Legoland Billund and Lego House

I would like to take my family of four - two adults and two children to Legoland in late August 2024.
I'm thinking we'd probably we want a week away to explore a bit of Denmark too. I have started saving but have no idea how much we would need. For anyone who has done a similar holiday, roughly how much did it cost please?

Legoland has 2 hotels. Opposite Legoland there is a large leisure complex called lalandia, this has loads of small cabins which are probably cheaper than the Legoland hotels, have a look online, I often stay in the Knights hotel, not sure of the cost as it's in Danish krone and Dh pays for it. I also loved the Teddy Bear art museum which is next to the Lego house.

We went to Lalandia and legoland in August. We spent €2600 for everything as a family of 3 for a 5 day holiday (.flights, accommodation, legoland season pass, lalandia gold wrist band , hamper for house, all food and drink). Can't recommend it highly enough it was brilliant. Would recommend staying in lalandia ( Centre parks) and dividing your time between there and legoland.

Pretty much identical to our experience. Make sure you check danish school holidays. They go back before us so use the last week or so. If you stay at lalandia there's quite a bit of walking but it makes for a good energetic holiday!

That's great thank you. I find it easier to save if I have a target to aim for.

We were going in 2020 but cancelled because of lockdown. We were staying at Lalandia and had booked a cabin that came with Lego tickets.
There’s a zoo down the road as well I think.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 21/10/2023 23:04

Local kids go back to school on 12th August 2024.
Legoland is always quietest on a Sunday, esp in the afternoon.
Book the restaurant at Lego House - you get to order in Lego and it comes down a conveyor belt in a Lego thermo box.
The buffet at the Castle Hotel includes drinks which is why it's nearly 50 per adult. It's worth it imo.
Legoland is significantly less fun with a hangover from said AI buffet.
The rooms at the Castle hotel are wonderful, as are hotel Legoland but a holiday home at Lalandia will be cheaper and you'll have a bit more space.
There's beautiful trails nearby at Grene Sand and Randbøl. There's a sculpture trail from Lalandia to Billund.
The Billund bakery is nice, as is atami sushi, although they don't have enough staff ATM because there's a shortage of staff in the industry. In Legoland we like the family buffet near the entrance because we can all find something to eat. In Lalandia we like Bones. You can get take away from Bones.
Week 34 is Culture Week in the triangle region, so lots going on in Billund Vejle Vejen Kolding.

How old are DC?

Good to know the school dates, thank you. Did you book everything separately yourself? Who did you fly with?
My DCs are 9 and 12.
Thank you.

Ooooh I can't help you with that - I live 15 minutes away (hence knowing school dates) so not much flying involved! When we go back to the UK we go Ryanair or BA - depends on your nearest airport and timings really. We have season passes for Legoland and went to the castle hotel when it first opened (black friday deal) and again earlier this year for our wedding anniversary.

DC are perfect ages.

Havanananana · 22/10/2023 09:14

Billund is actually a great place for a few days holiday with children. As well as the obvious Legoland and Lego House, there is also Lalandia and the WOW Park.

I have it on good authority (from 2 kids - aged 9 and 7) that WOW Park is the best of these. It is very non-commercial, very rustic and great fun for a day of adventure activities. Take a picnic, wear clothes that can tolerate a bit of dirt, and enjoy something quite unlike anything in the UK.

We tend to stay at the Zleep Hotel next to the airport - it is less expensive than the Lego hotels or Lalandia but perfect for a couple of nights, and the buffet breakfast is huge.

FizzWhiz · 22/10/2023 20:59

@StrictlyAFemaleFemale ha, that makes sense that you know about the school dates!
@Havanananana I've seen WOW Park recommended on here. It looks right up our street, I'd love to go. Thanks for the recommendation. Love a buffet breakfast too 🙂

OP posts:
Parakeetamol · 22/10/2023 21:05

Wow park is great. It's like stepping into your childhood when health and safety didn't exist. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty safe just lots of things that we would now try to over engineer in the UK nowadays.

FizzWhiz · 23/10/2023 09:08

One more question, what is public transport like? Would we be able to get around easily or would we need to hire a car? Thanks.

