Is Eurocamp nice?

Has anyone done a Eurocamp hol, and was it reasonable? I'm eyeing up the south of France.

We went to Beziers this summer and it was wonderful tbh. Decent caravans, nice site, on the route for public transport into Beziers itself. The onsite facilities were great and it was by the beach. Our kids Al want to go back! There are some good reviews on trip advisor.

Are they good as a base for exploring?
We want to go to Holland next year with our adult dc, so won't necessarily need all the family friendly facilities!
We haven't got a massive budget so they look appealing!

for Holland look at Landal parks. Excellent

My favourites were Les Peneyrals in the Dordogne, Les Ranchisses in the Ardeche, Park Albatros in Tuscany (it's massive though) and Kon Tiki at St Tropez. La Carabasse (Siblu) is great for teenagers.

Park albatross is AMAZING! But to be honest we have never had a single problem with any of the Italy human travel /hu open air camp sites. They are brilliant and clean and perfect for families.

StillWantingADog · 23/08/2023 10:11

OP remember eurocamp are just a company who rent certain portions of campsites from campsite operators who are entirely independent. They don’t own the sites themselves. Some offer holiday clubs especially for their own guests etc and may give you a discount on the ferry but mostly you’re better off booking direct.

Yelloh village campsites in France are great. But we always go for the more expensive cabins with air con etc

catwithflowers · 23/08/2023 15:32

@FrillyGoatFluff €200 for dinner for 2 adults and 2 kids with no alcohol 😨😨😨. That's outrageous!

SaffyWall · 23/08/2023 15:47

Have a look at Huttopia - I was a bit dubious before we got there because it seemed a bit too good to be true, but the whole experience was great.

fruitpastille · 23/08/2023 15:47

If you want quieter Huttopia is great. The villages have cars off site so they are really safe and young kids can be more independent. Lots of middle class Dutch, French and British. None of the accommodation has air con but some have dishwashers! You can pay for beds made on arrival and cleaning when you leave.

We've done three. DC loved it when they were younger. By age 11 they were a bit beyond it and we didn't go back after that. Choose a place with really good indoor and outdoor pools as well as local attractions and nearby restaurants and supermarkets as the on-site ones can be a bit limited.

GoBackToPartyCity · 23/08/2023 15:57

If you’re looking at Holland then I would recommend TerSpegelt. Busy, but not too chaotic. Loads to do for kids, albeit the majority of the entertainment was in Dutch. We used it as a base for exploring and went to Efteling, Toverland and Belgium for days out. A glass of wine in the on-site bar was €3.95!

mrswarthog · 23/08/2023 16:02

We've used many companies over the past 18 years including Eurocamp and Lifestyles. Wasn't that convinced that Eurocamp was worth the money. We've found using the site to book gets you a better deal and treatment.
We're at a Yelloh site in Fréjus at the moment, it's absolutely amazing. Gate staff checked us in, gave us the keys/ bracelets/ info and then we were escorted to our cabin and showed us round. Beds made, free toiletries and cleaning stuff, plus coffee, milk, water and a bottle of wine as a welcome gift. We're staying here:

We stayed at La Sirène in Argelès last year through the camp and had a similar experience, although tbh (&I love La Sirène) not as fancy.
As PP have said, it's great having your own space with the option to join in the kids clubs/ go the pool/ restaurants or just stay in and do croissants for breakfast, BBQ for lunch and either takeaway or something easy for dinner. It's 38° right now so an unheated pool is a joy! AND we have a 'garden' where we're playing Boules/ Archery/ Games and have sunbathing space so the mad dash for a sun lounger is not a 'thing'.

Just looked up this website as thinking of going to Bordeaux next summer. It shows both campsites as closed! Have they not launched next year's bookings yet or something?!?

fruitpastille · 23/08/2023 23:55

It looks like it's just not available yet. We've been to several huttopia sites in the last few years. Can't imagine they would all be closed next August.

boysmuminherts · 24/08/2023 00:00

We have been to a few in the Loire, 1 near Calais then 1 in Dordogne, Saint Avit Loisirs, 1 in South of France La Baume and 1 in Spain near Salou. We've always had a great time.

Most campsites don't seem to open bookings for the following Summer until October/November, IME.

Oh OK. Thanks for that. Thought it might be too early!

