Who's been to Billund (Legoland)?

Hello
so am off next week with two DS aged 10 and 8. Very excited, wanted to go since I was their age, never made it. Trying to work out what to do each day and book tickets so as to save a bit of money and hopefully avoid issues/queueing. Time is tight with not quite three full days

General plan is
Day 0 travel - getting in quite late (c 10pm)
Day 1 Lego House. We may not manage a super early start but it is almost opposite our hotel which should be easy peasy.
Day 2 Legoland - we will be there when the gates open
Day 3 Aquadome at Lalandia plus milling around in Billund a bit (?) and early dinner before heading back to airport, flight at 9.30pm.

Thoughts on the above? Main issue is is Lalandia enough to amuse for at least most of the afternoon? Or should I consider getting a 2 day pass for legoland and spending at least a bit of time there on day 3. Can't get a feel for how big lalandia is but it's bloody expensive so hopefully worth the money (my sons LOVE waterparks so will be happy even if I'm bored). Also not sure if legoland is worthy of more than one full day. Am hopeful that there will not be too bad queues as the Danish kids have gone back to school etc so hopefully we can cover it in one day.

No possibility of adding a fourth day unfortunately but would consider going back if we enjoy it, probably combining with Copenhagen next time

Advice welcome, I'm already exhausted thinking about it.

Ignore my question! After I booked the lodge there was a link to buy the gold wristbands with my order number.

MsAnnFrope · 20/11/2023 08:46

But that’s helpful for me to know @Chunkymonkey123 😁

Great thread!

Can I ask if anyone thinks it’s worth doing Legoland/Legohouse/Lalandia without children or if everything is geared to kids and parents of kids?

I’m a huge Lego fan, and my adult kids really enjoyed a day out at Legoland Windsor in the summer (they hadn’t been since they were 7 and 5) so we’d love to go to Billund but I’d be interested in opinions.

StillWantingADog · 20/11/2023 10:33

@FlatWhiteExtraHot
at lego house there were def a few adult visitors without kids. Legoland less so but I’m sure they do go- but you probably wouldn’t bother in the summer peak!. Without kids you could go term time which makes everything quiet I assume.
Lalandia has a few pretty scary slides suitable for older teenagers and adults only.

@FlatWhiteExtraHot When we go to Lego House with the family, it is as much of an effort to get the adults out at closing time as it is to get the kids out.

It is very easy to get engrossed in the animation studio, or building silly fish for the aquarium, or improving the racing cars or adding ever more to your bit of the interactive city or ... 😀

FlatWhiteExtraHot · 20/11/2023 16:43

Thanks @Havanananana and @StillWantingADog . I will definitely look into it some more.

Hello! I am currently booking to go at Easter. Where do you buy the golden wristbands please? I’m gone through the lodge booking process and can’t see the option.

Once you've booked, the Lalandia team will contact you about wristbands. It's often nearer to the time of your stay

Lego house is great, so would absolutely recommend for an adult fan. We did Legoland with teens, who'd loved Legoland Windsor when small. We quite enjoyed it for nostalgia, and enjoyed the rides. Only took us around half a day to go round it, but could easily have done another round on the rides if we'd wanted to.

Hoping someone can put my mind at rest after making a huge mistake this evening. Have just booked flights to Billund for mid February next year (school holiday here) before realising that legoland is shut! Had tried to book tickets online but the entire year wasn't available for booking so assumed I was just trying too early. Flights are with Ryanair so unlikely to be able to get any money back. We were planning on staying at Lalandia- is it still worth us going if we can't do legoland but can go to Lego house and fill the other 2 days with activities at Lalandia? I'm furious at myself, I normally triple check things before booking anything!!

Havanananana · 01/12/2023 09:02

Don't worry! The reason Legoland is closed is because Denmark in mid-February can be freezing cold, so an outdoor park is the last place you'd want to be.

Lego House will take up a whole day (at least) and Lalandia is great for just chilling and messing around in the pools.

