HELP! Child passport expired and we travel on Saturday!

I feel so stupid but we have realised our 10 year old sons passport expired 11 days ago and we fly to Italy Saturday from Manchester.
we’ve looked at the gov.uk website and it seems to say child passports can’t be renewed in the office and you have to wait up to a week after an appointment to receive it urgently.
I am in Scotland on holiday with the kids but without the passport and could book an appointment only available in Glasgow for Tuesday but would have to chance it being delivered by Friday.
has anyone been in this situation before? What can I do? I feel sick thinking about it (& very silly)

Had you already checked in online before you found out about the expired passport?

there will now be a new passport number for your DC so make sure you can sort that if you already checked them in

We had a passport delivered today, it did not need signing for. However I wonder if it depends on which service you use.

ah, love this happy ending! We had a similar disaster with DS last year (well we had sent it off in time but the passport office delays meant we didn’t get it) and got the passport the day before the holiday. I felt so close to tears that week! I kept imagining his little face when I had to keep him home from the pool holiday he had been sooo excited for.

My kids passports run out in 2024 all aged 11 so it's their first one for 5 years. They are due to expire in March 2024 and I plan to travel with them to Tenerife in October this year. Does anyone know how long you need on the passport to have it accepted? I'm