Those pp who have used Huttopia before, would you say the prices are comparable to Eurocamp, or are they more expensive?

curaçao · 24/08/2023 05:09

Yelloh and Roan are 2 companies I would recommend for European lodge/ camping holidays

DistantConstellation · 24/08/2023 06:10

Look at Yelloh. I went to one for the first time and it was great, lots of different pools and water play. Didn't even have the speedo rule. Spring for the best accommodation you can, air con is a must...

terraced · 24/08/2023 06:18

We've stayed in a few in France and Switzerland and liked them all. Clean and well managed sites in our experience.

alwaysmovingforwards · 24/08/2023 11:14

Went to a few around Europe when the kids were young.

It's a franchise though, and like hotel chains, each site is as good as the staff and facilities at the time you are there.

But on the whole, I'd give positive feedback.

Runnerduck34 · 24/08/2023 11:23

We loved it when DC were young but havent been for a few years. Eurocamp dont own the campsite - they have accomodation and run kids clubs at other operators sites- so camp sites and facilities do vary so do your research. They arent cheap homidsys especially during school holidays but we found them very relaxing, kids loved the pools( which were heated at the campsites we went to) and all the activities. Sometimes the accomodation was a bit tired for the price you pay but it is variable other times its been good. We had brilliant family holidays at eurocamp, kids loved tbem, so on the whole would recommend. If driving from calais traveling takes out a day either side of your holiday

BeaniesOnToast · 24/08/2023 11:45

Both DH and I did Eurocamp holidays when we were kids and now take our own DC. We love them but they're not everyone's cup of tea. Some sites are better than others, and I think some of the prices they charge for summer holidays are extortionate and you might be better off on a typical package holiday. May half term is the best time if you're restricted to school holidays as weather is decent but prices pretty cheap.

There's a Eurocamp Unofficial Supporters Group on Facebook, lots of recommendations and reviews on there. Eurocamp are just one of many operators, so make sure you also check Roan, Homair, Allcamps, and a lot of the campsites have their own accommodation you can book directly. Size and quality of accommodation varies so check reviews. One of the benefits of Eurocamp though is that they offer a discount on the ferry crossing if you book through them which the other operators don't. You can also use Tesco clubcard points, blue light discount, teachers discount and corporate discounts if your company offers that sort of thing. There's also Landal sites or European Center Parcs you could try.

Orangeinmybluelightcup · 24/08/2023 14:58

Thank you@BeaniesOnToast !@BeaniesOnToast ! Have you been to any in the Languedoc-roussillon area and do you have any recommendations?

BeaniesOnToast · 24/08/2023 19:13

It depends on the ages of your children, what you want in terms of pools and beach access, whether you prefer a lively site or something a bit quieter, close to an airport and public transport or taking your own car. La Sirene and La Chapelle are quite popular lively sites, as is Domaine de la Yole but I've heard mixed reviews about the standard of accommodation. The Eurocamp website has pretty good filters so you can narrow down the options to meet your family's needs. Also check the parc details carefully, they state wether the pools are heated or not and they can be pretty chilly if not!

Don't be put off by the requirement for men and boys to wear tight swim shorts, it's a French law so applies to all French campsites but some enforce it more than others (it's for hygiene purposes, less likely to wear tight swim shorts as normal shorts all day/at the beach/doing sport etc. like some do with board shorts). They don't have to be Tom Daley budgie smugglers, longer style shorts and jammers are allowed and everyone else is wearing them so no one will looks twice at them!

Once you find a site you like, check out the other providers to find the best price vs level of accommodation. I've heard Roan is pretty good value, nice outdoor lounge areas and TVs which Eurocamp don't have, but we've not tried them ourselves yet so can't really comment.

Booking is now open for next summer, but Eurocamp has just merged with Roan and Homair and I think they are having teething issues with the new booking system so not all sites are listed yet but should appear in the coming weeks. Also they now have dynamic pricing so you might see crazy fluctuations in price between one day and the next. They're usually pretty good though if you ring them or use the chat to sort out any issues with pricing or answer any questions. Hope that helps!

LazyDoll · 24/08/2023 20:27

We’ve done Canvas holidays 3 x in France and loved them all. Just back from Soleil Plage in the Dordogne and it was our favourite 🤩

Orangeinmybluelightcup · 24/08/2023 22:15

@BeaniesOnToast thanks for the additional info! All really useful to know.

We have a quandary as ideally we'd have -
Green and natural location : but able to walk into a town to eat and mooch.
Heated pools and slides for kids : but more chill rather than party party.
Beach would be great.
Trips out would be great.

Finding it hard to put all together! The website is driving me nuts as it constantly looses the filters.
