Sofa beds in hotels

AlmostThere2023 · 08/07/2023 13:51

We’re looking for a hotel abroad for our next holiday, will be myself DH, DD almost 12 and DS 10. In previous years the double sofa bed provided in most family rooms would do but now they’re getting too old and obviously need their space. Can anyone recommend a good hotel that provides everyone with a bed rather than a sofa to share. Thanks!

Book two rooms or look for hotels with dedicated family rooms with the bed configuration that suits. The world is a big place, you haven’t said where you’re going, so no one could possibly recommend you a hotel.

cherryassam · 08/07/2023 14:03

Look for hotels with apartments / family suites, if you’ve got an idea of where you want to go then there may be more concrete recommendations.

BestServedChilled · 08/07/2023 14:04

Shop around on booking.com just put in 1 room and 4 people. It is pretty good.

It’s not as simple as just booking a family room, most family rooms have a double sofa bed, but thanks for the suggestion. The reason I didn’t specify area was because I’m open to all suggestions. Two rooms would be great but not if they’re not next door to each other. I haven’t yet I’m my search come across a hotel that guarantees inter connecting rooms, which given kids ages I’d rather.

best thing to do is call the hotels. All hotels I've worked in have had interconnecting rooms that are perfect for this scenario. They tend to usually be one double room and one twin room.

I’ve literally spent hours of my life doing this. 1 room, 4 people generally equal us a double bed & double sofa. Hence why I asked for hotel recommendations. Hoping that other families could mention hotels they’d visited with better bed situations. Open to recommendations from anywhere people may have been.

Most hotels have rollaway beds. As long as the floor plan of the room is big enough then you can call and request one.

Littlefish · 08/07/2023 17:41

Have a look for a local Travel Counsellor. This is exactly the sort of searching they will do for you.

Very hard to tell this from a website though. On our recent summer holiday, our ‘family’ room had a double and two singles literally squashed together right up against the patio door with next to no floor space left. Definitely was not suitable for 4 beds.

When my kids got to this age (many moons ago) we only went in apartments or apart hotels. The problem you have with the tour operators is that they automatically give you a one bedroomed apartment for 4 people and whilst it technically can sleep you all it’s not ideal. To find out the ones that have proper two bedroomed apartments you either have to go thru a one bedroomed booking and see if it gives you chance to upgrade to a 2 bed. If you do a search for 6 people first this will highlight which accommodation has two bedroomed units (ie 4 in beds and 2 on sofa bed). A lot of the time it doesn’t give you the option and if it does it’s very expensive.
We found the best way was to book flights and accommodation separately as there was far more choice in the bigger units, you are not just restricted to the ones that tui, jet2 etc have contracts with

Torturedsoul · 08/07/2023 17:46

I know Marriot hotels tend to have two queen beds as standard. Certainly when I travelled as a solo traveler for work I always had two beds in my room which I thought was madness and queried it at the front desk and they said it was standard and I did indeed have the correct room key :D

Hotels I've stayed in where all dc had a proper bed:

Voyage Belek, Turkey - stayed in Laguna Duplex Villa.

Las Dalias, Tenerife - we had an interconnecting room and kept the door open. It was an Iberostar and I think they have interconnecting rooms in most of their hotels. So could be worthwhile looking at that hotel chain.

Martinhal Sagres, Portugal - we stayed in a garden house.

I think the suggestion of two rooms means one adult and one child in each room, rather than leaving the kids alone in a separate room, OP.

Thank you for the tip, I’ll do a search for 6 people to get a better idea first. Will look in to booking separately also. 🙂

Look under Property Policies on booking .com - it’ll usually tell you the policy on extra beds.

That looks like a helpful blog

OP, I believe that Hilton has a check box for interconnecting rooms that actually guarantees it. I was looking for this the other day, and I looked at lots of sites so I am not 100% certain but I think it was them.

SheilaFentiman · 08/07/2023 18:28

I have also been in Hilton suites that had two chair beds rather than one double sofa bed, so a bit nicer at those ages

mynameiscalypso · 08/07/2023 18:31

We booked a villa room when we went to Corfu in May. It had two bedrooms off a small central living room and worked very well for us. It was the Grecotel Daphnila Bay but there were similar arrangements at some of time other AI hotels we looked at in Greece.

patsy8005 · 08/07/2023 19:18

We stayed at the blue lagoon resort in Kos last summer had a family room which actually two separate bedrooms.

I have not managed to easily find hotels with interconnecting rooms at all. After a lot of searching, I found an apartment hotel in Berlin for a city break. We mostly stay on places out of cities, more like cottages in a holiday camp or theme parks. They are sold to families and the websites talk about number of bedrooms. But I book them direct and not via booking.com.

You will have more luck with Airbnb but I prefer more ‘serviced’ places.

BringOnSummerHolidays · 09/07/2023 18:07

I mean there are lots of 2 bedroom places on Airbnb but I much prefer places with a check in counter, help desk, breakfast. So I share your pain.
