Holiday for £3000 for 5

Sickoffamilydrama · 08/07/2023 16:40

Help me I'm stuck!
We are a family of 5. The children are 8, 14 & 16 all like swimming and beaches. The oldest like a bit of culture and a wander around the other two are just happy in the water all day.

Any ideas on where we could go for £3000 in Europe. I'm happy to drive and driven all over the world was wondering about a holiday camp somewhere and driving there just stuck on where. Should say we have extra in the budget for food.

Or do we travel around the UK visiting Castles and Beaches.

We have holiday for the first two weeks of August

We've looked at Croatia and Lake Gardia plus South of France.

Any thoughts or recommendations appreciated

We did a euro camp in south of France which everyone loved. Big pool, walk to the beach etc etc

OneFrenchEgg · 08/07/2023 16:42

But we are paying £4000 for a week for four in north Italy and that's cheap.

Thanks this is the problem which is why I've wondered about doing a bit of a tour of the UK although food will be more expensive.

Or we wait until October Half term and save more but then we are looking at a flight so more expensive to get something warmer in October.

What about a self catering Apt in Morzine french alps you get a pass which covers access to the fab pool complex, ski lifts for mountain biking or walking and several lakes around to swim. And there’s a big ice skating rink in doors. We really enjoyed it. It’s 1.5hrs drive from Geneva.

Summer76swimmer · 08/07/2023 16:59

There’s several Morzine apts for a week £900 on booking com. If your driving tag a few days either side enroute in your budget.

oreo2020 · 08/07/2023 17:01

Eurocamp is your best bet.

hettiethehare · 08/07/2023 17:03

Huttopia! Depending on location you can be near a beach or a lake and they have a pool. The 5-6 person cabins come in around £1800 for 10 days (we are doing 2 centres) and then with petrol, Eurotunnel, tolls and food it'll come in around £3k if we are careful.

cocksstrideintheevening · 08/07/2023 17:05

3k including food /
Activities / travel / hire car if you need it?

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 08/07/2023 17:07

Have you looked at the Arena campsites on Croatia? The Pula ones is great. Sea all around, loads of fishes so you can spend ages snorkeling. Walk to supermarket and a bus in to the town from the entrance for lots of roman ruins, castle and the tunnels under the city for the ones who want culture. Bus service in general excellent so can go further afield.

Sickoffamilydrama · 08/07/2023 17:14

Thank you everyone just looking at some of the suggestions @OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea that does sound like something the kids will love.

Yes to adding on either side so I was thinking of 8- 10 days (may have to be less depending on the costs) with a few days either side for travel.

Budget doesn't include Ferry I have £200 saved for that. Plus £500 for food.

Your best bet might be flights plus villa/air b n b etc due to your teens' ages.

When searching for a holiday via Jet2/EasyJet/Tui your two eldest dc are classed as adults and are charged as thus.

I found holidays became ridiculously expensive once dc turned 12/13 and had to pay adult prices for them. Hiring a villa/air b n b/ camping alleviates this problem.

Thanks, I've looked and we can't quite do it budget wise unless we go with the places they should be paying you to stay at.

Yes teens have become expensive what always is frustrating is finding somewhere with enough rooms everywhere tries to split us up if we stay in hotels. Next year I'm sure the older two would be fine with that but both still like to have us nearby at night.

Is there any flexibility on when you go in August? The last 10 days of August are usually much cheaper as some countries have gone back to school by then.

Sickoffamilydrama · 08/07/2023 18:13

Sadly not @FraterculaArctica DH 2nd Job is a Wedding/Events band so is booked up every weekend until October half-term 🙄

Have you tried Jet2 ? I was sceptical but they were really good and efficient when we used them. App was brilliant, staff were great, and not at all the kind of drunk Brits abroad that I'd snobbily ascribed to them from their name/ads.

We liked Paphos. You probably need a car. Someone recommended a car hire place that was like an animal name that we used.

OneFrenchEgg · 08/07/2023 18:27

Try fiddling with the app ?

Sandaya is a very good campsite operator in France - better accommodation than Eurocamp or Canvas I think.

2 adults plus 13yr old here. I’ve got flights to Croatia for £400 and an Airbnb for £350 just outside Split, Croatia. Add on airport car parking, Cattery for pet and a hire car in Croatia and we should come in just under £1000, We are going in October hols (Scotland) for a week, apartment has pool and only 5 mins from beach. Been to Croatia before and it’s a beautiful place.Always organise our own holidays and never with travel agent.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 08/07/2023 18:32

I also agree with huttopia suggestions, lovely sites.

Guess where we went last summer not that resort though. Yes I'd always recommend car hire in Cyprus as it's a fairly small island so you can see a lot more.

Oldest Child and I drove into the mountains one day which was lovely.

Some of my family where based there for two tours in the RAF in the 90s so know Cyprus well it's a lovely Island.

West coast of france is a good bet. Will be around £1000 for a week this year for a 3 bedroom mobile home near the beach in the vendee.

Overnight ferry from Portsmouth is a bit of an adventure for youngsters, tolls, eating out still puts you in budget