OP posts:
Havanananana · 23/10/2023 09:25

Billund is really not much bigger than a large village with 4 big attractions and an airport. You could walk from one end to the other in 15 minutes if you needed to, but since you probably want to use public transport, the answer is that within Billund, in the summer there is a bus service that links the airport with the hotels, Legoland, Lego House and Lalandia. WOW Park is about 15 minutes walk outside of Billund - there is a bus route that passes close to the entrance, but otherwise it is a 5 minute taxi ride from Billund.

If you want to travel further afield then a car would be advisable. For all that Billund has an international airport and "Lego", the public transport links are good but limited. Getting by bus to Vejle or Aarhus for train connections elsewhere is easy enough (there is no station at Billund) but if you want to visit elsewhere in Jutland, the journeys are circuitous and time-consuming and would be much shorter, quicker and more convenient by car. Somewhere in the depths of MN is a post I wrote about other attractions in Jutland (Ribe, Silkeborg, Djurs Sommerland, Vejle Økolariet, the West Coast etc.) which I'll try to find later and re-post on this thread.

handmademitlove · 23/10/2023 09:26

Legoland also has cabins / camping pods as well as hotels. Public transport is fine. The May half term is a good time to go - no local school holidays so very little queuing for rides and cheaper flights than the summer.

FizzWhiz · 23/10/2023 20:42

@Havanananana that's so helpful thank you.

@handmademitlove unfortunately May half term isn't an option due to work commitments, but thank you for the suggestion.

Has anyone been at Easter or know when 2024 dates will be released? Would love to go next year but would have to be easter holidays rather than summer.

BoothsChristmasBook · 24/10/2023 14:37

I've just looked at Ryanair from manc next summer and Easter and all flights are sold out!

Unicorn2022 · 24/10/2023 14:54

I've been to Billund a lot and always stay at Lalandia. We fly Stansted to Billund and the flights are quick and cheap. When you get to Billund Airport there is a regular free bus that takes you to Lalandia which is opposite Legoland.

Book directly with Lalandia but register on the website first, add a break to your basket and wait a few days to see if they send you a discount code. You need to book your sheets and towels when you book the accommodation and if you book directly rather than through one of the sites like Booking.com it will save you hours queueing at Reception and then lugging it all to the villa as they will put it in your room and you can head directly there.

Go the last week in August as it's fairly quiet. We don't spend more than a day or two maximum at Legoland as it's not that big. I buy half price tickets by going to Groupon.de and translating the page. You can usually get tickets to other local attractions too nearer the time.

Ooh great tips, thanks @Unicorn2022

@BoothsChristmasBook we managed to book Manchester billund next august last week in case you are still looking?

FizzWhiz · 15/05/2024 21:44

Just reviving my old thread. We have booked our accommodation at Lalandia and flights. We still need to book our activities. How many days do people recommend at Legoland and Lego House? If we wanted more than one day at either place, would you recommend doing it on consecutive days or breaking it up a bit?
Thanks!

Perfectlystill · 15/05/2024 22:04

I would recommend one day each at Legoland and Lego House. LH was the unexpected highlight of our trip!

Corksoles · 15/05/2024 22:09

Lego House is so amazing. One day is just perfect. Eat at their robot restaurant as pp said.

We went to Legoland twice but we took it very easy and went mid week.

If you're going to Lalandia you'll get a day or two out of that too depending on what your kids are into.

HiGunny · 15/05/2024 22:40

We were there a few weeks ago - did 2 days Legoland, 1 day Lego House ( make sure you do Mini chef!) and 1 day water park. We were staying in the Legoland hotel so didn't do any other Lalandia activities. Be prepared for scandalous prices for food and drink - though the pizza takeaway in Lalandia is good, and you can sit in the bar there and eat it.

Smallinthesmoke · 15/05/2024 23:00

One day Lego House. Absolutely brilliant, loved it. We wanted to go back but it was fully booked. Yy to Mini Chef (books out too).
Last year Legoland had codes by the exits so you can buy cheap return tickets if you want.
Everything is very close. You can easily go swimming at Lalandia after a half day at Legoland.
