Or only when they serve food ? Its a 10hour flight. I've never seen a menu with prices on-board in economy.

I flew to Mexico in late 2021 on BA and they ran out of alcohol about halfway through the flight! I've never seen that happen before but the crew said it often happens on the Cancun and Vegas flights. It was quite a rowdy flight to be honest. Have flown many other long haul routes and it's always been fine to go to the galley and get drinks and snacks throughout the flight.

@notimagain Theres “some” alcohol and then there’s lots of alcohol consumed in larger quantities on a 10 hour flight. . BA use older planes on some routes for a reason.

You're going to have to explain your thinking to me on that one.

I know there's a lot that goes into the choice of aircraft on a route, for example fuel consumption has got better over the years so that tends to make older types less profitable on very long sectors.

Within that there's then the whole deal with the cabin configuration used on certain routes which depends on the market, e.g. on some routes there's low demand for First, but high demand for Club, so some of BA's Fleet don't have don't have a First Class and tend to have more Club seats and tend to used on appropriate routes.

However I've never heard of a link between to the choice being down to the amount of alcohol consumed on a route.

That's what the button on your seat is for.
I've never been refused 'another bottle to save your legs' .

Also used to happen sometimes late on in flights into London on the routes up from Aus via the Far East....

Nothing rowdy or excessive involved in that, just down to the flight carrying several hundred people for the best part of 24 hours (short break in Singapore or Bangkok aside).

You can ask for, and receive, as much booze as you want throughout the flight (as long as theres stock).

We fly BA regularly, and there are no restrictions. If it's an overnight flight, you can just head to the galley and ask for whatever you want, they'll usually give you a few mini bottles of wine if that's your poison, or beers etc.

@notimagain Its the routes mentioned and stag weekend routes. The Vegas plane seemed “worn”. Not their smartest. We have flown enough to notice.

Not so sure these days with general cuts they might restrict that to meal service only. Ps you cannot drink duty free booze.

Why answer if you don’t actually know the answer?

coxesorangepippin · 08/10/2023 23:13

You can also go to the back where they have a drinks station and request something

backinthebox · 08/10/2023 23:15

@TizerorFizz the age of the aircraft or amount of alcohol consumed by passengers and route are not related. As another poster says, the biggest reason, among many, is to do with the cabin configuration. I reckon I’ve flown on these aircraft more than you have. 😉

Funnily enough I suspected Vegas was going to crop up.

Vegas was a 747 route back in the day, and yes those hulls got "tired", then it tended to flip flop between the 747 and the newer 777, it depended on the season.

These days however and certainly right now BA use the A350 on the route (FWIW with no First Class) and that is pretty much the newest Long Haul fleet in BA.

.I just checked and the aircraft en-route on tonight's service is 4 years old, which is a baby in Long Haul terms......so "worn" or not ATM that route certainly isn't served by BA using old aircraft.

The amount of booze consumed or perceptions of "party route" aren't a factor in the age of aircraft BA use on a route. There's a tremendous amount more involved.

I’m not going to Vegas again and it was just an entry point to the USA for us. As long as my cabin is what I expect and I get my champagne: I’m happy.

HateTheView · 09/10/2023 00:49

Travelling long haul business class soon with BA. Do they have prosecco? I did short haul BA club 18 months ago and there was no prosecco only 1 champagne and it wasn't very nice at all. Think it was called Nicholas something.

lljkk · 09/10/2023 03:20

Booze is liberally available but you may have to pay on some airlines.

Prescottdanni123 · 09/10/2023 04:35

On long haul flights, hydration is more important than alcohol. They come around with hot drinks/water/juice regularly throughout the flight and you can always ask for more.