You could venture further afield. There's a regular bus service to Vejle where you could visit the Økolariet Science-centre. You could take another bus from Vejle to Kolding and visit the Koldinghus castle (most of the exhibits are indoors) and perhaps also the Kolding Storcenter shopping mall.

Or take a bus from Billund to Aarhus and visit the AROS, Mosegaard Museum and if the weather is kind also go to the Old Town museum (Den Gamle By).

Slikeborg has AQUA and the Tollund Man in the museum, but although it's close to Billund, it is not easy to reach by public transport. Of course if you rent a car then all of these places are within very easy reach (30-60 mins).

StillWantingADog · 01/12/2023 10:15

Agree legohouse and lalandia will keep you busy. I honestly thought it was open at weekends all year round though, have you checked a weekend day

Don’t panic you’ll be fine. We comfortably filled three full days at Lalandia.

custardlover · 01/12/2023 11:44

Book LEGO House tickets in advance! I was Really kicking myself when I didn't and rocked up on weekend in May at 10am only to find they had already sold out for the weekend... had to tell a 9yo that we weren't going to LEGO house after travelling to Denmark to do so...

ClarkGriswold · 01/12/2023 20:45

Thanks everyone for reassuring me. Turns out (very surprisingly) Ryanair give you 24hrs grace period where they don't charge you to change the dates/times so we have rebooked for Easter weekend. I think the kids would have been gutted to go all that way and not be able to go to Legoland. Will be booking ALL the tickets over the weekend Grin

Bananaspliff · 01/12/2023 20:57

Just check what’s open as generally everything shuts for a week at Easter in Denmark. This is according to my brother who used to live in Denmark and he advised me against it when we looked into going at Easter.

Chunkymonkey123 · 01/12/2023 23:13

We have also booked for Easter so now I’m a bit concerned!!

Chunkymonkey123 · 01/12/2023 23:20

Just checked and legoland is open over Easter apart from Wednesday and Thursdays and Lego house is open every day.

yodaandmedication · 02/12/2023 08:31

Lalandia is great. We stayed in August for 5 nights and loved it. Legoland is also really good. Just the flight times that were a nightmare!

stonkytonk11 · 02/12/2023 11:49

Nothing more to add except to say everything is brilliant - we stayed 4 nights at Lalandia, so much to do and self catering easy as supermarket on site is v good. Lego house excellent and Legoland fun too. Have a great time 🤩

HiGunny · 07/12/2023 17:36

We're due to go to Billund in April, have flights accommodation etc booked but Ryanair have gone and changed our outward flight to two days later 😭 So annoyed as it was a dream trip for DS and now it'll have to be much shorter 😡

Madcats · 07/12/2023 18:51

@HiGunny, have you thought of pricing up outward flights to Copenhagen and then hiring a car/getting the train?

There are far more flights into the Capital (try Easyjet).

Rome to Rio reckons 2.5- 3 hours by car or 3.5 by train.

Odense (on Funen) seems to be about half way. We easily did a day-trip there from Billund a few years ago.

How annoying!

stonkytonk11 · 07/12/2023 19:26

Or any flights in to Esbjerg from where you are ? It's only about 50 minute drive to Billund

AllyBugs · 07/12/2023 19:34

British Airways also fly to Billund, we've had good deals on flights before with them, especially if you do a combined flight and car hire deal.

HiGunny · 07/12/2023 19:35

Thanks for the suggestions but unfortunately we're flying from Dublin so options are very limited. Priced up connecting flights as well but they're double the cost of our original fare.

I might look into the train but my gut feeling is that it's too much travel for what was meant to be a quick easy break.

The only UK flights to Esbjerg are from Aberdeen - mainly ferrying oil-rig and offshore windfarm employees.

Ryanair used to fly to Esbjerg but gave up the route years ago as Billund is so close and is now a key Ryanair hub. Eastern Airways tried re-opening Humberside-Esbjerg earlier in the year, but it closed again as there were too few passengers for it to be viable (it was another route primarily for oil and windfarm workers).
