Who's been to Billund (Legoland)?

Hello
so am off next week with two DS aged 10 and 8. Very excited, wanted to go since I was their age, never made it. Trying to work out what to do each day and book tickets so as to save a bit of money and hopefully avoid issues/queueing. Time is tight with not quite three full days

General plan is
Day 0 travel - getting in quite late (c 10pm)
Day 1 Lego House. We may not manage a super early start but it is almost opposite our hotel which should be easy peasy.
Day 2 Legoland - we will be there when the gates open
Day 3 Aquadome at Lalandia plus milling around in Billund a bit (?) and early dinner before heading back to airport, flight at 9.30pm.

Thoughts on the above? Main issue is is Lalandia enough to amuse for at least most of the afternoon? Or should I consider getting a 2 day pass for legoland and spending at least a bit of time there on day 3. Can't get a feel for how big lalandia is but it's bloody expensive so hopefully worth the money (my sons LOVE waterparks so will be happy even if I'm bored). Also not sure if legoland is worthy of more than one full day. Am hopeful that there will not be too bad queues as the Danish kids have gone back to school etc so hopefully we can cover it in one day.

No possibility of adding a fourth day unfortunately but would consider going back if we enjoy it, probably combining with Copenhagen next time

Advice welcome, I'm already exhausted thinking about it.

@Havanananana Ah, okay...I live in Aberdeen so that will explain my suggestion!

Thanks for the suggestions but unfortunately we're flying from Dublin so options are very limited. Priced up connecting flights as well but they're double the cost of our original fare.

I might look into the train but my gut feeling is that it's too much travel for what was meant to be a quick easy break.

In your shoes I’d try and reschedule- in summer there may be more flights?

we went very late august which turned out to be excellent as good weather and minimal queues (Danish kids had gone back to school)

Thanks all, some good ideas there so will look into options.

Telling myself it's not the end of the world if it's a shortened break - will still get in plenty of Lego time, just won't get extra time in Lalandia as planned. Bloody Ryanair though!

@StillWantingADog Planning a trip to Billund ourselves at the moment and came across your thread. Did you go and how was it? Thanks :)

StillWantingADog · 29/02/2024 21:26

@MummyDeux
yeah we had a great time. Full day in each of Lego house, Legoland, the water park at Lalandia.
I’d stay (self catering) in Lalandia if we went again, we were in a hotel in Billund which was fine but restaurant options were very limited and expensive.
late August turned out to be a good time, weather was fab and not overly busy. Think 15m is the longest we queued for something at Legoland.
3 night stay was good, a fourth night and we probably would have squeezed in wow park

Thank you @StillWantingADog forgot to mention we're planning for the same time of year and was looking to stay at The Lodge for 5 days- arrival, 1 day LegoLand, 1 day Lego House, 1 day Givsund Zoo or Wow Park, depart. Hadn't considered Lalandia coz not big on water parks but will check out.

StillWantingADog · 29/02/2024 21:36

@MummyDeux sounds great. Mine love waterparks so that was a must do for us but the other two sound great. Are you hiring a car? Lego/lalandia/billund are all walking distance but wow and the zoo are further away…I recall that the free tourist bus actually stops running in mid August. There are other buses but far less frequent. And Ubers I imagine.

@StillWantingADog No not hiring a car so thanks for the tip! Finding travel is not as cheap as people have said on here. Flights are like £744-790 for all of us (Ryan Air/BA) and hotel is £1300. Excited otherwise though, apprehensive about food cost :-/

@MummyDeux if you aren’t big on waterpark, then don’t bother with the one in Lalandia. However you can still stay there for self catering. The lodges are very nice. DC loved wow park. It’s great if your kids are into big outdoor tree top playground types. It’s better than anything we have been to. Givskund Zoo is great too. I might have mentioned in my earlier post but we went to two different Viking museums and they were both excellent. We spent 7 days there and there are so much to do.

BringOnSummerHolidays · 29/02/2024 23:20

Flight costs have really gone up compared to 2023. We are going to Duinrell in the Netherlands this summer. I priced up flights and found it’s cheaper driving via the Eurotunnel and paying for hotels for stop overs. (I’m not great at driving too many hours a day).

Where are you looking? We have booked again for mid August and paid £850 for a week at Lalandia and £543 for Ryanair flights for four including seat reservations and luggage. Not seeing much of an increase in last year.
