If you could have a week's holiday in November where would you go? UK or abroad.

I'm away in September (Greece) but dh and I have annual leave in November too. I've got some unexpected cash coming so quite fancy going away when we're off in November. Usually we just go to the lake district in the winter.
Any ideas for a change?

I’d go to Northumberland

Notimeforaname · 12/08/2023 23:01

Canaries

If you choose to go abroad go somewhere you'd be happy if it's wet / chilly. Weather is unpredictable and my nightmare is hoping for unseasonably good weather: Plan for bad and be surprised by good, if you see what I mean. Eg - a European city break with lots of museums/ galleries / shopping could work well. Otherwise something very cosy in England could be equally as good.

I mentioned Madeira to dh. He said it might not be great weather wise? I've always wanted to go there.

The average temperature is about 19 degrees, but it is a rainy month. It would be unusual to rain all day long though, more showers over the day, but you'd be unlucky for it to rain every day.

I'd go to Mexico, have been in November before and it was fabulous.

IncognitoMam · 12/08/2023 23:07

A city break is actually a good idea.

Have you been to Vienna? Loads of culture and cosy cafes if the weather is bad.

cherryassam · 12/08/2023 23:13

Abroad - if I wanted warmth then Andalusia - Seville definitely then if for longer than 3 nights, on to Granada by train for a couple of nights before maybe a couple of nights in Malaga.

If I didn’t mind about warmth then maybe Vienna and Bratislava, again by train in between, or perhaps Iceland to go Northern Lights hunting.

In the UK, I think I’d either do a city break where I know there’s lots of attractions indoors I want to do - Edinburgh comes to mind first. Or go full cosy country cottage somewhere where I could see autumnal glory (or at least have a better chance at it), Gloucestershire, The New Forest, The Lake District, Monmouthshire.

I would go to Furnas in the Azores to a spa hotel with hot spring swimming pools, we went to one in March, indoor and outdoor pools at 37C and beautiful tropical gardens all round the island. Lovely food. Great for walking. Hire car is worth considering to tour island though can do with transfer there and back.

I'm going to Morocco, looks really nice and quite affordable

Marrakesh is wonderful and will be warm.

ElleEmmDee · 12/08/2023 23:15

I love Vienna, but I’ve been in winter and it can be bitterly cold as it’s so dry.

Silkierabbit · 12/08/2023 23:16

Azores can also be combined with Porto or Lisbon so out direct to Azores back via Porto / Lisbon.

BrightBlueFlamingo · 12/08/2023 23:16

Alicante, just love it!

Silkierabbit · 12/08/2023 23:17

Costa Rica is wonderful though a bit tight on a week for wildlife, rainforest etc

Alloveragain3 · 12/08/2023 23:18

Cape Verde all inclusive. Bliss and guaranteed good weather

We did Morocco one November, as it seemed to be the cheapest place to get to with decent weather (we didn't look at beach resorts, don't care for beach holidays).

I wouldn't do a UK holiday in November unless it was a city.

No hadn't thought of there thanks.

Thanks to everyone else too. Lots to mull over.

We did Madeira in November for our honeymoon, it was beautiful and the weather was perfect. I'd go back in a heartbeat

Morocco- does anyone know if it’s safe for single female travelers? I have heard there is a lor of gender based harassment there. I would love to visit as it looks fascinating but the prospect of not being safe on my own puts me off. Thanks

For years, we went to Venice in November every year. The first time we visited it was July and heaving, so we asked the guy in a restaurant we often went to when would be a good time to come.He said November ‘ bassa stagione’ . It was good advice, the crowds had vanished and you could get in anywhere. Sometimes very cold, but atmospheric, mists rising from the lagoon, all the little passages damp and gleaming….

I haven’t been for fifteen years though, so it might be different…..

Lifeinlists · 12/08/2023 23:47

We went to Venice last November. It was fantastic- unbroken sunshine, mild, not too crowded. I was expecting rain and fog!
We went by train all the way via an overnight stay in Switzerland both ways which added to the holiday as the journey from Zurich to Milan was amazing.

Really! We went 5-6 years ago and found it really cloudy! It was June tho

Cotswoldbee · 13/08/2023 00:16

In November I think I would walk the Thames from source to sea or one end of the Cotswolds to the other.
No way could I be tempted out of the UK. 😁
