again probably with my children
Also considering Croatia, but again thats on my bucket list with the kids!

Budget .... definitely under £10k, but ideally more like under £5k ish I guess, but even less is fine too.
We don't need luxury. We like beutiful scenary. I wouldnt want it to be cold, but probably not more than 30c either

As well as luxury 5* resorts we have done lots of youth hostels with our children too and everything inbetween, so am open to anything.
We are happy and competant with public transport abroad too......

To an adults only hotel somewhere. A Tui blue would be nice as they are a bit more "premium" so would be honeymoon like

Highly recommend Montenegro. I went without the DC and was it gorgeous and I didn’t especially wish they were there. Stayed just outside Kotor. Stunning scenery, just breathtaking.

EasyJet fly to Tivat which is 15 minutes from there so no long transfers either.

Triptastico · 28/01/2024 08:31

Cape Cod, Nantucket or around that area. It has its own micro climate.

Lovetotravel123 · 28/01/2024 08:41

Scilly Isles. But I imagine it is already booked up at this point.

Jollyoldfruit · 28/01/2024 08:42

The Italian lakes are beautiful, perhaps hot in August.

NisekoWhistler · 28/01/2024 08:44

Costa Rica. Might struggle with budget but it is possible

Ilovemyshed · 28/01/2024 08:57

Bear in mind that the last few years have been very hot in Europe, so I would go north - Scotland, Iceland, Canada.

Brotherlove · 28/01/2024 08:59

I did lake Garda without the kids last August. Fabulous holiday 😄

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 28/01/2024 09:02

Amalfi coast in Italy. Lots to see and not really a kids holiday.

I would also suggest you on the TUI website put in your dates and filter by adult only hotels and see what looks good.

Chemenger · 28/01/2024 09:11

Nova Scotia, do a road trip. Lots to see and do, relaxed, good food including seafood, not hot. That was our first child free trip and it was great. We flew Icelandair with a 2 day stop in Reykjavik as well.

migigo · 28/01/2024 09:12

I'd do an adults only hotel - perhaps Greece, or Spanish islands? Long haul wise it's hurricane season meaning the Caribbean is iffy, not sure about monsoon seasons in Asia? Anyway spend your budget on luxury rather than flights, and means you can get more holiday less travel.

outliers we are looking at - I've been looking at Mozambique (fly via Lisbon) and Zanzibar (TUI actually have these via Dubai) if you want exotic and different. Both easily within budget. But check weather

onemoretine · 28/01/2024 09:15

I'd do anything that was adults only. Just wanted to say my daughter went to Switzerland with the guides last year and had an absolutely amazing time, the pictures look fake it's that beautiful! So I hope your two have a fantastic time also.

ChristmasTreeMagic · 28/01/2024 13:04

2 years ago we had a week in Lucca without dc. It was absolutely fabulous

This year we're thinking Naples & Amalfi Coast again just me & dh

Take a slow road trip along the 500 in Scotland. You’d be hard pressed to find many places more beautiful and there are good hotels/restaurants en route.

Toottooot · 28/01/2024 15:48

Vegas

StephanieSuperpowers · 28/01/2024 15:51

From nowhere lately I've developed a wish to go to Treviso. So that's something to consider?
