early October or half term time?

jackstini · 24/01/2024 11:28

Very much depends on whether the pool is heated!

Weather is warm enough, but a non-heated pool will not be (from experience!) 🥶

TellmethestoryofO · 24/01/2024 11:30

You'll definitely need a heated pool!
We went last year around Oct time, weather was warm but the pool was so cold we couldn't go in.

Aaron95 · 24/01/2024 11:33

Assuming you are on the Med coast the sea will definitely be warm enough. We were there October last year and the sea was about 26°C.

BarrelOfOtters · 24/01/2024 11:39

We went October half term, went in the sea but it was a bit of a shock, the pool (unheated) was unusable.

SwordToFlamethrower · 24/01/2024 11:47

We went to Bodrum the last week of the season in October. It was sunny and warm enough to sunbathe, didn't need any sun cream, went swimming, it was glorious! Would consider it again.

We went mid October, the sea was a lovely temperature for swimming in but the hotel pool was cold. I did have a swim but it wasn't very pleasant and too cold for young kids.

NewYear24 · 24/01/2024 12:46

My friend went to a hotel with a water park in October half term and said her DC turned blue when they tried to swim. They also had to buy sweatshirts for the evening as hadn’t packed any warm clothes.

JaninaDuszejko · 24/01/2024 12:56

My DB, SIL and DNs went to Turkey last year in October and thought it was too hot! They do live in the north of Scotland though so it was hotter than they are used to in a Scottish summer.

Snowdropsareontheirway · 24/01/2024 13:09

We went to Cyprus for a week on 12th Oct last year and the pool was on the chilly side and I wouldn’t have wanted to go any later.

mobogogi · 24/01/2024 13:14

I've rarely found a resort with warm enough water anywhere in the med, the "heated" pool was 26 degrees In Tenerife, far too cold! Check directly with the hotel the temperature they heat to

crosstalk · 24/01/2024 13:14

Isn't this subjective? My Dsis won't swim anywhere unless it's v warm. My DD goes in the north sea in November. If you have an idea what degree F or C you and family can tolerate, you could check av temps online and/or ask hotel?

SparklyOwls · 25/01/2024 17:51

The issue is that school summer holidays is way too hot!!! But the October half term although cheaper to go I don't think will be warm enough and kiddo wants to be in swimming pool and slides all day x

We went Oct 11 for 7 days last year. Pool was a bit cold, but OK once you started moving! Sea was a lot warmer. Average temp was about 30°c. Temperature dropped quite significantly the following week

June2008 · 25/01/2024 21:15

We go every year to either Turkey or Greece and its usually fine to swim. The pools are usually much cooler than the sea but still perfectly usable. My teeneage girls do water sports for much of the week and are very happy in and out of the water.

Hollwithm · 26/01/2024 19:50

Belek/ Lara beach will be warmest part of Turkey. I'd risk it in early Oct.

Ligglepiggle · 26/01/2024 19:51

Egypt is usually still warm at half term. I went oct 2022 and it was 28/29 we were in the water all day

JaninaDuszejko · 27/01/2024 07:35

We were in Spain a couple of years ago in October and it was mid 20s every day and the sea was pleasantly cool. I think you are overthinking it, in October the sea will be warmer than it would be in May because it retains the heat of the summer for a long time. And, FWIW, my kids happily swim in the sea in Scotland even though I think it's perishing. Because they are constantly on the go they don't feel the cold like adults. I much prefer the Med in October because, like you said, the summer is far too hot.

NotDonna · 27/01/2024 21:49

October half term? No the water will be cold. Early October the sea is gorgeous!!

Cushionsandcaramel · 27/01/2024 21:53

I have done, when we lived in Turkey. It was cold and the locals were horrified but we are Scottish and don't mind the cold!

It depends what you are looking for I suppose.

North Africa might be warmer?

Bladwdoda · 27/01/2024 21:55

We went last October over half term with the kids and the sea was easily warm enough to swim in, it was absolutely lush. Could stay in for ages. Swam for literally hours each day in the sea.

The y heated hotel pool was cold, but the kids still swam in it. However there was a limit to how long they managed due to it benign cool.

I don’t think I would want to do a water park day I. I heated pools then. However might want to check opening months on them anyway.

Bladwdoda · 27/01/2024 21:56

Probably depends on your kids though. If they rarely swim it might be tough. If they go int he sea etc over here they’ll be fine.

MrsWimpy · 28/01/2024 08:01

No it's blooming icy. Took wetsuits for the kids and it was still pretty unbearable.

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 05/02/2024 16:43

It's warm enough to swim in the sea usually but swimming pools tend to be really cold by the end of October

Getonnow · 05/02/2024 16:53

We went in October and swam in the sea daily. The days were short and it was starting to feel chilly by 4pm though.
